Anybody who thinks Matt is too impatient should watch the discussion he had with Ray Comfort a few days ago. It was 2 hours or Ray provoking Matt, lying about Matt, accusing Matt of nonsense, even taking credit for Matt's success, taking credit for the show's success, wild diatribes about how he gets more views than Matt, and dishonestly refusing to debate the topic and Matt endured it with superhuman patience. When it's just Matt, he can endure anything, he just won't let sometime waste the time of his crew and co-host.
Thank you. You put into words what I think every time I see a complaint about how he cuts people off and doesn't let them talk. I think that a lot of people forget that the show is only so long, so if he let someone ramble for the entire show, he wouldn't get to as many callers. I respect Matt a whole hell of a lot for the fact that he won't let people waste the time of the crew (who is all volunteer).
I mean it doesnt have to be one or the other.. he is capable of being impatient one place and patient in another.. I think the general criticism of Matt is valid but I don't think it is always the case and sometimes his no nonsense attitude is useful in getting ot the point.
The most frustrating thing about Steve (among a LOT of things) was him ignoring Matt repeatedly saying “just give the $1,000 to the homeless.” You could tell Steve wasn’t listening at all.

In the Ten Commandments the first commandment was Thou shalt not have any other Gods before me. So if the god of the bible really didnt think there were any other gods then why have the first commandment?
I saw that as well. If you read the Bible it’s obvious they never disbelieved in other gods only that their god was better. In genesis 1 man and woman were made in “our” image. There are so many instances of this in the Bible and how it evolved over time to there is only one god. My whole view is that since I find so many errors, contradictions, in just the first chapter of the Bible, why would I even read the rest of it? If the whole premise is flawed in the first chapter why continue to read it?

In the projection paradigm we have reality, and in this case we have physics looking at it from one direction and theology looking at it from a different direction but there is still one reality and so even though they see different things, what they see can not ultimately be in conflict. I don't remember ever seeing a bible in any school I attended. I always thought that is what church is for. I did Sunday school but it did not make me change my mind about being an Atheist;
As a mormon we had to walk across the street from our high school during our lunch period to eat lunch and study mormon scriptures.... this was an upgrade from waking up at 5 to go to a church every morning 🌄 to study there ..... ay mormons are brutal with their made up scriptures 🤣

This is not due to any great debate over the bible being true or false. It sits in the 200s because that is the Dewey section for comparative religion, modern and ancient religions, spirituality, religion in everyday life, sacraments, etc. this is not a fiction section

I’m glad Justin remembers Cory because I feel like I remind people who he is every time he calls in and I always get the same response... “Oh it’s that guy?! I remember that guy!” Cory is the one who called in to ask Matt what would make him believe in god, and Matt asked “which god?” Corey said it doesn’t matter and Matt said it does matter, and Cory said “who’s the one asking the question?” After calmly explaining to him why it matters Matt started to say “I don’t know, but...” Until Cory interrupted to shout “then how can you say you don’t believe in a god then?!” Matt explained again and gave him a second chance which lasted all of 2 seconds before he interrupted yelling the same thing again. Matt told him he’s obnoxious, he tried to say something smart, Matt hung up. It’s that same little prick.
The callers call in every week with the same god damn weak arguments and weak evidence. Nothing new. Matt has to constantly respond to the same bullshit over and over again.
Bibles in the school made me an atheist. They were for a Bible as Literature topic (taught in a secular way). I opened it, read the introduction giving the accepted theory of how the Bible was written and the four authors edited together. I'm Jewish, and was a believer but not very religious, but when I read that the scales fell from my eyes and I never believed again. That was over 50 years ago. So, teach the Bible honestly in school, and you'll expose a lot of kids to information their churches will never let them see.

The thing is, that though the Torah was supposedly written by Moses, and is so important, it never gets mentioned in Judges or Chronicles (unlike the ark.) It got "discovered" much later. No doubt it was in the basement of the Temple hidden behind some deli menus and copies of Variety. I can just see an assistant priest saying "Hey, if that is 600 years old, how come the ink is still wet?" And the high priest saying, "shut up, schmuck, and find me a lamb to barbecue." Caller 1 misquotes Mao, who said "Political power grows out of the barrel of a gun," not "rights." But even if he quoted correctly, I'm not sure how this is controversial. Government has a monopoly of violence, which it can use to protect rights or restrict rights. As Matt says, rights are privileges that people extend to one another.
I wonder if Michael is comfortable that forcing theist beliefs at the "barrel of a gun" is okay? Has he ever thought how Christians have forced people at the "barrel of the gun" to convert to Christianity? This is something I never understand about Americans. You understand the statistics are that the most likely person to be killed with that gun is a child in your family. Second most likely to be killed is another family member and a far far distant last is an aggressive stranger. USA is the only country where dying from accidental gunshot is the second highest cause of deaths in children after car accidents. Every other industrialized country has gun control laws and no other industrialized country has these levels of child deaths. Also the amount of child suicides are extremely high in the USA and much much lower in countries with good gun control laws. So why is your “enjoyment” of owning a gun more valuable to you than the lives of children? There are people who should have a gun (ranchers etc.) but there’s is no practical purpose for most people to own a gun, especially a hand gun. It’s similar to a woman who wants to drink while pregnant. Does she have a right to have that drink, knowing it may injure a child? Do you have a right to own a toy that may kill a child? It’s unfathomable to me how anyone could choose to ignore all the facts and statistics and own a gun, knowing that there is a huge risk that someone you know will be hurt and if that happens you can’t fix it or take it back.

That unto itself is a separate discussion, but just to give you one very small segment from a big problem. I being a Hispanic, I'm was aware of the impossible situation a young person in Mexico, who doesn't know how to write or read, out of desperation tries to find a better life here in the US. Here... he is taken advantaged & abused, even by his fellow Mexicans & relatives that are better off. Out of sheer desperation because the kid needs to eat, tries rob the house of a little old lady (in the Mexican neighborhood course). That little old lady had a gun, puts a bullet into him & that kid is left paralyzed from the waist down. Eventually he's deported back to Mexico where he will be in the street begging for meager coins because his own family doesn't want anything to do with him. And that is one very small segment of a very big problem. There are so many reasons, that it leaves your head spinning. Some people love guns because they feel they have the "power". Other people for example me... own some hunting rifles for recreational purposes; but most are black powder guns (flint & caps lock, & one match lock) I own. I have not gone campaign due to my bad knees & have sold some off. But still keeping the black-power ones in my collection, & an old SKS I rebuilt from parts. And some buy guns to collect them, & most others, have guns for security purposes. But why kids get shot? Mostly because due to the neglect of bad parenting. They think things like that will never happen to them, only to bad people, than shit happens & one of their kids plays with their gun & shoot themselves. I do support gun control, & do support that before you own a gun, you should take classed to learn how to handle them & that you shouldn't point it to someone, even if its unloaded. But for some reason, especially those with conservative persuasions (not all of course but the majority do), equate any form of gun control to confiscations. Don't ask why, they sometimes can't even explain it themselves, it's a knee-jerk reaction. Do we have the right? Yes we do. That's what I meant by "enjoyment"; we do have that right. Like the "enjoyment" of freedom of expression. Just a figure of speech. There are many toys (not only guns) that can result in the serious injury of a child that can be life changing & even death. The US does doe have guns in second place as cause of children death. But the US isn't in the top 20 when it comes to suicides
Matt: On your assessment of "objective morality:' You state that some people are too lazy to think of objective morality so their attributing it all to God is easier so they don't have to think about it. I read Erickson and Paget and especially Fowler on developmental levels of humans and find that people who have not developed past childish levels can not comprehend different levels so stop at a black and white view of life. (God and "objective morality" is comparable with this level of thinking.) People who develop past early stages of human development are forced to ask bigger questions and then have to think about other methods of morality. It is like asking children about god, Santa or the Tooth Fairy. They out grow those concepts as they develop thinking. Before they reach those stages, then cannot think at deeper levels. Being a believer retards a person's ability to ask and answer those deeper questions. It is not lazy. It is the inability to think on those levels.

Perhaps they do (As the Founding father's understood they had to have a revolution to guarantee separation from Britain and secure their rights), or perhaps they come from a mutually agreed set of rules (U S Constitution). Either way, rights that come from the 3 big monotheisms removes people's will in ruling themselves and granting rights. Furthermore, the God of the big three monotheisms is a moral monster and not something I want to guarantee my rights.
Without the Master Story of the Gospel you (and all atheist) have zero hope (FACT). What you have is an extrapolation of hope as you borrow from a Biblical worldview that tomorrow will be better than yesterday or yesteryear. Hope is essential to human life and without it you stay distracted by the bleak realties ahead. A story that ends badly (the atheist life) renders everything else meaningless. Who cares about a good job today when death will erode everything that came before it. You mock the only real hope in the Universe. In hell there might be a faint light where the Kingdom lay and you'll wish you could move towards it in the darkness but can not. It will be unreachable and you'll wish that you had a telescope to see it more clearly. This is the tragic fate of all those who have hated Gods Son, hated Gods Word. You slapped the hand of God when he offered you forgiveness, freedom and a way out through his Son?...how shall God respond?

If you need a nudge in the right direction to connect free will to what we know about science; the series "genius' by stephen hawking is a great stepping stone. My opinion, our brains follow the laws of physics therefore the reactions you have versus your environment could not have been anything other then the reactions you had. Even if you "chose" them. : you chose them because of the laws of physics governing the electricity and chemistry in your brain, which are governed by your environment, genes and the laws of physics. The uncertainty principle and maybe chaos theory are the only things that can debunk this view imo... Free will is no more substantial then our notion of good and evil, positive or negative, spin up or spin down. dot dot dot
