Today you will have a total Atheist Experience as the one and only Shelley Segal treats us to the best start to the show ever! Jim Barrows and JMike walk us through what does and does not matter when providing evidence just before learning there are holograms in our brains! Shelley provides a beautiful concert to conclude our show.
Nick in WI believes that he has found god in the same way he would find a specific car in a car lot. If you were to search for god, what reason would you have to think god exists before you start searching? Why would we care about the characteristics if this god has not been demonstrated to exist? How do you explain a Christian foundation’s findings that say prayer has no more effects than a placebo? What does “spiritually alive” mean? Considering the history of the Cananites, how did they get from polytheism to theism? Why blame god for something that is part of you and wanting to know as many true things as possible?
Mac in CA has the argument from perennialism to prove god and is described as god has been contacting humans through history. The sound trailed off into underwater territory.
Sura in India says there is a strong force that is driving all religions. All religions attempt to explain things we have no control over is a more reasonable explanation than adding a supernatural god to the equation. Why postulate a god for natural phenomena? How do the percentages of people that believe something have any bearing on the truth?
Oliver in FL wants to know what science or LGBTQ has to do with atheism and atheists use faith for not having evidence for god. By your definition of faith, what am I believing in as an atheist that I can’t substantiate or confirm? What is the entailment for when we continue to ask for evidence? Why would Einstein saying anything get us to believe in this useless god of Spinoza?
Angus in NE, Jesus Mythicist asks what the hosts think of Yahwey or Yesua never saying anything. The same thing can be said of The Hobbit or other stories. What does what someone says prove anything about their existence?
Dave in India asks the hosts if they would consent to the point that there is a hologram in their brains. How would that point to god? Personal experience does nothing to move the needle here. How does your brain making you see stuff get us to god? Under what circumstances should we assume the supernatural is real? Why would you believe our lives as atheists are meaningless?

Yeah that used to be a big motivating factor behind why I used to constantly seek justification for my own silly religious beliefs when I was a Christian. Took me awhile after deconverting to realize there may be absolutely nothing after physical death and consciousness may not continue as we don’t really have major reasons to think it will. I still don’t take a firm stance either way on it BUT I will say I am way more at peace w not knowing than I was at the start. The only reason I don’t rule out the possibility or take a firm stance on after death stuff is because if there’s one thing that has been consistent in my experience, it’s that truth is often stranger than fiction and there have been far too many times where I was 100% on something only to find out I was wrong so I’ve learned that we really don’t “know” anything 100%. I’m not saying that’s a good reason to believe it..I’m saying that’s my reason for not ruling it out or taking a gnostic stance on it like some atheists do and this isn’t because I’m “hoping” either- it’s strictly from past experience and being proven wrong w stuff I was certain on before so I just can’t take a gnostic position. I actually don’t believe there is anything after but that’s not same as saying “I believe there is nothing after death”The most arrogant thing to do is to say “X is impossible because our understanding of physics would make it so”.. Anyway, to your original comment- absolutely correct. Fear drives folks to make sh!t up. I think it’s dishonest to do that especially when you know why yer doing it.

It's a dumb song because it's not Christians who tell people how to live their lives it's atheist. Every atheistic humanist government without exception has been communist and they force atheism on their citizens. They lock their citizens away in many cases, like in North Korea and don't allow them to have contact with the outside world.. Look at Christian civilization AKA modern Western Civilization places like America they infest our government institutions to force, people to acknowledge in speech their gender Faith which is a violation of our constitutional right to free speech and practice religion Stay out of government institutions it's not a place where atheists belong forcing their faith-based beliefs on other people.

Shelley! Awesome and legendary song for the show. That song w your great voice etc immediately triggers a feeling in me mixed w some nostalgia and positive emotions.. that’s what good music is supposed to do- make people feel a certain way whether positive or negative. Because he finished all he ever needed to do in Jesus Christ, and spread his Word of truth throughout the world. This, so that mankind might not be justified by the works that he does or the miracles he witnesses, but by believing in the truth and being set free by it. You would want to destroy that free promise by making salvation dependent on what you do, see, or understand. You want this so that that you can testify about yourselves and bring yourself towards gods and glory. You would want to find glory yourself so much that you reject that it is God himself who already glorifies us through what he has done.

Shelley's final segment was so so valuable. First of all, as potent as her lyrics are, her melodies and guitar work are great in themselves. I especially appreciate her incorporating the hebrew into her lyrics. Finally, she has given us some remarkable first-person insight to just how fking horrible some theology gets "Thank you God for not making me a woman." Holy ship!!! Literally! Wrapping with your theme "Saved" was brilliant. Thank you Shelley. Please do this again. This episode was exponentially value-added.

When I called the Atheist Experience I assumed the hosts being fellow “atheists” would agree with my argument and validate it. The text as it stands has the main character saying nothing only supported by hearsay. That is a fact. I actually enjoyed Nick's call. He struggles, but he's not dismissive. He's not hard set in his ways, but he's trying to understand it, and you can hear that he is trying to understand new information versus what he already has in his mind. He's genuinely trying to learn to separate religious teaching and religion. Whether he stays a theist or goes through deconversion, he sounds like a genuinely good guy that just wants to learn.

Interesting. I got rude talking over from the first minute, followed by a lot of manipulation of the conversation including interruptions and evasions. He knows exactly what he’s doing, admitting he has done it before and taken notes- then gotten advice from those more experienced and wrote a script for this call. Rather than trying to understand anything, it seems he is trying to make ‘smart’ apologetics while posing as someone learning (so go easy on me). *that was the first 1-6 minutes…all similar to what he has done on previous calls.

Jim looked to the horizon ...the Captain on his boat🌅 No designated driver...and Jack was in his Coke🍾 Before he left the harbor...prepared to set his sails⛵ He hit the buoy starboard...and went over the rails💥 In a three sixty rotation...to a backwards somersault🤸‍♂️ He didn't blame Creation...no, that was his fault😩 He screamed Almighty Father!...please help me, this is Jim🙏 I've always loved your waters...but I've never learned to swim!🤽‍♂️ And just before he gave up...making it for land 😔 A pod of dolphins came up...as if by God's command🐬🐬🐬🐬🐬 They helped to lift Jim's head up...and took him by the hand👋 Then pulled him towards the shorline...and beached Jim on the sand🐳 Now Jim is a believer...and now he would repent😇 He said Oh thank you Jesus...I'll never drink again🤞 Amen❤

i watched it for the 2nd time ever a few months ago. first time i saw it i was a kid and didn't understand more than half of the jokes. i watched it now, and i found it hilarious. stupid, but hilarious. (then again, i'm also a big leslie neilson fan)
