I doubt the Hawks could get the Spurs to trade the back the picks and the swap for Trae Young. The Spurs have just too many options and no huge pressing need to be contenders next year. In the 2026 off season Trae can just walk. So next year if the Hawks are still bad and the Spurs still need a point guard then a trade that might make sense may materialize. But at that point the 2025 Hawks pick will be off the table for sure.
Along with the defense issues, another reason why we traded for Murray was because needed another playmaker/ball handler. Another go to guy. Miami really shut us down badly in the prior playoffs and all they had to do was send double teams to Trae and it was really effective.
Whoever decided to build a team around Trae Young in the first place is fucking idiot. If your highest usage shooter is the least efficient player on your team. You fucked up really bad.
Do the Hawks view it as addition by subtraction with trading Murray? Otherwise I don't get it at all when he's on a pretty reasonable contract and they seem to only care about getting a protected first or two.
@@homerthompson416 My thoughts exactly. Unless they can get their own picks back from the Spurs, it seems they'd need another win now player in exchange because a few picks late in the draft are even worse.
Teams had been doubling Dame Dolla for 11 years ish… When CJ came, he still got doubled. Swapping your best player isn’t going to change anything. New scenery, new Coach (not Pop) and Atlanta isn’t exactly the best option. Feel free to Trade Trae for Kyrie.
Atlanta basketball is so fucking stupid. Year after year, 20 attempts per game, worst efficiency on his own damn team, and worse than useless on defense. Atlanta front office, and the fans just fucking love him. I legitimately don't understand what the fuck is wrong with you guys.
@@user-yn4xn8cs5vif y’all don’t win nothing anytime soon you think he won’t ask to be traded? YOUR CRAZY. Trae young is gonna get traded or he will leave on his own some point in the near future
Idk why hawks consider trae so untouchable, he won’t be able to win a chip as the number 1 option and hawks won’t be able to get anyone better especially if they blow it up
Trae to SA makes sense for both teams as you mentioned some great points. SA gets their much needed pg for Wemby and Hawks get to reset and have some actual capital to do so versus staying around as some mid tier team playing for the play in and eventually losing Trae for nothing in free agency.
I say keep Murray trade Young. Young has been a Locker room problem since year 1, he has ended multiple coaches and forced the team to move multiple players trying to keep him happy and he has also forced the Hawks to sell off their future draft picks to bring in a player or players to help hide his defensive struggles. Unfortunately his defense problems are tied to his effort or lack thereof because he puts little to no effort in guarding his guy and toake it worse when he is the help defender its a sad because that means no help is coming. Young to OKC for Giddy, Dort, and picks. It could be a good deal for both and just imagine Young and SGA in the back court with all the young guns on that team oh boy that could be fun.
youngs defense has improved drastically this year he actually has a better rating than murray. I do like murry a lot but its clearly not working with him and trae. and i dont see this team getting rid of trae i just feel like hes got a much higher ceiling and id like to build around him
Now u know we can’t stay mad at our man Mike for making a reasonable mistake. Ur too real and too consistent for us to hold it against u. Keep doing ya thang Mike 💪🏼
I understood the Spurs logic when trading Murray. I agree, Mike. The hawks went all in on potential opposed to patiently waiting for their time. It’s a tricky situation when dealing with a young star. They don’t want Tre to leave, but they may have shit themselves in the foot with the Murray trade
Trying to build around Trae Young is a mistake. You can't shoot 20 attempts per game and be the least efficient player on your own team. That is incredibly stupid basketball.
I lowkey think he is he shows up in the playoffs and is very clutch I am not a hawks fan so idk for sure but i think hes good enough ti build around if u build around him defensively
Hindsight is 2020, but don't forget at the time the move was HAILED by both fans and analysts alike. Most including myself saw the Hawks as the clear winners of the offseason with this move and in theory it makes perfect sense. Sometimes though, even the best team in theory just doesn't work out. I can't hate on the GM though, because 9/10 GM's if they were the manager of the Hawks would have pulled the trigger on this deal. This was also before the new tax aprons, so first round picks were flying around a lot more (Ex: the Rudy Gobert trade), and the Hawks seemed to be primed for years of contention so the picks wouldn't mean anything anyways. Always easy to look back and critique though.
@@TTJJCCThe reception regarding this trade then was overwhelmingly positive. Hawks needed backcourt talent to deload Trae and a wing defender to hid Trae’s defense. Of course, it did not pan out how it was envisioned to be but only a few predicted this to happen then.
As a Spurs fan I'd prefer Dejounte back at a significantly lower salary over Tre. Absolutely abysmal cap space move if the Spurs take Tre on a trade. Hypothetical conjecture driven content almost never comes to fruition. It's fun to hear the speculation nonetheless.
Trae will have more open space too shoot ehich benefits and if they try to double him which most teams did to shut down the hawks he can just throw the ball towards the rim and wemby has easy buckets every time. Trae shoots a lot, but that's also because that is the best strat om his team. Noone can telll if he becomes more of a passer like harden in philly with embid. Besides that trae already has high assist numbers.
@@jonaske8049 Every single player on Atlanta, who started more than one game this year, has better shooting efficiency that Trae this season. Trae shooting 20 attempts per game is not a good strategy. I understand the best shooters don't have the best efficiency because of volume. But if your highest volume shooter has the worst efficiency, then you have a problem.
The hawks need a wing who can put up 24-25 a game somebody like Brandon Ingram, Zach Lavine, Paolo Banchero guys who can get their own shots when needed
Good on you for owning up to the DJM contract miscalculation, much respect. I dont think DJM is working out for the Hawks but I hope we don't trade him for peanuts.
Coming from a Hawks fan we need a non-ball dominant or able-to-play-off-ball player with good defense or an elite big man and surround Trae with lockdown defenders and shooters so I think we need to 1. have great defenders and shooters and great depth or 2, have great defenders and another non-ball-dominant star or big man. Also, I think Trae can be a number 1 MAYBE if he's surrounded by his INSACT needs yes but that's unrealistic most of the time, we can be a championship-level team with him as our number 1, but I think Trae needs a number 2 that's a great defender and at his level OR you can have Trae as a option 2 and an ELITE, ELITE number 2! Like if trae gets better at defense and becomes like decent or close to it i know that's asking a lot lol I think he might just be like the best PG in the NBA tbh or at least competing with Luka and Curry for it! His size is the only thing holding him back and the only way to be a clear number 1 being that small is getting better at defense!
Trae Young is the least efficient player on the Hawks to start more than 1 game this year. This has been a running trend his entire fucking career, and you people keep saying he needs help. Every fucking player around Trae is shooting higher percentages than he is, and it's been that way every fucking year he has been shooting 20 attempts a game. Stop trying to build a team around him. You can't let your least efficient player shoot 20 fucking attempts a game. That's fucking stupid, and I am so disappointed Snyder hasn't fixed this clown ass shit.
Gonna be hard when the Spurs have their pick in the Cooper Flagg draft, the rights to swap in the Cameron Boozer draft, and then their pick again in the 27 draft too while the Hawks also have a lot of committed salary even if they can trade Murray and Capella by the deadline. So free agency isn't going to land them much until at least the new TV/streaming deal for 25-26. Only way they could get their picks back from the Spurs to do a proper tank would be moving Trae to either them or maybe in some three way deal so a lot is going to ride of them finding a star in this draft if they're going to keep Young.
It's not just his defense. Dude has been taking 20+ shots per game, and has consistently been one of the least efficient players on his own team. I genuinely do not understand why Atlanta even decided to build a team around him, or why Atlanta fans love him so much. You either have to be stupid, or just like losing.
@@mitchtherevolution thank you bro that’s exactly what’s going on. And idk how they expect trae to defend the best guard to win games. Not gonna happen
The Hawks owe Travis Schlenk an apology. This Front office is so incompetent, every move since Schlenk left has been a loss. I dont trust this front office to make the right move at all with Nick Ressler influencing inexperienced gms like Landry Fields and Kyle Korver. Nick gotta go first before they can make the right move.
The Atlanta Hawks have a fickle fan base if the team isn’t competitive, they lose support immediately if there is a fire sale the only way to get people in Phillips Arena would be going back to $20 tickets Literally in 2016 I bought a home ticket package for 20 home games for $30
This doesn't surprise me at all. Hawks and Falcons are irrelevant teams for the A unless they're winning, same reason the Thrashers left in 2011. Only team that really gets passionate support through and through from residents are the Braves.
It’s apparent none of you two guys go to games first off it’s not even Philip arena any more hasn’t been for over six years smh . And you would be suprised how packed that arena is every game I’m there I would know
@@DJ2HypeAllVinylHouseHeadDJ at this point people are just going to the games to get out the damn house. Go ahead and throw your money away. I still have heartache after 28 to 3 I have not been able to watch an entire game of NFL ever since
I like it, but Pop has never built his team like that. Trae is a scoring pg, whereas Tony Parker was more of a true pg who could score (not to the same extent as Trae), and distribute, and they also had many core pieces (Duncan, Robinson, Ginobli, Kawhi etc) Either way Pop needs to make a move and get some real players around Wemby.
If you look at each championship The Spurs won, you can see how Pop was able to adapt to his players and change the play style. The 99 championship team looks nothing like the 2014 one
@@ziplockbaggies8707 that’s cool but each one of those teams had more than one HOF’er on it. This team as is, the only person who has a shot at the hall is Wemby.
Hard pass. He's an undersized, shot chucking, no defense playing, uncoachable turnover machine. Trae wasn't voted most overrated player in the league by his own peers for nothing. Also, he's locker room cancer.
Trae Young is the embodiment of losing basketball. 20 attempts per game, and has been the least efficient player on his own team every single fucking year of his career. He is the most overrated player I have ever seen, and I watched Allen Iverson win an MVP doing the same fucking thing. Bad defense, trash efficiency, coupled with a basketball IQ that is worse than a fucking Golden Retriever. Dude shouldn't even be a starter.
Blow it up. I’m over the Trae saga, it was fun sometimes but, it never seemed like success was more than a roll of the dice when it happened. Nothing against Trae, I think we were stupid giving Luka away but we would have wasted his time. Our office needs to go too
I would highly suggest teams signs players to 1 year deals and if they perform badly then you have no problem moving on. If they perform well then you sign him to another year. These teams have historically made moves emotionally and get stuck with a guy who they can’t get rid of after a few years
That’s pick up basketball. There’s no continuity. After every player has a good year he’s gonna want to go to another team for more money or more playing time. That’s what the NCAA is getting to now with the transfer portal.
Overly complicated and incredibly unlikely trade idea incoming: The Hawks send Dejounte Murray to the Rockets, the Rockets send Jalen Green to the Magic and Oladipo to the Hawks, the Magic send Gary Harris to the Hawks, last the Thunder swoop in and trade Tre Mann to the Hawks for Saddiq Bay. Some picks may need to change hands but Trae get's a decent 3 point shooter in Gary Harris and a secondary ball handler in Tre Mann. Harris and Oladipo are expiring contracts and Tre Mann is still a pretty cheap contract. The Magic get scoring, the Rockets get more consistent scoring and the Thunder get a bigger wing for certain match ups.
@Gman333g At least on a player basis it's not great but Tre Mann, 2 expiring contracts and some mix of picks aren't bad for someone they're already trying to send out.
@Gman333g If they're protecting 2 guys on their roster, I wouldn't be shocked if they're looking for any leverage they can get, be it in picks or cap space for free agency. I get you don't want to get pennies on the dollar for Murray but there's not too much out there to get back. If Pascal went for 3 mid 1st, I don't see Murray getting more than maybe 1 decent one and salary matching.
Tre with the Spurs would be fun to watch. But it would also mean the lifeblood of the Spurs - otherwise known as defense - would be placed on the back burner. Instead of stopping the other team, the Spurs would have to score more than the other team. A subtle but also significant difference.
There’s about a 0.00000001% chance of this happening but if the spurs make a move for trae young the league is in HUGEEEE trouble trae and wemby is Giannas and Dame on crack
Okay I’m sorry but the Hawks definitely were not “on a path to greatness” before the Dejounte Murray trade. That was such a ludicrous statement. The whole reason they made the trade in the first place was because they were buried deep in the EC at like 9 or 10. They had been stuck there for an entire season and a half at that point. Get this path to greatness ish outta here
Nah…I agree not greatness, but also not 9-10. They were 6, 7, made it to the conference finals but were exposed a couple times when Miami showed that you could double Trae at take the ball out of his hands because no one else on the team could step up. So DJ a guy that could score and run the point looked to be a good move but DJ hasn’t lived up to that.
@@atlnla4112 No I’m talking about the season after they made it to the ECF. They had a really bad year and were in the play-in I think. And then they traded for Murray either later that same season, or sometime before the start of the next season. They may not have been 9 or 10 when they traded for Murray, but they were definitely 7 or 8
@@JuanSantos-dt6iu It would be funny if the Hawks sent Trae to the Spurs for the picks they sent out for Murray, making the trade Murray for Trae and Wemby from the Spurs perspective since they couldn't have gotten Wemby with Murray there.
Playing for a small market team from the start; undoubtedly there’s more love for the whole rotation vs just one guy. If you’re the best and you aren’t an ass, you turn into a God.
It makes no sense. The spurs need to do this thing right. Get a couple more high end picks and then go for it. I say 2 more years in the lotto then you make your push. Not now
It’s about time the Hawks gave Trae a different look at Center. In terms of a skilled big, having another guy that opposing defenses have to double along with worrying about Young will be well for this team. Especially with the wings they have. Ayton might be someone to look at if they’re moving off of Capela and Murray. Maybe a 3 team deal Murray to Spurs, Ayton to Hawks and Capela plus other still to Portland.
They can do a complete tear down. And they could do it than better than any team that tried it. They could get a boat load of picks. They just need to find the right team to trade with.
There is absolutely no reason for the Hawks to blow up their team. One smart trade, acquisition of a big man who fits, and they would look like a completely different group. We already patiently went through a massive rebuild. They have nice pieces in place. Just retool and rejuvenate. For the sake of the fans, please stop starting over!!
Hawks need a go to guy with size who can get buckets even under pressure like Derozan or Ant Man. Trea needs to facilitate and take efficient shot like Nash did. With some new guys committed to defense then they can win.
I could see the Sacramento Kings getting in on Dejonte Murray. They have picks, they have Kevin Huerter, a couple of guys on the bench and a need to upgrade the defense. So I could see the Kings going this route. I know the Kings will say hell no to any deal where Keegan Murray is involved. I know Atlanta fans would want Keegan. Probably so the front office. But it won't happen. They want to keep Murray long term. But, they do have picks, they do have a couple of possibilities on players who could help the Hawks as role players. Especially with Siakam and his camp trying to keep teams from trading for him so he can get his max contract in the summer, I think Murray is the most likely target for the Kings.
I’ve been a Hawks fan, since ‘98 (with Steve Smith, Mookie, and Mutombo). Seen it all… including the dark years, with Lon Kruger, and Mike Woodson. Watched the 60 win team get swept in embarrassing fashion by LeBron and the Cavs in the ECF. Watched D12 and the Magic sweep them, in the second round, a season before that. Enjoyed watching Zaza having a stare down with Kevin Garnett. Was disappointed with how Josh Smith flamed out, and was shipped off to Detroit. I’m tired of being stuck in “NBA Purgatory “. it’s well past time to blow this team up. Seriously.
You haven’t been a Hawks fan long enough. It’s not that easy to get a consistent all-star caliber player. I’m tired of them “blowing up” teams and not getting and putting compatible pieces around good player. Blowing it up means 5 or 6 years of hoping draft picks pan out. Ask Detroit, Portland, Cleveland, Houston, how that’s been going.
No, Trae is the embodiment of losing basketball and every front office should be acutely aware of that. 20 shot attempts per game, least efficient player on his own team, zero defense, abysmal basketball IQ, overpaid contract. And he thinks he's good, because Atlanta decided to hype up a star to sell tickets instead of actually building around players that contribute to winning basketball. He's all hype, just to sell tickets in a non competitive franchise.
They're kind of between a rock and a hard place because they'll bottom out if they trade Trae, and the Spurs will be the biggest beneficiary by having the Hawks 25 and 27 picks and the right to swap in 26, all unprotected. The owner's son really screwed the Hawks by overruling the GM and giving the Spurs unprotected picks. Might as well just trade him to the Spurs for their picks plus the swap back.
@@mitchtherevolutionTrae young is the last person i think of when i hear abysmal basketball IQ. Sure hes a bad defender and not very efficient, but he reads and commands the floor extremely well. He is an elite point guard in that respect.
@@Nomad7222 I'm mostly referring to his bad shot selection when criticizing his basketball IQ. His shot is solid, but his shot selection makes him one of the least efficient players on his own team. And if you're putting up 20 shot attempts per day, while everyone around you is shooting more efficiently. Then that is low IQ basketball. Like he usually can get the ball down the court, and do what he wants to without completely fucking everything up, but the problem is that he mostly wants to shoot. And him taking a bunch of contested three's, and awkward shots off the dribble is a statistically bad offense possession. The game plan is low IQ basketball, and Atlanta's entire offensive scheme is low IQ basketball.
Imagine lol….Trae Young, Jamal Murray/???, and Victor Wembenyama vs Kyrie Irving, Luka Doncic and Holmgren/Banchero/???, the battle for Texas we didn’t know we needed…I’m not from Texas…but that would sound like Texas basketball competition is back and better.
How can you make sure that the Hawks will be able to get a player with a star potential after trading Trae? What they need is to trade for a good big man and convince Trae that they can build a good team around him not a reset.
I hope Wemby doesn’t get traded. He (imo) belongs in the spurs. His idol was in the spurs, Popovich is a great coach for him. The worst part about the spurs is that sochan never passes to wemby.
The Hawks squeezing out their now former GM because he didn't want to pull the trigger on the DJ trade only to reverse course a year later tells me what I need to know about the new regime...😭😭
It's easy to easy to say rebuild, but you need your own picks so that you can tank for a high pick. That's why they're talking to the Spurs. Otherwise, you can only trade Dejounte for another win now player.
Gregg Popovich doesnt want to win now, he is happy seeing Wemby develop and lose a lot of games so The Spurs can get more high value draft pick to build around Victor.
I think the hawks could really contend with Zach LaVine i think he’s more explosive on offense nd has more length ion know how that trade goes down but if we trade Murray we still trynna win now.
The stars aligned in 2021, the hawks overachieved while the knicks and philly underachieved and then suddenly everyone thinks that this team is enough to compete for championships?? Naw, trae is carrying this mediocre team and I feel bad for him.
It’s insulting that they thought Siakam and vanvleet were the second best player on the raptors championship team lol. They were role players that hit shots. You can’t take away what they did but let’s be real. Both vanvleet and Siakam only could do what they did because Kyle Lowry, Kawai Leonard Marc gasol, green and Obaka. They got to fly because of where the defensive effort was put. Kyle Lowry was arguably the best player in that series. People will laugh at that but Kyle did all the little things on top of scoring that won them that chip. Unless you watched we the north for 6 straight years you wouldn’t get it. Kawai was undoubtably the best player but Kyle Lowry was a close second as far as impacting winning.
TRAE IS NOT THE PROBLEM!!! just 3 seasons ago we took out number 1 seed sixers and almost defeated the 2021 nba champions during the playoffs DUE TO TRAE!! he’s the heart of the team i get that ppl think he’s fallen off but that’s imo due to bringing in dejounte. still tho trae is lighting it up tho idc averaging 27 pts and 11 assists. that first half performance against the spurs brought tears of joy to my eyes and trae still got that dawg in him. the only area i cant defend trae on is his defense but get the right pieces around him and we’re fine. not to mention he’s had 3 different coaches since being drafted🤦🏽♂️
It really wasn't three first round picks to the Spurs for Murray, as the Charlotte pick they sent out looked pretty unlikely to convey even then much less now where it's lottery protected this year and next and then becomes two seconds. Unless LaMelo can stay healthy and Brandon Miller blows up next season I don't expect to ever see that Charlotte first. Also Atlanta does have a 26 first; namely, the lesser pick between theirs' and the Spurs' as the Spurs have a swap on the 26 pick.
The Spurs will more than likely stick to their original game plan and build through the draft with a primary focus on European talent for a lot of reasons
Is anyone else sick and tired of the stupid constant trades and trade rumors of the NBA? This shit happens no where else in the world except in the USA.
This team is so disappointing. traded cam reddish for nothing traded john collins for nothing traded kevin huerter for nothing Then they go all in and trade every remaining asset for dejounte, who was NEVER worth that much! Only reason why they paid so much was cuz of that stupid Gobert trade that destroyed the trade market for the whole season.
Size wise, Trae and Wemby could be the next Jerry West and Wilt Chamberlain. Skill wise it would be Parker/Duncan replicas👀👀👀👀👀 I sure hope that’s right if things go thru lmao
Well I don't know about any 'path to greatness' before the Murray trade, but they were a team that looked like it was just missing one or at most two pieces to be a top-shelf contender in the East. Grabbing Murray though to play alongside Trae seemed... unlikely. Kind of like the Kyrie trade to Dallas. Dallas grabbed one of the greatest ball-handling scoring guards of this century... to play alongside one of the greatest ball handling scoring guards of this century... one ball fellas so not too surprising that hasn't really raised Dallas' ability to move up the ranks in the West. Upgrading defense... yeah makes sense.. so why not talk to the Grizzlies about Triple-J or Steven Adams? Upgrades your rebounding and interior defense. Then pick up say an Alex Caruso to upgrade your perimeter defense and take over the point when Trae gets a breather on the bench? So three team deal.... Chicago gets Murray... Atlanta gets Caruso and Adams (or Triple-J but they would need to sweeten the pot quite a bit for him)... and Grizz get Capela and a pick-swap or cash considerations. That would probably work.
This is a great idea! at first, I thought CP3 on the spurs would be a better idea, but because of you, bro. I can now simulate trae Young on the Spurs on two k twenty four and test out your theory
Austin for Murray is an idiotic trade for the Hawks. This sounds like a Laker plug to get Murray..Laker fans were doing the same thing last year with Kyrie for Westbrook (dumbass trade proposal)..Hawks fired Nate McMillan who had this team over-achieving. Quin Snyder has been horrible for the team...FIRE QUIN SNYDER!!!
Young is not a liability at defense. Doncic has a lesser defensive good influence for his team too. But Young he isn't. During his absent. Atlanta Hawks played like sh😢t. To anyone say he is, if he does, Hawks should be winning by now at his finger injury absent of playing.
Why would the haws trade young?? I know murray might be a possibility but not trae. If im going to trade murray im going for bradley beal or maybe tyler herro. Murray will definitely fit with the suns and the heat cause it will bring him back to his natural position as pg.
