*Please get some of those StarLink setups into HENDERSONVILLE, NC*, south of Asheville. There are hundred of thousands of people trapped in the mtns there, roads washed out, needing communication and gasoline for generators for their well-pumps to keep working.

Thank you so much for organizing the donations. My wife and I lost so much. We had to be rescued during the flooding in Asheville. We were taken to a shelter and we're there for several days with no power or service. They need the help extremely bad. Asheville NC was not prepared like a gulf coast state. The devastation and destruction in the Western Carolinas is worse than the national media has shown. We need all the help we can get.

Soo, why all the star links instead of generators when a star link needs electricity? Not to mention a monthly fee when the infrastructure is destroyed meaning no work. No work, no paycheck. So how to pay the $160 a month for any kind of worthwhile star link plan. Don't misunderstand... they need all the help we can give them! I'm hoping the animals are not forgotten, I have been a cat rescuer for years and right now the shelters in Middle TN are full, foster homes for cats and dogs are full, so we need people to volunteer to foster any displaced animals.

No! I’m in SE Georgia and been without power for 4 days and no end in sight! Mentally, I am give out! Yes, I was spoiled with AC/food and shelter (army brat) growing up but our local power company seems to have been unprepared! In 4 days, we went from 624 restored out of 6.7 thousand to 0 restored out of 6.9 thousand today! 😩😩 I pray for all that have been affected by Helene and for the safety of the brave linemen trying to get us restored! 🙏🏻🙏🏻

It's horrific down here. People are getting violent around the gas pumps and there are reports of home invasions in South Augusta. Some stores have been looted. It seems the response has been slow, I'm not sure people even know we were hit as hard as we were. It's gonna take a long long time before we're okay. If this next tropical storm gathers strength and hits us I don't know what we'll do. We can't handle rain right now either.

I feel like that’s actually a blessing considering Southern weather. It’s better to be without electricity in a Southern Fall than be without electricity in a Southern Summer. Perhaps it’s just my Northern Minnesota butt being accustomed to a literally borderline subarctic climate, but if “winter” temperatures are 30-50 degrees, I see no reason to worry. Grab some blankets. If you have a roof over your head and some blankets you’ll be perfectly fine. That’s literally summer weather up north.

Hay, Ryan, I'm a resident of WNC. This storm has absolutely destroyed everything that made this mountain region familiar. I'm sure you're aware of the extent of the damage, but it has been absolutely devastating and heartbreaking to our communities. Then to see on social media, people make our active heart break a platform for political virtue signaling....it's just lemon juice in the wound. That being said, seeing people's support has brought me to tears. Thank you for using your platform to help us and others impacted by this devastation. It really means the world.

I'm in Table Rock-Cleveland area, SC. National guard is here and Charleston FD and others have sent Crews to help our emergency responders. There is help being sent from all over but there's so much damage that they can't get to it all.

It would be so nice if some tree services could come down and help out those of us who are older and not able, both physically and financially, to remove all these downed and hung up trees on our properties. Some of us retired people simply don’t have thousands of extra dollars to pay for tree removal. My husband and I are taking care of the stuff on the ground, slowly and surely as best we can, but we have several huge oak trees that broke or split and are now hung up on other huge trees. There is no way we can get these trees down, and leaving them as they are is dangerous for ourselves and for our pets.

We still have no power or internet on st Simon’s island ga. If feels like everyone is passing us by because we are a small area that’s not very populated. No generators or starlink is available here. Even gas is hard to find. It’s hard with two small children under ten. And trying hard but I’m disabled and I’m trying to just take it day by day.

That's what happened to us after we're hit by Hurricane Rita. Everything was centered around Hurricane Katrina. Resources was pulled from our area to Nre Orleans. I feel for the people. It's heartbreaking.

there is a video about insurance co. in particular heritage not paying or downgrading their claims...they use alternative adjuster who give the $$$ amount but heritage downgrades the $$$ claim...otherwise, they are not paying people who have supported them for YEARS!...who knows????

Insurance is not a savings account. and unless one has a flood policy, only available in flood zones, one must have had the roof come off to cover water damage. Read your policy. Most of these companies are now solvent with this catastrophe.

Par for the course. I paid in for 15 years..while I listed on my application that I heated my house with kerosene, electric, and wood stove. Then one day my agent said..we are canceling your home insurance because you have a wood stove. But when I got rid of the wood stove, they refused to take me back. Uh huh…I see how ya are…. Just got our power back late last night and so thankful all we lost was what we couldn't put into a cooler . We are not far from where the devastation begins in WNC and so many of us are doing all we can but we need help from our POTUS now!!! My heart is broken for those who are trapped ,who have lost their lives ,homes, it's beyond dismal! But like I said so many nearby communities are coming together to bring aid shelter rescue food as soon as we are able to. All who truly takes care of us is each other from what I'm seeing. I’m heading down to Asheville tomorrow and then heading down to Florida to help out anyway I can. Helene was the strongest hurricane to make landfall on the US Coastline in 2 years (Ian 2022) and will forever be remembered for the devastation it left behind and the extreme intensification process.

Not just Asheville & above! Ga & Upstate S.C. are war zones. Many without food or power. We had more people without power than any of the other states. Not downplaying the other areas, especially Asheville, but am so tired of seeing S.C. hardly or not even mentioned like we don’t even exist .

Pennsylvania has sent Emergency Management and National Guard sources to the affected areas as per Governor Shapiro they are on their way. Pennsylvania Task Force one is already on the ground in North Carolina.

We have people here in southern WV that have been without power since Saturday and could use some assistance. The ground was so saturated from rain that trees fell and took down utility lines.

Went through the middle of GA where it hit and it’s a mess. Some areas are going to be out of power for a good bit. I feel like they are getting less attention than TN. Ware county additionally has internet and cell service problems too.

Hey, Ryan, I have a random question for you: Why don't they just use drones to fly supplies to areas that can't be reached by roads? Maybe this is something that could be looked into. I know it won't fix the electric and other issues that need people to make the repairs, but you could get MREs and water to various locations.

Good thought, but...The military may have that capability, but apparently it's not yet commercially available for mere civilians. Only heavy-duty drones such as the Airbus UAV can carry anything more than a few pounds. The Airbus can carry up to 40-ish lbs under ideal circumstances. That's 3 gals of H2O.

A person generally needs 2000 calories and 5 lbs of water per day. 2000 balanced calories = 1 lb dry. That's 6 lbs per day, per person. That's 1.5 tons per day for a tiny village (500 pop), or 12 tons per day for a small town (4000 pop). The zipline platform 1 drone carries 4 pounds 50 miles in a 1.5 hr total trip, so 60 lbs per day. That thing has an 11 ft wingspan. They'd need hundreds off these things.

I tuned into the actual news stations of SD counties affected and listen to who they are working with where drop offs can be and so on. I kind of stayed away from Big news stations who are using like Red Cross and such, but actually tune in to the counties local news station.
