There was no Austro-Hungary at that time. That comes at 1867

I'm Austrian and my parents used to own paintings of soldiers with such sabers. I never knew any background on them and sadly my parents sold the paintings due to financial problems.

Just joined your channel. My grandfather Kovats Andras was a Capt. in the Budapester Honvéd Husaren Rgt 1. Otherwise known as The Imperial and Royal Hussars, the Dare Devils 1914-'18

@@pinswords He died a decade before I was born. Have several photos, but one in particular is a small beat-up one of him at the front.

Given that they inspired the 1796, I'm somewhat surprised at how gradual that distal taper seems to be! Although I suppose they do have different blade profiles. Are they tip heavy?

The 1798 has a used and abused blade, likely why the tip profile is different from regular Austrian blades. Normally they were beefier and more like the 1796 that copied them. They weren't tip heavy.

Do you think its possible to have a custom one made?

Yes, if some makers can make the British 1796 this one can be made; the real question is who would want to do a repro. I seem to recall some smiths in the Czech Republic and Poland offered reproduction of similar models.

Nice videos!. I collect napoleonic sabers, mostly french cavalry. Could you make a video about the Garde de bataille--my fav. pattern

Arg, those are way too expensive for my budget. If I find a good period one I will for sure.
