In the heights of the Bolivian altiplano, at an altitude of 3700 meters, lies the largest salt desert in the world. In this lunar scenery, the Aymara people have been exploiting for centuries the unique wealth of the region: salt.

I would not refer to them as "Indians", they are Aymaras, "Indians" was the word used by the colonizadores because they thought they were in India and for many generations it was a word used by the descentands of Europeans to discriminate the natives. Just call them aymaras.

They should be rich! Why ate they not? salt is so important. I hope they're able to maintain their traditional way of life, and also, get more than a subsistence income. I hope the makers of the lithium batteries stay far away from that place. We know that's not likely to happen. So sad! We know humans can come up with other technologies for making batteries.

They're not Indians, they're native Bolivians or South Americans. It's disrespectful for both them as well as us Indians to use these terms by negating our own distinctive cultures.
