Ricky's techniques _are_ pretty unorthodox in Rock and Roll to the best of my knowledge. Sometimes he played sounding like it's two guitars but it's really just him, (yeah I realize that was common with country music players like Merle Travis but this isn't quite the same) other times there are two guitars in early B52s tracks but he still played parts that were incredible though simple.
he was very innovative as far as how he used alternate tunings went. He would even remove strings and use unison strings (strings tuned to the same note)
I just heard the original song before i jumped straight to here, and THEY STILL GOT IT!! Even after 20 years, it still sound close to the original. I am very impressed. Oh and R.I.P Ricky.
I cant say enough good things about this band. from 82 when i was in 8th grade all the way up to having the DJ playing them at my wedding reception LOVE this BAND! B-52's, Devo, Gary Newman, The Cars, and the Go Go's..aww memories.
i have loved this band since i saw them in 1988 kate was awesome then and age has not withered the talent and fred is 1 of the best frontmen i have ever seen
I saw the B-52's on the Legion Field stage in Athens back in 1990 just as Cosmic Thing was coming out. Love Tractor opened up for them. It was great! Students were filling all the windows in Creswell Hall looking down into the bowl. Kate was rocking her flapper dress like always!
I saw them in 1987 at University of Minnesota and they were awesome! People were dancing so hard that the balcony was swaying up and down and the management told them they couldn't do Rock Lobster! It was scary but we were all joking about the fact that they literally almost brought the house down:)

I don't want to sound patronising but it took guts for them to perform this song in 2000 on Leno. I'm sure the majority of the studio audience and people at home must have been thinking "wtf is this shit?". But class is class, and this was a very good performance. Shame about Kate looking like a Chucky Doll though, but at least the others looked great!
