For those confused why they'd use this passage, it takes 3 hours one way to get to the College by train (mentioned in ep 1). As to why Elias can't just teleport them there, I don't remember it being explained, but I'm guessing it has to do with the effort he'd have to put. Travelling big distances twice a day might be too much to him. Elias is strong but not omnipotent

I vaguely remember that Elias travels with the Ley lines as a shadow, which everyone in the world who has a connection to magic can feel (hence why you’ll know later in the season when Chise does use the leyline,[I bet you remember that sequence] everyone senses it) So probably just less rude to distract the world unless the situation calls for it.

@@TH_Sofa I guess that overall a mage always have to deal with spirits, fairies, deities and many other kind of entities to use magic. So while becoming a shadow is part of Elias "properties", long distance travel might require some added assistance/powers from something else...and has they have said multiple times in the series already...it's always best to not exceed your bounds with those entities as their help can be quite "fleeting".

I feel like all this emphasis is a red flag, so either Chise will be forced to get lost in that void due to enemy plot or maybe enemy will have karma and probably eaten alive by those guardians

@kirine sin "BIG SPOILER WARNING:" Something happened at the university that forces Chise to escape in that way, but his pursuers also manage to get into the void, but they almost got... well... "killed" by the "dogs". Then, because one of his pursuers begged for mercy, Chise being Chise makes a quick trade with these "dogs" to save the pursuers (or at least the ones who managed to stay alive).

I just love the storytelling of Ancient Magus' Bride, and how they take from existing myths to weave this tale. Though I don't remember the guard dogs being in it. lol. Anyway.

Chise is a conduit, and she doesnt have full control yet of her abilities, by locking eyes with the "dog" she made a connection which allowed it to talk through her. Keep the "eye contact" in mind it will play out again in the future.
