The Backcountry Day Hike - (4K) Canon Vixia GX10 

Day Hike this week, Overnight Adventure next Friday! - Luke

Thanks for the HUNDREDS of hours of fun and education! I LEARNED SO MUCH FROM YOU. I never thought I could ever "teach" you anything, but here goes. I carry two (or a few) contractor trash bags for many uses. One of which is to wear them like hip waders to cross streams. I don't have to take my shoes and socks off, just put on my trash bags and go! I hold them up with my hands or sometimes large rubber bands around my thighs. Then I just hang them on my backpack to dry and use them again at the next stream. Thanks again, Luke!

My son was in the Air Force & my Daughter is in the Army now! They both have loved it!

Duck Walk... Took me back to childhood, when I got into trouble I had to do situp's, pushup's, and the dreaded Duck Walk. By the time I volunteered for Vietnam, PT was a simple trick for me. The only time my Son ever had to call me Sir, was when He got into trouble and had to count off his punishment, as in, 1 Sir , 2 Sir and so on. Congrats to your Daughter, Tell her to take the good and the Bad with the same strength. The time she will spend will bring Life long memories, and mostly only the good remains. The Bad you learn to deal with over time.

Great video. Hiked that trail not too long ago with a scout group. Cool history in that area and why that stone bridge and foundation where built what now seems to be nowhere was a community back in the early 1900’s. As a Navy vet, congrats on your daughter’s decision. Keep up the great work!

Great Review. Only suggestion, when doing walking videos, following the Rule of 1/3's and putting the lead of the image in front of you would make the viewer feel more relaxed and not feel like we're falling out of the scene. Otherwise, Amazing footage and great presentation. Thanks. I have the XF400 and considering the GX10 as a 2nd/Broll camera. BTW, when my family was young, my wife, I, our two children, spent an entire month on the road traveling and camping and not once did we go to a campground. For bathing, we stopped along the road by some large creek, and put on our bathing suits and waded/bathed with soap and all, even in our strides we completed the task. Well, when we came down out of Yellowstone midway in the 6 week journey, we say this steadily rolling mild rapid and decided it was a perfect place for bathing. We changed clothes and headed to the water and quickly jumped in not realizing that this water was melted snow some 1/2 to a mile above. YIKES !!! It was NOT fun but we had to bathe as we were already ready and thus, received an experience that we didn't forget even to this day over 50 years later. :-)

5-Axis Optical Image Stabilization works really well

I'm from Finland and we just had our 100th year of independence. It wouldn't have been without the people that serve and I have done my duty and served for a year(we have conscript service) I know it's voluntary there in US, but it's still as awesome as it`s here to see a woman who wants to serve her country. Ps. Luke you should try swimming in a hole cut in ice.. I bet you would enjoy it..

Beautiful country and a great hike. Congrats to your family w/your daughter Maddie heading out. I was career USAF, but spent a lot of joint time w/the other service members. I'm not sure any decision would be a bad one. The Lord God Almighty has provided us an abundant life to live, explore, and enjoy. I shoot with a TMCHD900 full hd. Only problem I find using video cameras for vlogging selfies is the narrow angel of view. The weight factor and cost of it breaking or loosing it. A Go-pro set up is the best option for this type of selfie blog shooting. I Enjoy all your videos Thank you.

Hey Luke, when I saw your water bottle, it reminded me to tell you about the new CNOC Vecto water container, I recently got mine, they are really cool, it has an open end similar to a Platypus but has a screw end that fits the Sawyer water filter, much easier to fill than the bladder that comes with the Sawyer, and even though it's plastic it's bullet proof, check it out, and I can't wait to hear your review. The new camera looks great but the audio really sounded awesome.

I have a contribution to the hiker/camper community. Instead of using zip lock plastic bags to pour hot water into to rehydrated your meals, use a Doritos bags. The bag is made of mylar, it's sealed, doesn't warp or flex with heat and doesn't leach out harmful chemicals. Cheetos, Smart Popcorn, etc, any snack bag that has mylar interior coating.

Great camera, and adventure ^^

Every time I think about buying this camera -- an easy, quick, grab and go, point and shoot solution -- I wander through this video. A good test -- bright spotty lighting, harsh shadows. Not bad for an 8-bit 150Mb/s camcorder. In late 2019, it's still the *only* 4k/60 fps camcorder available from anyone for anywhere near $2K. But that's where the good news ends for me. The Vixia GX10 is cheap money compared to the competition, but _insane_ compared to my experience... my GoPro shoots similar quality 4k/60fps, my drone shoots much better quality 4k/60fps, my phone shoots even better 4k/60fps (these three devices *together* cost less than $2K) -- In fact, a BMPCC 4K with a 14-140 mm zoom would cost less than $2K and produce *spectacular* professional-quality video. I might pay $800 for the Vixia GX10 as knock-around camera -- more if it produced better video. But the way it is right now, I couldn't hold my nose hard enough to pay $2K.

the 60p makes a big difference, it's nice and smooth, I've always hated the 30p stutter on 4k. But there is no bokeh which makes the image look flat.
