IMO episode 12 "The Outpost" is one if not the best episodes of Star Wars Animation. Kiners Music.. the cinematography the writting.. it is just incredible.
It’s definitely up there. It’s hard to compete with the siege of Mandalore, the last two arcs of season 5 of clone wars, twilight of the apprentice, and basically the final season of rebels, but yes it’s definitely high up there.
I have waited a LONG time for THIS reaction. And all of your reaction, especially your reactions to the heart melting scenes of Crosshair and Mayday’s trek across the frozen tundra were even more perfect than I already knew they would be. Just MAGNIFICENT, Jess.
It always makes me so happy when Jess immediately remembers every little detail and connection to other canon content she has seen. She’s got the Star Wars archives stored in her brain! 😂
This was the point where Crosshair became my favourite part of the squad. I remember when this season came out I was always hyped when we got episodes with him. I love all of the Batch but the tragedy of Crosshairs story is just on another level.
Finally! Not like I’ve been refreshing youtube every 45 minutes or so since this morning or anything. I’ve been eagerly awaiting your reaction to this. One of my favorite episodes in the show. Mayday will forever be iconic. And that growl in Crosshair’s voice when he says you could’ve saved him gives me chills every time. Nolan was so punchable! That moment when Crosshair shot him made everyone very happy. You’re not ready for Crosshair’s arc from this point on.
the lietennant makes Rampart look like Gandhi. This reaction was a whole new level for me, never seen Jess hate a fictional character this much before. Makes me think who she'd kill first in a room full of Slitheen, snakes, and this guy.
Who would've thought we'd get an exploration of the shoddy treatment of soldiers as replaceable tools that get fed into the meat grinder of the Imperial war machine and tossed away when they stopped being useful...in an animated series...made by the Disney corporation. Season 2 of the Bad Batch as a whole is absolutely fantastic, but I think the Crosshair-centric episodes were honestly the clear standouts of both this season and the show as a whole
Yeah its great, perhaps the best theme, along with Omega's Theme, in the show. In the musical version you also get the full Crosshair leitmotif too, which isn't present in the episode.
@@shugaroony Are you referring to the theme we heard in the third to last episode of season one, where Crosshair sees just Hunter in the cell? I have been trying to find that theme for years, with no luck. I am pretty sure it’s a remix or something along those lines. If you have ever seen the show “The Mentalist”, the composer does the same thing and the only way to listen to the music is to watch the episode, lol. Edit: Never mind. I re-read what your comment said. I misread it.
The Outpost was heavily inspired by All Quiet On The Western Front. Jennifer Corbett reposted the movie poster for it the day before this episode came out. 31:00 Anakin's affection for the Clones is completely overblown. Don't forget that Anakin and Vader are exactly the same person. Anakin enslaved the men of the 501st and used them to commit the genocide of the Jedi. They were completely trapped inside of their bodies as they gunned down kindergartners.
7:50 no, you're right. It took nearly 13 years IRL for them to come back to it, but they did tie it back to that Season TWO Clone Wars arc with the Zillo beast. Fun Fact: That Clone Commando with the Yellow markings? That's Scortch from Delta Squad. Who first debuted in the video game Republic Commando. Bonus Fun Fact: The Republic Commando H.U.D. was also used for Hunter's H.U.D. after he was shot by Cad Bane.
What's so ironic about the prick Nolan is that he acts like clones are beneath him and that they're "used equipment", but since the Empire views clones as lesser beings, living property, the fact that he's being put in charge of a team of clones suggests that he's not worth much to them either. Not to mention that he (and the Empire) overlooks the fact that the clones are combat veterans who just fought and won a three year long war, unlike the TK troopers who are inexperienced recruits from an initiative that only started about a year prior. Either way, Nolan was basically a human Pong Krell, so for weeks prior to this review, and having seen your reaction to the Umbara arc in TCW, there wasn't a doubt in my mind that from his very first scene alone, you'd be eager to see his demise.
These two episodes are so fascinating. I find it incredible how much they develop Crosshair in season 2. Especially this episode you realize that most of the clones are finally getting what is happening to them. And that Lieutenant is kind of the way a lot of the empire viewed them. No longer their rescuers now they are old, broken and reminders of a worse time. Which is why it makes us angry as Clone believers.
The opening to 2x11 legit felt like the opening episode to Stranger Things. It was the exact same thing: a lone person running through dark hallways, then gets pulled up and eaten by a monster.
Ngl, even thinking about what Crosshair went through in this episode makes me tear up. He's been through so much, and now he finally snapped. Seeing Mayday die, how evil the Empire truly is, betraying the people they expect to be loyal. This is the best episode of The Bad Batch and nothing will make me change my mind. 😭😭
Outpost is the ep where Crosshair fully realise the empire doesnt care for him and knew he is just like other clones that were treated coldly as Omega and the his bros tried to tell him so many times but he refused to listen and we got this ep today to proof...
Lt. Nolan was as hated as Pong Krell. Imagine if The Outpost were a four-episode arc like Umbara. I was looking forward to Jess's reaction for this episode.
11:52 The prejudice/racism towards Clones does make sense/justify after the Emperor gave the speech about them inflicting carnage without hesitation. Wiped out a whole civilization and Clones are blamed for that which I think why LT. Nolan treated them as such. Why else would anyone want to trust their own military like that? Makes people unease abt it & being used to turn on the Republic by some rogue element like Vice Admiral Rampart. The soldiers involved are just as accountable as the officer who gave the order.
I think you're being too hard on that Imperial Lieutenant- he's just a guy doing a difficult job in a professional and unbiased manner. He's a good guy. (okay, we all wanted him dead too!)
As a general rule I hate one-dimensional characters, they feel like cheap writing, but I'll make an exception here as the lieutenant was necessary to bring Crosshairs to his crisis and awakening.
