Did this about 6 yrs ago. Beautiful October day. I will never forget the walk. Stunnning place. As you said it’s a long walk out. Great video.

Terrified me watching that. Can’t believe I did it. I was similar to Chas . I missed a fantastic day on it at Easter 84 with a knee injury but was determined to do the pure ridge line. Well done to you both. On a perfect day in 1997, we reached the bad step and the party of five including two people I thought were better scramblers than me didn’t like the look of it. I didn’t but I knew I was in great form that day and made a start and can remember one of my friends saying “ He’s going for it” . I climbed it unroped and three of my my friends followed roped. One went round the side . I wasn’t comfortable though ; it is probably the only place outside of the Skye Cuillin that I felt intimidated. I always felt intimidated on all my five days on the main Cuillin though I did love the Blaven Clach Glas Arrete. After that , I went over every pinnacle and I was just in the zone . It just all came easily . I was always good with drops either side but really didn’t like the drop behind on the bad step. I’ve had so many fantastic mountain days that I don’t like picking a number one but that was probably it. Doing the Aonach Eagach in both directions in the day in Oct 05 was well up there too. Much better than walking back along the A82. Also a contender is a round of all Bidean’s tops in perfect hard snow at Easter 89 finished by the satisfying crunch of crampons all the way down to the Hidden Family. On the other hand, although I found no difficulty on them, I was suffering depression on the day I did Liathach and later that week the Saddle and Sgurr na Sgine and contrary to what you read about outdoor exercise being good mentally, it never worked for me and sadly those two great ranges left me cold. My last Scottish scramble was the Pirmill Ridge on Arran in 2015. I failed and had to go round the side. Couldn’t cope with the long reaches on the huge granite blocks. I knew that day that it was all coming to an end for me. The only thing I would say is that all these type of videos make it look scarier than it is. That’s not a criticism; it’s a great video and thanks for it but there must be something about the effect of the camera looking down so much that makes them seem worse.

@@LETSGOYONDER Cheers Leon ; pity it couldn’t have gone a bit longer but I did do the vast majority of the mountains I wanted to do in both the UK and Ireland . Best wishes to you. Cheers Des

Awesome trail, somehow the trails over the mountains are by some rule the most beautiful for hiking and this one is certainly no exception.🥾🥾

I fully understand your excitement. I have done this mountain 4 times. It is wise to be apprehensive, I would always suggest good visibility, if the mist doesn’t clear as you approach the ridge go home and go back another day. But once done it draws you back. 👍

Nice video. I am a bit too old to do it any more, but have traversed AT five times, once in winter. However I never did do the bad step. No ropes in summer and avoided in the winter! Great effort for first real climb. It is a lovely mountain, and the whole of the Fisherfield is fantastic. Do go back, it will be worth it.

I've seen a wingsuit jumper take the plunge off Lord Berkeley's Seat..so, yes, it's seriously exposed!

Bravo! Always so satisfying to do something you've wanted to do for a long time. Am planning to climb An Teallach this year or next ...been on my radar for over 40 years. I'm guessing you did the traverse counter clockwise ?

Brilliant video 😁loved it Leon..Are ropes required on the scramble?..It looks like a grade 2 scramble though very exposed so I would probably take one incase 🤣..Top video mate new subscriber😁 Cheers Robert

How necessary where the ropes in your experiance, seems like a scramble from the video. Excellent content btw very instructive.
@LETSGOYONDER
@LETSGOYONDER 2 года назад
It all depends on the level and competence/confidence of the climber, for someone who climbs all the time at a high grade then ropes might not be necessary, unless you don’t trust yourself with 1000m drop below you. There where a few people who solo’d up the bad step but also there where another two groups of people who climbed with ropes as well. It’s all subjective really and depends on your personal reasoning of skill vs risk. I would say if you where visiting for the first time and if you where with another person then it’s worth having a rope and scrambling rack. If you are on your own you can always take the little path around to the left to skip the bad step and then go up an easier scramble to the top of the ridge 👍
@petraresilio

@@LETSGOYONDER Thank you for the reply kind sir. I dont wanna beta this too much as everybody says its too good to be true, done the AE and Liathatch ridges, would you say its in the same grade or significantly harder? Cheers.
@jamesjoyce5962
@jamesjoyce5962 Год назад
Great video do you remember how exposed is the bypass path?
@LETSGOYONDER
@LETSGOYONDER Год назад
To bypass the bad step, the path around to the left wasn’t too exposed, definitely the safer option

what road is in the very first shot?
@stevehorner8302
@stevehorner8302 6 месяцев назад
I did that in the 80s with my dog and wife, found it easy. The pinnacle Ridge of Sgurr nan Gillian is way more hairy. The the Inn pin, climbing up the centre crack on the southern slab at a rock climb grade of server is also very hairy
