The author does like to from scratch, ru-vid.comUgkxbnOKZBE4evMO5V2vroHeCjq6d_MV6wJO shaping and trimming wood from large blocks into fine finished products. As another reviewer mentioned, most projects require a lot of high-dollar equipment that most of us don’t have the room or budget for. But, knowing how to do these things, even if we won’t be able to practise the full stack project, is still great.
Oh how I love those Ford tractors! A mid 60s 3000 diesel is what I learned on. Few things at that time could make a 12yr old boy happier. I loved bushogging and if given the opportunity today I would probably love it just as much as I did almost 50yrs ago. thanks for sharing,it brings back alot of happy memories!
If I had my choice of upgrading to a bigger tractor that would be the one, I would even settle for gas or diesel. The Kubota would be my next choice. Ford made some good tractors back in their day.
Wow, that was a lot of flies in the pig pen. Maybe stringing up a really hot fence and letting the pigs root up some of the brush would kill two birds with one stone.
I have a Ford 3600 with a HD Woods Brushbull attached. Beast. A- Consider slowing down, B- Yanking a saw out of a pinch like that is going to tear the rubber mounts and/or pull the bar mount studs loose from the crankcase. Just use a wedge in the kerf and life will be easier. Love the drone footage from high above.
I love old Ford tractors I started out on a 19 48 Ford 8 n it was my great grandfather's an I still have it today an it runs an drives I use it to plow an disk my garden an plow snow an pull logs for fire wood I'm looking for a brush hog for it
Dad traded in the 8N for a 1966 4000 gas with a split grille like yours back in the early '70s. 4000 tested at around 47 pto hp and the 3000 at around 39 per TractorData. Good old tractors!
I wish I had 100 acres of 50 year old sweet gums, those tie logs are worth waaaay more that pine saw timber ever will be in the north AL/GA market.there is too much pine on the stump that was planted under CRP 20 to 40 years ago and company plantations. The pines not worthless but it's no we're near what it should be.
Thanks for sharing!!! I really enjoy these videos with a good mix of tractors working and some talking about projects. I am recovering from a surgery and I can't go do any of my projects for awhile until Doc clears me to run equipment.
The older diesel tractors are much ahead of the newer ones. You don't have fuel and time wasting regeneration, you're not tied to dealer specific maintenance. A good independent tractor mechanic can care for it. No complicated electronics. Nice cutter you're using. I'd guess that it's a standard gearbox, not J BAR specific. Good video. HAPPY HOGS!
Two things: 1. I too learned on a old Ford, a 1973 Ford 3500 diesel that looked exactly like yours. Great tractor. 2. The drone shots looking down through the trees are amazing. Well done.
I am always amazed seeing brush cutters in action. That's the next bit of equipment I need because I have reached the limit of what I can barrel over in an old sacrificial riding mower.
Nice one Wes! I've mentioned before how much I love that Ford 3000! Every time I hear you start yours up, it reminds me of the great days I had driving one here in the UK in my Teens! Stay safe & well. 👍👍
Where I live in Thailand they use old 3000s and similar to haul boats in and out the beach every day. the condition of them is amazing lol even seen one the front axle bar fell off and for the past 6 months just held on by twisted wire lol
Those old Ford tractors are a work horse for sure. I’ve got to get mine running again before it returns to the earth, but haven’t wanted to fight with it since getting the a new John Deere.
Well, you made that look like hard work ! Cutting a stump while you tractor sat on top of it. All you needed to do was, put a block of wood against one tyre and the Ford would have lifted itself off the stump !!! You can buy an orger type, post drill, which can be used to drill out the whole tree stump, with the right tip.
Why in the hell would anybody want a bad tractor? Most people try to stay away from bad products!!! And people that use reverse terminology look and sound like idiots to everybody else!!!
Bro take bottom bolt off the face plate of gear box. 99% of time that's will be your drain and when 3pt raised you can drain it to nothing. Put bolt back in and tighten then refill to check plug and you golden
That J-Bar brush hog is impressive Wes. You were mowing down stuff that I was cringing at but went right through. I was thinking when you said, "Laziness never pays off"...Oh I'll take care of that stump another day...like when my tractor gets stuck on it. Great video Wes thumbs up.
Regarding how you handled that oil on the gear and so many other issues you came across. I would have addressed those in the same way. Great to see some sensible down to earth practical resourcefulness! 👍
I love your ford tractor I wish I could find one that nice you have a gem I bought a Bush hog bh16 I thought I would try to do what you did and I mess up gear box output shaft broke in half that one is going to cost me not blaming bush hog I should have known better old country boy here from bedford va
Go around the outside edge with the brush cutter. Set a hot wire and let your pigs loose. They will have a great time, clear the area and give you great tasting pork.
Wes, you never disappoint! Your video quality is the finest that I see on RU-vid! I honestly cannot fathom how much work it is for you to make these videos in the field while you're doing brutally hard work. Outstanding is an understatement! 👍👍👍💪💪💪
Wes, This Gal has another vid explaining why she starts a saw like shown ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-8prRJH3gxmQ.html Mainly safety reasons
I for one, LOOOOOOOOOOOOOVE that good ol' FORD tractor!!!! Whenever I see it, it brings I smile to my face much like seeing 'soft batch' chocolate chip cookies!
Yoire living my literal dream. Your property is breath taking. Would you mind if i Dm'd you with some questions for advice on how to get to where you are? Im curious how you finance this property and equiptment when it seems the property is not profit turning itself and you ger to spend all your time worjing the land. Is it simply through social media you afford my dream?
I have an newer orange tractor also but would love to find a decent old Ford tractor ….ran across a couple over the years but people wanted way too much money for the shape and repairs they were in! The old “I know what I got” syndrome had these people …both tractors were covered in over brown bushes and such! The people didn’t even bother pulling them out! 😅
I will agree with on the sweet gum trees. They are really a nuisance in the fall with all the balls that fall of of them. Love seeing the FORD tractor in all the videos. Looks like the J Bar brush hog will do the job. Have a great week and God bless.
I have an old J-Bar Finish Mower that I bought used ten years ago and I used it for a lot of mowing that should probably have been a job for the brush hog. It lasted me a good long while until the spindle bearings went. I called J-Bar and, even though it was some twenty years old, they had all the parts I would have needed to get it back up and running. Well... I saw a new big box brand deal on sale and impulse took over. I won't say what brand I got, but its been nothing but trouble for me and I now regret that decision. More than one occasion I have considered selling the new shiny and using that money to fix my old J-bar. Friends... if you can get your hands on a J-bar anything... know that its going to be built like a tank and, when you do end up needing parts, you can just call them up with your serial number and they'll take care of you.
We use to have an old Ford 3000 with a loader. Do you all have problems with the breaks? Are always had problems with them. Other than that it was a beautiful tractor!!!
You mentioned laziness as far as the stump was concerned, how about this you have cut so many so maybe this particular stump you missed, I say this because having watched you for some time now I think the word laziness isn't a correct word in your case, i do enjoy your videos.
"Old"? smh. I have a '50 8n and a '54 NAA. I would love to have some of the more modern features on that tractor. I was laughing when you were talking about not having any affiliation with J-Bar and I am looking right at the t-shirt. Love the idea of using a lynch pin for the rear wheel, but I could very easily see that getting caught on something and popping off. From my racing days (which was a constant battle to keep things from falling off, similar to tractoring...), I would recommend some safety wire on that to keep it in place.
Maybe moving a little to fast at first when cutting I notice you slowed down some a good idea with hidden stumps and such but good video as always! You might go back and walk with your chainsaw where you brush cut and flat cut those rough cuts from the brush hog because you will run over them again and punch your tires just saying from experience friend. Is there a way to weld a roll bar or something for your safety? Lap belt?
My grandfather had Ford tractors and they used them nearly every day. Memories!! PS…. Expand the pen for those pigs out into the brush. They’ll clear it in no time.
You should never fuel up a running tractor. My dad almost burned up himself and a barn full of hay. Put me in the hospital getting him out of the fire and putting it out.
Good tractors Ford's, I had 2 x 4000's and a TW25 all were excellent and never let be down once in all the years I had them. That Bush walker, good strong toll and worth its weight in gold.
