The Bair House, built in 1888 for Dr. Fred Bangs, is attributed to architects Samuel and Joseph Newson (whom also build the Carson Mansion in Eureka.) This is a house of complex rooflines, corner tower, gables, bays and a richly textured surface of patterned shingles and applied ornamentation. Most notable is hoarse shoe entrance and balustrade, lavishly decorated spindlework and Eastlake ornamentation.

Very nice. It's like something out of a movie and I'm always enamored by it. I live on western avenue, but wish I lived closer. Very enchanting piece of artistry.

There’s an old house in Eureka that looks a bit like this. Was this built with old logging money?

not sure the story, but found some info online: Built: 1888 Period: Victorian Architecture c. 1885-1900 Description: Constructed: 1888 Samuel and Joseph C. Newsom, the same architects responsible for the Carson Mansion in Eureka are credited for this beautiful Victorian. One of the State's premier examples of Queen Anne architecture, the Bair-Stokes House, built in 1888 for Dr. Fred Bangs, is attributed to architects Samuel and Joseph Newson. This is a house of complex rooflines, corner tower, gables, bays and a richly textured surface of patterned shingles and applied ornamentation. Most notable is hoarse shoe entrance and balustrade, lavishly decorated spindlework and Eastlake ornamentation.

We used to go "Trick or Treating" in that neighborhood... I think an HSU Professor owned or occupied the house back in those days (before Nixon was President).
