I find the OG more fitting because, unlike the others who all have unique backgrounds music pertaining to their personalities, she only has circus and church music because those are the only two things she knows about herself
Somehow, this gives me the mental image of Jane Doe in a church desperately praying to God for answers as to who she is, only to be heartbroken to receive no answer.
someone pointed this out in a comment section the other day: Jane’s song is the only song to have a choir-y vibe to it, and the background music is kinda carnival-y because all she knows is choir and carnival
Did you know that a decapitated head remains conscious for 30-40 seconds after decapitation? So she had to listen to all of her "friends" dying and having to live through the pain.
It’s even worse than that. Studies have shown that we still might feel pain for the first 10 seconds of being decapitated, and then possibly losing consciousness soon after. However, our brain may still be alive for up to 10 minutes (being generous af) afterwards, just unconscious. And we don’t even know how our subconscious really works either, as it’s very complex. Her brain could still be processing things while not even technically working.
Also the fact when everyone appeared at the same time in the beginning, she arrived later than the others. So that means she didn’t fully die till she went on stage. ☹️☹️
POV: you're at the the funeral for the choir and you hear this while listening to eulogy. You ask around and people just think you're f***ing insane or something.
I feel like she’d slowly walk down the middle of a very big beautiful cathedral till she gets to the for every eternity Jane doe where she’ll stop and stand at the front of the church / stage
sometimes when im writing short stories i think i have the plot all figured out and its perfect. and then a song appears in my recommended and now i guess i have to change the entire plot because inspiration mugged me at a street corner because of a song edit from a musical ive never listened to or heard of
2:06 to 2:11 is my favorite piano number. I don’t know why but it sounds the best, it goes up and then down like how the roller coaster did. Like her head did.
[LYRICS ! ! !] [Jane:] Some might say we're released Pushing daisies, deceased But we all know the worms must be fed There's just one lingering fear Oh my soul, is it here? Or is it rotting somewhere with my head? Oh my soul Oh my soul Oh my soul Oh my soul Ooh... Ooh... Ahh... Ahh... ah Oh no soul, and no name And no story, what a shame Cruel existence was only a sham? Oh Saint Peter, let me in! You must know where I've been Won't you tell me at last who I am? Who I am Who I am Who I am Who I am Ooh... Ooh... Ahh... Ahh... ah And from the ground, beneath my feet I hear the anguish of the street [Choir:] A choir never complete [Jane:] And like an old forgotten tune A song that no one knows... Forgot how it goes Just john and me Forever eternally, Jane Doe And I'm askin' why lord If this is how I die, lord Why be left with no family And no friends? [Choir:] Ooh [Jane:] I've got no celebration Just this consolation Time eats all his children In the end [Arpeggio riffing] Ahhh... A melody floats through the air When silence falls, does no one care? [Choir:] Does anyone care? [Jane:] Another sad, forgotten tune Another song that no one knows So that's how it goes! Just john and me Forever eternally, Jane Doe [Choir:] And she's asking "why, lord?" [Jane:] Why, oh why, oh why, oh why...? [Choir:] "This is no way to die, lord!" [Jane:] No one to sing, no one to sigh Now that all is said and done Isn't there anyone to tell me who I am? [Choir (Jane):] No singing songs of celebration (Ah ah ah ah) Just this sorry speculation (Aah ahh) [Jane:] Like john I'll be eternally A forgotten name, some lost refrain Just "Jane" Jane... Doe! [Choir:] A melody floats through the air When silence falls, does no one care? Jane Doe
I just played this for my guinea pig since I’ve never really played musical theater music for her…safe to say, she loved it. I haven’t seen her that comfortable in so long!
I did watch a recording of this musical, but for some reason the only song I can really remember is Noel's Lament, and I can't even *recognize* the ballad of Jane Doe unlike the other songs, so this was like listening brand new.
ayo happy year and a day anniversary to one of the best versions of this song. been listening to this exact version for a minute until i noticed the 1 year ago was new!
