Imagine this: Your name is Marianna. You're a senior in highschool and you're going to prom. You are having a good time until the most popular girl in school, Sara Berry, turns your insides into outsides and makes chili with them.

Sara: **slowly falls slowly insane** Sara's dad: *that's allot of damage... HOW 'BOUT A LITTLE MORE*

I know it isn't, but this *feels* like a cautionary tale about not pressuring children and teens to the point where their stress beats their rationality.

And yet ironically, she had the perfect chance to boost her popularity, by leading the charge to promote Julie as Prom Queen. She was so close to leaving High School with a perfect popularity end, but let greed and a psychotic dad trip her up at the finish line.

I've listened to this song so many times and this is the first time I heard the guy say, "What a bitch." I honestly can't right now.

At first the blood warning left me worried that she was going to start chopping off bits of herself for sympathy; this is perversely less horrifying.

Instead of “Julie had a hold on the lead” it should have been “Julie had leg up for queen”

I sympathize with Quiara (5th girl dead) a heck ton because: A) You drew her expression so great, she looked horrified. B) I can't swim, either.

Lol imagine being Julie in this scenario. First you lose your leg in a car accident. Then before you become prom queen you see the popular chick go on a murder spree so you have to call the police. The icing on the cake watching said chick dance with a cop with a bloody knife in her hand.

Those are some really creative ways of killing people

I'm amazed this song went the route of it being Sara's father who drove her to insanity. You'd think, because the song is about a girl obsessed with being prom queen, that it is her mother abusing her, maybe because she didn't win prom queen when she was a teenager and she is pushing her daughter to be the perfect prom queen to live vicariously, or she was prom queen and refuses to see her daughter not follow in her footsteps. But no, her DAD is the one who makes Sara believe that if she isn't prom queen then she's worthless. It makes me think Sara's dad was a high school star quarterback who married the prom queen and still carried those fucked up high school hierarchy beliefs into adulthood, then verbally beat them into his daughter's head. It's an interesting approach to take.

Awesome animatic! Also, when I explained to my mom what the song was about, she floored me by saying a similar thing happened to _her_ in high school, except in her case, it was for Homecoming Queen. A classmate of hers was missing a leg and got a bunch of pity votes and won. But thankfully, that’s where the parallels end, because unlike Sara, my mother was a good sport about it.

One scary thing for me is that she looks like she's never been happier once she goes crazy.

Here’s an idea me and my friend came up with the other day: Julie Jenkins is the main singer and the backing singers are the people Sara killed. Julie doesn’t know they are there (obviously because they are dead) Julie wrote the song about Sara and the events of prom soon after and often sings it to herself, she hasn’t sung it or shown it to anyone else but the dead people have been there the whole time listening to it, they now back her up every time she sings it. They say the lines about how they died (like Patricia says the line “p is for Patricia drinking poison punch”) Idk how we came up with this. We just did. Also, I do theatre and two of my friends from the theatre club are called Sara Berry and Julie Jenkins (Julie has a double barrelled surname but the last part is Jenkins) there’s also someone called Marianna and Anne. Um....yeah.

I have a theory So remember when the dad said "I know you won't disappoint me and mom" Maybe her parents gave her everything sara wanted but never gave her attention and that Sara really want to impress them and so she told her parents that she was running for prom queen and her parents were really excited and happy and started paying more attention to her but then Julie lost her leg and everyone started saying they would let Julie become queen and Sara's parents found out and they started lossing interest in Sara then she started going crazy to get their attention then she lost her sanity slowly until she went crazy and decided that she would murder the competition and win her parents favour and so she murdered them and got arrested Theory over But remember that's just a theory A song theory 😉

It's fascinating that Sara didn't kill Julie. How could she beat Julie if Julie is already dead? Sara killing 6 people, eliminating other participants and commitee (I don't know who those 6 people were), so she can have a true vote between her and Julie. No. It's not rational, but so is Sara.

I don't know if this is on purpose, but the number of letters used to spell 'Prom Queen' are the same amount to spell 'Sara Berry'. I thought that was kinda clever!

3:41-4:27 This part is just so good, with the image of her in her own mind as a queen with a prince, clean and fancy and beautiful, and the real version, with her bloodied and insane, with a cop arresting her. This was so good!

Honestly, I know everyone's talking about the terrible parenting here, but honestly, I have my doubts about whether those lines even happened. Remember, our narrators in this story are singing through the perspective of Sarah, and Sarah is an inherently unreliable narrator due to her many delusions. Those lines of terrible parenting could have just as easily been completely innocuous lines in reality that Sarah's troubled mind completely spun out of control

Omygod I loved the scenes where sara glitches between reality and her fantasy. Especially when shes in the asylum thinking she won the crown but shes really in a straight jacket.

I think Sera losing her sanity was mostly her father's fault. Because he's taunting her when she's going to be prom queen.

I'm just thinking about the logistics of this plot. Sara had to bludgeon a person, drown a person, poison the punch, hit someone with a rock, cut up two people and spread one all over the school all in under 5 minutes

Carrie Part 3

Sort of feel bad for Sara. Her parents held her to high expectations even to the point of making a big deal of being queen at prom. The type of girl who strives to impress everyone in order to be loved. Sacrificed time with her boyfriend and friends in order to achieve in life as her father said she should. in her need for perfection and love she strived to the point of a psychotic breakdown. In delusion she saw her wish to be accept by her father/ peers come true. In reality she had turned into a killer.

Actually this is super sad, also I never once saw what made the girl a "bitch" seems more jealous that she was popular & wealthy, I'm all for (and fully endorse) "Eat the Rich" however I also know when a girl is being called out for being a girl who's happy, or well.. she's pushed to unfair expectations, even by her (most beloved) father, who was likely it seems SUPER ABUSIVE, no in the physical sense that we can see, but in the Emotional & Mental sense. Much like in Gravity Falls with that blonde girl and her parents using the sound of a bell to control her. The only thing she ever did wrong, was being born FEMALE to a wealthy family, that appears to be her only crime real crime. The rest is just symptoms of the literally insane levels of abuse done to a young girl's mind over her entire lifetime.

I'm going to read too much into this but I'm getting the feeling Julie either never had a Father and imagined him and hence has always been mentally unstable or what her father said never happened but because he always put high expectations on her she was under so much pressure she became irrational and insane because she wanted to please her Father.

So I was listening to this, and at 1:52 you can hear the backup go "poor, poor Julie" and it's honestly kinda clever, I mean, let's face it, if it wasn't for the fact that Julie lost her leg, Sara would have been Prom Queen no doubt, and while Julie tooootally deserves it over Sara, the only reason she got it in the first place was so that everyone in the highschool could go, "look how morally upstanding and self-righteous we are, we voted for the handicapped girl and made her feel special" which is about what you'd expect from a bunch of highschoolers anyway, just thought that was a neat way to show the highschool oligarchy at its finest (massive sarcasm withstanding)

You did such an AMAZING job giving form to this music. I've got no words for the talent of these kids. I havn't heard something this great and original in a long long time. And this animatic is just perfect. The visual progression of Sara's psychosis is just beautiful and you really represented the stage personalities of the singers wonderfully.

Fun fact: the name Sara or Sarah means ‘princess’, so her father saying there’s “no future for a princess” shows that Sara herself was never good enough for him, even with all her accomplishments. The prom queen was just an excuse to push her further... and further... until it became her snapping point. I wonder how many of her previous accolades were earned partly through similar pressure from her parents/father (her mother seems to be absent).
