Tribute to Robert Mitchum Who Co - Wrote "The Ballad of Thunder Road" With Don Raye For The Movie "Thunder Road". What A Presence & Speaking/Singing Voice Robert Had.
They guy playing guitar is Joe Maphis. He is better known for playing the theme song to Bonanza. I got the opportunity to play the drums behind him and his wife Rose Lee in a few shows when I was 12-13 years old. Really nice, down to earth people.
Mitchum was one of a kind. I had the pleasure of working with him as an actor in Hollywood, near the end of his career and he was a joy to behold. Casual, genuine and a force of nature. Hollywood could take a lesson from him.
We grew up in Tennessee and all these roads are very familiar to me. I didn't know he cowrote and sang this song, but grew up hearing it and watching the movie. Great one!
Robert Mitchum was Holywood's origional badass. When being a badass was not popular or beneficial to your career. He also made fun of serious actors who thought acting was hard work. LOL! Ya gotta love that!
Nice to hear something a bit different Karen! Robert had a nice tone to his voice. I see this is very popular - 11 views with 8 thumbs up!!! Cheers Tiger.
What a so deeply heartwarming song! How so touching lyrics! So very special clip! Thank you so very much my dear friend for sharing your o extra ordinary upload with us!
Hello Karen, great upload. That is a great move too. Yeah, Mitchum sure could sing too. I like Mitchum's "Little Ol Wine Drinker Me" also :) Big hit by Dean Martin of course. I will cover it one day for sure. Liked #34...Lloyd :)
LOVE this movie ! We play this at the shows all the time, (Carshows) LOL..guess goes hand in hand ! I have a few other 45's he did, and an album he is on, with the Beach Boys no doubt ! His movie, "Heaven Knows, Mr. Allison" is one of my alltime favs.. Thanx for sharing this, and be sure to enter my ELVIS album giveaway ! Happy week, Karen !
They do not sing together, they are all on a variety album, called Shutdown, a bunch of classic Car songs, still pretty neat tho ! Have a great, safe weekend that way !
I never would have seen a lot of Robert's movies except he looked so much like Deano with those sleepy bed room eyes. I never knew he sang that song. Thanks 😊
Great song of the 50s, Karen...we have traveled through some of those cities that are mentioned in the lyrics...also, when things go wrong, blame the Devil...Robert had a great voice...have a very happy weekend!
This is great Karen. I am friends with Cynthia Mitchum, niece of Robert Mitchum and daughter of John Mitchum. I just sent this video to her. I bet she is going to love. it. I know I sure did!
Check out "River of No Return". He sang the title song in that movie as well. Co-starring Marilyn Monroe. I think his voice is better. (Looks too! LOL--but then I'm female!)
thank you my Fab sister! Your Postings are fun , nostalgic and a tool for newer fans to learn the past of beautiful music. My name is Don I see yours is likely Karen, and if so its been a pleasure coming to your site. And of course I'll be back as we all shine on!
Sad that cigarettes got Robert Michum and a bunch of so called tough men including a life long friend who loved this song. I heard it play when I was a little boy at my older brother's little league field some 60 years ago
Oh my gosh, this is UP there being one of my faves from you. Last weekend i told my Mom I was going to be making another Mitchum vid because first one was so so lol :D Now I will have to show her yours...It is AWESOME, I LOVED IT! ♡ Bravo Karen...Love R.Mitchums voice too! 🌠 LuvNhugz, Lady E
Two slight corrections: he "screamed" by Maynardville, not "streamed," and he had T-Men on his taillights, not G-Men. The Treasury Department went after moonrunners, not the FBI. Asheville also has an 'E' in it.
I grew up hearing a version of this (don't know who sang it) where the whole song was in minor. Hearing this now, the shifts between major and minor are really irritating and distracting. This song needs to be done in a minor key throughout. It's a dark story. Any shift into major lightens it up too much.
