On November 21, 1986, The Bangles appeared on "Late Night" with Joan Rivers, performing "Walk Like an Egyptian" and "Manic Monday." If you look closely, you'll also see Willard Scott and CHUCK NORRIS sitting on the couch with them.
Aside from maybe a sample or two from the original pressing yeah its refreshing to see a live performance with instruments and vocals instead of the backing track with live vocals. Here in UK most stuff at the time was totally lip synced for shows except for rare exceptions which is why bands like e.g. The Stranglers took the p*ss when they had to lip sync because they hated it...
Impossible to convey how big this band was at the time and how gorgeous Susanna was. You had to be there to really grasp it. Susanna was stunning and her voice was even sexier.
My thoughts as well. Always seemed to be more going on behind those eyes, but very little interview material out there on Micki Steele. Hope she is doing well...
@Nick - There is some really good stuff about her if you dig around the internet enough. All of the Michael songs are very personal and paying attention to the lyrics tells you a lot as well.
@@tommyvercetti8023 Well said. Her lyrics are totally personal. On the Bangles albums it's kind of like the Bangles songs and Michael Steele songs. They never really did get together in writing. I remember an interview in the early 2000s when Michael said they were actually working on writing songs together. But unfortunately those never got to see the light of day if they do exist.
This band has a sound unmatched by any other band since. Love the harmonies and that each member can sing, each with a unique range that makes every song tell a story. Great energy too! One of my all-time favs! cheers
Hah! The Peterson sisters were just having fun, Micki was probably thinking, "We're doing this song again?? Why is it so popular!" And, Hoffs is just giving those eye looks. 😉
This band is under-appreciated for as good as they were. I'm a big fan of Michael Steele. Class act and great voice and bass. I wish they were still around.
Every Bangles bass line is iconic. They are an example of being widely recognized but underappreciated. They were pop punk before pop punk was a thing.
Thats awesome!!!!! What a great Live performance. Youre a great band if you sound like the studio version when you play it Live. Lots of bands are just studio bands and cant sound the same live. Some of the biggest bands. They were just great. Whats really awesome is this was Recorded the day before my 6th birthday!!!!! Yay for me. Lol
My favorite 'girl group' of all time... hands down. They were all hot/ talented writers/ real musicians. Micki wrote such deep meaningful songs; I don't know why she soured on the business and quit, but hope she's well/happy. The others split up and tried other groups & solo, then eventually tried reuniting, but the magic was gone. Here's to you, Bangles... cheers!
@@thedriszen8350 and some tv shows have the artists who are to perform are just doing it to tracks and just pretend they are playing their instruments and only the vocals are live like doing karaoke. Worse is tv shows like American Bandstand where the artists is lip-syncing to thier own record. Live in concert The Bangles are awesome.
Miki and the rest of the band had a difference of opinion. During thier hiatus the rest of the band had gotten married and had kids. When the band reunited they did not want to do the same schedule as they used to as they were raising kids and husbands. After going thru a few fill-in bass players and even fill-in keyboard players the Bangles now tour with their original bass player from before Micki joined the band.
its not "live" lol druming empty,, one girl Whistles, but we hear the backing track,,,its mostly a backing track m8,,2nd song seems live,,,but its the keyboard player that is the best in the group yet gets no fame at all
@@minstrelofMir Totally live. Walk Like an Egyptian always used a drum machine. Also there are several different inflections by all 3 main vocalists. Compared to the studio version, the only thing exactly the same is the drum machine. 🤧😷😎😁
Micki Steele is the only True Wild Rocker in The Bangles. Like Kathy Valentine in The Go-Go's. The Bangles were a Golden Band in 1980's and became a Shitty Band in this miserable 21th Century. SHAME ON THEM! Ending the band at their peak of sucess in 1989 is MADNESS. Kicking off a super-talented musician such as Micki Steele is TOO STUPID. And not hiring a talented female bass guitar player is TOO CRAZY. F@#$ OFF their "male bassist". Take a look at their defaut picture in all their Social Media pages showing a photo of the 3 Suckers without Micki Steele. It's a fucking LACK OF RESPECT to their former band mate. It's UNBELIEVABLE how that 3 women could be so fucking ASSHOLES.
She probably burned a couple hundred calories a day just moving the eyes from side to side. I noticed in one instant that Vicky adopted the same mechanism -- or maybe Susanna got it from Vicky. For me, the most seductive element for Susanna is her voice - there's a natural sensuality springing from her vocals aside from some forward lyrics.
As a drummer I’m impressed by Debbi Peterson’s flawless groove. You can tell she’s a serious player. The harmonies are perfect, the whole group’s sound is spot-on accurate faithful to the recordings.
Thanks! This was great to see! Good to see Willard Scott & Chuck Norris to the left! When they came years ago to give a concert in a nearby city, I noticed Susanna Hoffs in the same lady’s clothing store I was in, I’m the huge mall we have! I had to do a double take! What struck me is how beautiful & how very petite she was! I couldn’t believe how tiny she was! Wearing her leather jacket & jeans. It was good to see this! I liked their music! ♥️
Jeremy Elliott I'm sure they appreciate that, but Joan should have known they weren't The Beatles. That a mistake someone in my generation or younger would make.
She's very annoying. I can only imagine her with Frank Zappa, who she said is the next guest. That could only prove to be patently absurd or down right painful, to behold.
You can always count on the noob to post the underrated comment on a band or musician who topped the charts during their time. They were constantly shown on Mtv from 1985 through 1989.
Yes, Michael was the best & most experienced, & oldest member of the band. When she retired in early 2004, she had been playing professionally for 25 years. She had taken a 4 year break from music, from the fall of '94 to the fall of '98. All totaled, including the break, Michael had been in music for 29 years.
I love that they sang live and didn't have to lip sync like they make you do on so many TV shows. Michael's awsome, but if you watch other complete live concerts, like at the Syria Mosque in Pittsburgh in 1986, you'll see that Vicki is a very solid lead guitar, as is Susanna on rhythm, and Debbi on drums. They may not be Jimi Hendrix, or John Lennon, or John Bonham, but they are pretty good.
Wonderful blast from the past. Remember sitting in a pub (1986) with a girl I liked listening to Walk Like an Egyptian", Debbie Harry, ZZ Top & Billy Idol. Ended up co-writing a song about her. She was worried (unnecessarily) about her size, so referred to her self as an Elephant. I wrote the music, my mate wrote the words. And Linda loved having a song written about her. Job done.
I had the hugest crush on her as a kid.... I went to see them live at Dorney Park back in the day... can't remember the exact year anymore but they performed songs from all albums. In your room was one song so I am guessing after this time of this interview.
Michael was indeed the best. Her prettiness, and beautiful songs made this world a nicer place in which to live.MAY God truly bless the dear girl for having done this. Her parents in Heaven,Nancy, and dad must be reallly proud that they raised such a fine girl as her.All my love, and Best Wishes for dear Micki.
They are all four beauties and talents. We miss Miky because she's conspicuously absent nowadays and her musicality gave weigh to the band, but they are all hot. Susanna is from other planet, indeed.
I truly love the old bands and old songs and old singers and actors. They are the greatest I miss them all so much and I'm thankful that I can watch them on RU-vid. " Walk Like an Egyptian" is one of my favorites I've been watching this video about a hundred times since I discovered on RU-vid. Also the song called "Heart of Glass "by Blondie I have been listened to this song about a hundred times in the last week. I hope all of them are happy today and have a long and good life. God bless them all.
I know! I love their music AND they are attractive to me! I love when women do their own thing and enjoy it! Every female rocker is a firebird. Chrissie Hynde, Joan Jett, Aimee Mann, Stevie, Christine, Lush, Go-Go's, Ronstadt, Susan Cowsill, Fanny, Ann & Nancy "❤" Wilson, Joni Mitchell, Sue Barton, Lucinda Williams, Johnette diNapolitano (sp?).....help me out here.......
I saw them bitd at Mud Island Amphitheater, a small outdoor venue that they rocked out. We were close to the stage and it was an awesome show. They're definitely one of my favorite bands ever. I had their first 3 albums memorized.
