Great video! My mothers family is Walton, and I have done research on the family name. Sir John de Walton also spelled de Wauton was indeed Lord of Mashamshire Argent Field = white/silver, a Chevron at the Nombril point Sable = black, and an Amulet in the dexter chief point of the Escutcheon = Sable. My information came from the The history and antiquities of Masham and Mashamshire by John Fisher 1865. Excellent painting, I'm jealous!

Excellent start on this project mate, I really like what you’ve done with the knights and the history behind them. Great painting, giving a very smooth cloth also. I enjoyed our live talk with Andy Hobday and Mark Farr and will hopefully be seeing Andy on Saturday. I look forward to the next one 👍

I just came across your channel. Your painting is amazing! Can I ask how you do your yellows? What's your recipe for painting? Also love how you white pops!
@stigofthedump181
@stigofthedump181 11 месяцев назад
For the yellow I used Averland sunset from citadel, shaded with skeleton horde contrast, then highlighted up with averland sunset with ivory from vallejo. I've found the trick is to keep the paint very thin in multiple layers, or you run the risk of the surface becoming uneven. Hope that helps, happy painting!

Small question. Did you just write the names on the bottom of the base? I like how that detail was included (on top of how fantastic the models look) and was thinking of doing the same for my own knights.
@stigofthedump181
@stigofthedump181 Год назад
Yes, I have just written the names on, I may make some proper labels though.
@robertfisher8359
@robertfisher8359 Год назад
Personally, I like having the names underneath. Btw, you asked about the minor knights. For the information I've been able to find (I've been doing a lot of digging for 12th-13th century knights and sergeants, since my forces are more medieval Germany, France, Italy, 3rd and 4th Crusades rather than England) the knights would still have the heraldry of their family. Sergeants would still have the heraldry of their liege (as the shields would be issued to them and bought/made at the expense of said liege). If you'd don'tmind some ideas, you could use the heraldry of some of the lords/knights from Brabant, Flanders, Holland (Brabant was renowned for providing the best mercenaries of this time, particularly spearmen). You can also make some Italians (Genoese crossbowmen were also quite popular, even if they didn't have their later iconic pavise shields), or some relatives from French holdings in Normandy and Aquitaine (the Plantagenets weren't the only ones with land across the Channel and the French roots seems to be very much forgotten by players). Where things got real weird for me was when I was working on some archbishops. The bishopric had 1 heraldry, but the bishop might be from a family that had its own coat of arms (such as when a member of House von Wittelsbach became Archbishop of Mainz). While it may be creative license, I'm putting the Wittelsbach heraldry on his shield, but the Heraldry of Mainz on his horse's caparison.
@stigofthedump181
@stigofthedump181 Год назад
@Robert Fisher interesting. I will certainly look at some of the French Knights, very good idea. Thanks.
