Lovely stuff! Front Frank miniatures from Gripping Beast do a medieval wagon drivers set. I think they’re a bit later medieval, but they might work for you.

Yes and yes. Think I prefer the metals to paint though! More forgiving than the detailed plastics imo! Just need to finish some Russian Napoleonic and then I’ll start. Going to steal your idea for the spears - they are pretty flimsy.
