Pinstriping 101. The basics covered with the 716CarGuys everything from types of paint to buy the best brushes to start with and some helpful tips on how to hold a brush
I’ve always helped younger guys into this art form, Monte Roach was one young guy that comes to mind, when I started this art form was very guarded by the pro Pinstriper’s, they would drop the brush and walk away rather than show the younger guys anything ! Being an Artist I’ve always helped anyone that is interested in whatever art form I’m involved in…
@@716carguys4 we sell my scroll brushes every day ,and I’m known to help younger (or older ) people get involved in a fantastic American art form, that can support them for a lifetime, while they have a ball performing the pinstriping anywhere, anytime, for $$$
Thank you this was an excellent video and you have definitely inspired me. I've always been a sketch artist and I've always wanted to learn the technique of pinstriping I'm old school I grew up in the 60s and 70s when Vans were a big thing, and I was first introduced to pinstriping but never pursued it, now I just purchased a 94 Chevy G30 and my plans are to practice on it. But thank you very much I really appreciate it, all your information.
How do you come up with a design? I have the skill to paint a line but I'm blocked when it comes to what to turn it into. Thank you for this tutorial! You and Hot Rod Jen have been incredibly helpful for learning even what brushes to buy. I ordered a brush and good pencils because of this video. Thank you!
You should have my scroll brushes ,not the poorly made copies that don’t work, and watch my videos (23). I’m her if you have questions, stay up on the tip, and have a blast!
@@stevekafka i like my kafkas want to get the whole set and the grid I know the sword brushes or traditional just have a hard time with them just more practice i know i seen where monty roach started out with kafkas
I had the same problem, so I took notes and sketched out how some lines meet and how others place C curves, S curves, and how different each design can start. I like to study a few videos a day and put together a design piece by piece from other videos till I can create something all my own. Good luck!
I've been at this 44 years I am old school one thing I have to say you are very down to earth I hope the younger people understand what you are sharing ,this is priceless .I live in pa if your ever in the area I'd love to come strip and help raise money with you
David, I’m done traveling, did it for many years due to all the copyists I had here in Phoenix, the artists here have zero integrity, and even less talent to create their own style, so they just copied me the best that they could, and the locals all thought it was me doing all this crappy looking work, I haven’t pinstriped anything in Phoenix in at least five years, sound bitter? Well it’s because I am.
I'm watching your video and extremely impressed with the gentleman your interviewing. His knowledge and Honesty is great . I'm 65years old and wanna learn about and how to pinstripe stuff . To what extent I'm not sure but your video was very helpful . Thanks I'll be subscribing for sure!

Fantastic ! Thanks a lot. I'm looking to do a long ( 6 foot ish ) coachline along the side of my Morris Minor. You've both inspired me to get the tools and have a go. Thanks a lot. Colin UK
I’m a navy veteran. Was stationed in San dog CA in the 80s. Picked up stripping for beer money. Got married had a family. Had to stop because family came first. I’m 58. In CT an picked it up again. Hard time running lines. Old hands have carpal tunnel. But get 30-40 minutes a day great therapy
I jus subscribed I was watching pinstripeing for a week now watching different videos n I’m a newbie to it so I’m still watching I’m goann be gettin into pinstriping too this video helped alot about what to get n what’s paints n all that good stuff jus waiting to get all Tha stuff I need hope to see more videos on pinstriping from you guys 🤙🏾
I am just discovering this art form and I’m loving it, although i have yet picked up a brush i am gathering some supplies, I would love a detailed list of the things he mentioned in his video and maybe even a list of things to avoid while building up my toolbox
Great video. I have been doing this for a little over a year. I think I’m biggest issue right now is trying to clean things up. I’m messy I just need to slow down a bit I guess. I do love it.
Thanks for making this video, I turn to painting often when the world gets the best of me as a coping mechanism as well. I've been practicing off and on for the past 4 years or so initially with an airbrush. At any rate I feel I still need practice before I go out and paint on someones machine. It's a skill. It's an art. Once again I'd like to thank you guy for this video because I have been kinda blindly going about learning and I get overwhelmed with all the different things like urethane low VOC, trying to do my homework ect and this was very helpful with brushes. I love my mack brushes and have been using no name liners that I have picked up from local craft stores for detail work. One last thing, I've primarily been using golden fluid acrylics (craft store stuff) for practicing and because I purchased it for canvas painting/airbrushing without so much fumes, are acrylics something that stripers are out there working with or is that kinda uncharted territory?
No problem!! We wanna make more of these videos and if we can help just a couple people it’s totally worth it mine and Rickys schedule are so opposite it’s tough
Acrylics are water based and used primarily on canvas to paint pictures, Pinstriper’s use an oil based sign painting enamels called one shot, usually sold in art supply stores ,thinned with mineral spirits ( Home Depot types stores) it’s exterior sign painting enamel.
Just got my stuff yesterday but couldn’t find more videos of him on your channel where do I follow him at I’d like to talk to him n thanks for sharing got me into it lol
HAY MAN GREAT VIDEO, I JUST PICKED UP A FEW STRIPERS AND IVE BEEN PRACTICING PULLING STRAIGHT LINES BUT I CANT GET ENOUGH , JUST HAD SHOULDER OPERATION SO IM OUTA COMISSION BUT I STILL HAVE MY LEFT HAND TO TRAIN........... JUST SUBSCRIBED THANKS FOR YOUR TIPS
The absolute best video on pinstriping lesson I've seen so far I'm way older than you and really want to get into pinstriping how do you know when you're good enough to start really pinstriping on cars or motorcycles thanks for the great video I also just subscribed
Hey fellas great content I’m a career woodcarver looking for a side hustle I’ve also tattooed for 15 years on the side. I was recently asked by my neighbour who is the service rep at the local bike shop if I could pinstripe and or airbrush, said the talent pool had shrunk in a big way and that it might be a good option for me. What do you guys think? Appreciate any feedback
This is a great video! Very helpful. I'm wanting to get into striping but not sure where to start. Would love to have Ricky's Instagram or Facebook to reach out to him. I'm looking forward to next video and would love to see him do a flying eye or pinup doll.
If your doing long line work try my long liner ,if your interested in design work get one of my scroll brushes and stay up on the tip, have fun with it…
For doing ol skool design work ,I use my number three scroller, tons of control, holds lots of paint, and once over the learning curve are a blast to use for everything but longlines. The copies of this brush do not work as well as the original at all.
If you want to start pinstriping and lettering, do some research with videos like this. Start with smaller amounts of paint and a few sizes of brushes. Then, practice, practice, practice and you'll get it. Learn how to take care of your brushes by cleaning and oiling them and they will last. You'll find there will be a hand full of brushes that are your favorites and work best for you and those will be the ones you use all the time, but you'll still have a box full of brushes you hardly ever use.
