Being very into traditional Japanese culture I did large Zen rock gardens in my front lawn area for the neighborhood to enjoy. Yup, the neighborhood cats really loved it too and I finally had to give it up.
My parents were zen buddhist and my serene childhood memories are standing and looking at the heavy weight slowly creating a spiral at our zen center. 40 years on, I have decided to create a desk sand garden with rocks and sand.
Been collecting and creating bonsai and suddenly found strong interest in zen gardens. Glad to find this video because you have many bonsai videos too. Thank you!
Omg I love this ending dude it's amazing we are all just really kids calling sand fancy so we can all just go play with it again, I was getting a bit of anxiety (maybe not the right word) just how to set one up but really changed my mind set behind the zen garden with that one line we are just kids Tryna have fun in the sand as adults
Aw so lovely! I’m going to try making one for when I’m in boring meetings. I saw the sand gardens in Kyoto and was not prepared for how intricate and creative they were.
Pretty fastinating love rake u got rock n ya cute sandbox that is nice it good vibration..high in the rock u lift up yaself love the way the sand fell it was play like a kid in a sandbox love ya concept of art!
I had a cat, just like Panther, when I was a child. Great cat, all black and built like a small panther. Used to love hiding in dark places and pouncing on passing people, and other animals.
Thanks Hiroshi, those are some excellent tips. One question, I have jagged rocks but I see that you have smoother rocks in your garden. Does the texture of the rock have to reflect on the type of landscape that you're creating?
again, what does that have to do with anything. its just a youtube comment, it was a shot in the dark whether I would get an answer or not. Why do you care?
Nothing in Particular It’s perfectly reasonable to think that someone knowledgeable in the comments might answer, even if it wasn’t who he was addressing the question to.
Great Video, Do you have any videos behind the history of this art form or any therapeutic benefits it may have? I have heard it can be calming. Also What kind of sand is that? It looks more coarse than normal sand. Any suggestions on a good starter kit to buy? I don't have the means to build my own box. Not where I live right now.
I would suggest DIY. Start with an old cardboard box, cut it to desired depth. Wrap completely in masking tape, inside and out. Paint. I'm going to attempt this with a box top that I have. Just realized your comment is three years old 😆 you may have a solution by now.
Where can I get a box like this with the framed bezel for my own zen garden? It looks nice and sturdy? My old zen garden died, the box, and I ran out of beautiful sand a friend sent me from her local beach. Thanks!
