I often think back of Layman gaming and I looking back now I can really tell how much influence Ralph had over the whole thing. No offense to sam of course, he is a great guy. Ralph just brought that dedication that I know find on his channel "Skillup" to which I am subscribed and really enjoy the News in Gaming and reviews. I like Layman, heck...I am still subscribed. It's a shame to see this channel be removed from that subscription list today. But I just wanted to leave this note here and express my thanks for the many hours of entertainment I got out of it. Best of luck to you both.

It was one of my favorite channels. I was shocked when Ralph was leaving but I can understand if he felt he was carrying two channels or not doing the kind of work he wanted to do (he apparently doesn't like being on screen and being a personality in that direct way.) It really exemplifies the end of an age. That anti-BF V backlash era was great, but I feel like it puttered out as AAA Gaming has gotten worse (in most respects.)

It's pretty obvious why. Ralph didn't wanna do it anymore. And Sam was always the goofy one, didn't really bring anything new to the table. Ralph was the brain. And he decided to work on SkillUp instead, which was the right choice. And he probably stopped doing LaymenGaming because it was actively hurting his reputation on SkillUp, killing his audience there because he was being redundant there and on LaymenGaming. It was a business decision. And then LG became financially nonviable and ended.

I miss this channel so much. It was the first channel I subscribed to and the first channel I watched daily. I like skillups news dump, but it’s not the same. The two bros dynamic and the memes were perfect. I wish we could at least get one final video for closure.

I use to see these guys pop up in my feed all the time, and noticed I haven’t seen them in a long while now. So, I decided to search and check and see what they’re up to, with the feeling they decided to close up shop. From the looks of it, thats exactly what happened… kinda sucks. I used to watch them whenever they did pop up in my videos. More so when the other guy was still there.

Yeah the channel began its inevitable decline when Ralph left. While they were both important to the channel, I think Ralph was a bit more serious minded and hard working. And you can tell because he's still doing his ShillUp (not an insult, he was called Shill Up on this channel many times jokingly) whereas Sam (his brother) is doing well with his own mortgage brokerage. I don't know that Sam will ever come back, real life jobs tend to soak up all of your time. But I do miss this channel and the memes. Interestingly, LG seemed anti-"woke" but Ralph is (or was) an unhinged leftist on his Twitter account so I sometimes wonder what's going on behind the scenes.

@Gamer Town Not to mention that Laymen Gaming just isn't interesting with sam. The dynamic between him and Ralph worked because Ralph was the professional, level-headed one and Sam was the inexperienced, big-mouthed, one. It's clear Sam isn't really that much of a gamer and doesn't know what he goes on about half the time, the dynamic is about having someone who does and someone who doesn't and watching them bounce off of each other's personalities and opinions to create a down to earth, funny but dynamic show. Instantly when Ralph left you could see Sam had no idea how to keep this going. He didn't have the same chops Ralph has with Skill Up and watching Laymen without Ralph became painful, without that dynamic it became the Sam show and it highlighted a lot more his flaws and weaker takes and opinions on things that reveal how inexperienced he actually is in this industry, it's night and day between Skill Up and this channel. He worked better with Ralph and also his opinions felt more formed being able to discuss games and films with him. They are both also a lot funnier together, it's way too try-hard with just Sam and anyone else he has with him is so, so much worse than Ralph, they don't have chemistry, it's just watching two blokes who look stoned half the time trying to talk about something they don't seem to really give a damn about anymore. They had their creative differences and that's why Ralph left to focus on Skill Up because he had far more success there, especially after his Nier review which cemented him into the games critic/journalism scene and his channel only took off more from there. Most flocked to Skill Up after the break up because Ralph was always the stronger of the two and had way more articulated, fully formed opinions on things in this industry than Sam did. I'm guessing Sam wanted them to lean harder into the comedy of the channel whilst Ralph wanted to be taken more seriously particularly with the connections he was starting to get and preferred going in his own direction versus staying with Laymen Gaming. Can't blame him, whilst I don't always agree with his reviews, Skill Up just makes great content and his weekly news round ups are some of the best out there on the platform, you could say he single-handedly beats IGN's whole team on both fronts, News and Reviews, just because of how straight to the point and honest he is. People will throw around "Shill Up" believing he is a shill for certain things though, everyone is usually, everyone has bias in this industry no matter how much you believe otherwise, everyone has their bias towards certain genres, gameplay elements, developers, even aspects like beliefs and political views can warp and shape your opinions on aspects of the industry, trends it chases, games it makes, etc. He is genuine with his channel and I'm glad between him, Alanah and the ex GG team now with Back Pocket, the Aussies in the space are definitely some of the best the scene has to offer, I just prefer them over others. Laymen could've only kept up if they matured the format without Ralph and worked on it harder but because of that inexperience and lack of any real substance they could offer due to how mostly surface level Sam's opinions often are (not his fault but he's definitely not engrained in the industry, that was his schtick, to be the "filthy casual" representative) it ended up undermining the channel as a whole and it bled viewership because it was overall weaker. I don't blame them for discontinuing it and parting with Laymen because it wasn't working out. I'm sure from time to time they'll visit if they really want to make a video about something but they're definitely never properly coming back regularly again, it's hard to revive a dying channel on RU-vid, it requires a full top to bottom rebranding and revival and even then due to the algorithm it is a hard fight to rebuild and get those views and subscribers climbing.

You have a ton of popular enough people that aren't that good or knowledgeable as others, the only difference is they upload stuff more than like 4 times a year.

But the chemistry made it work so it could be overlooked. As soon as Ralph left I was done watching this channel. If I wanted to hear shallow, surface-level takes, I'd just watch downward thrust.

If you need content that isn't as time consuming to make I would totally watch movie reactions from you dudes, playthroughs, etc. Gotta say I really miss the days when I'd see laymen gaming and skill up post at the same time. Skill up was the artsy fartsy half and laymen gaming was the fun laid back half. really miss that dichotomy. I enjoyed the movie. I'm digging Pattinson Batman - He gives a rendition of a Batman who is damaged and he knows it. I was able to buy his bruce wayne too cause of it. A guy who dons a cape and beats up criminals would likely be a type of person who Bruce is shown to be in the film, unable to separate himself from his mask. Yes i do miss the 'charming' Bruce persona you u are talking about, but we had that already multiple times, so this new 'bruce' and 'batman' take is refreshing imo. Note: Also becuase of the batman he portrays, the ending monologue about him being scarred like the city is, and how he needs to represent something more than vengeance for the betterment of the city (and himself) sticks for me

Glad to see you guys back even if it's occasionally. I think this version of Bruce Wayne being similar to Batman is on purpose and we will see him become the playboy millionaire Bruce Wayne we know as the trilogy continues. It does have me wondering how long of a time jump (if any) we see between the first and second film. IMO this movie gave us the best Gotham and possibly the best Batmobile entrance. The way that thing fires up and starts breathing fire and then the sounds of it going after Penguin were so good. It sounded like a monster coming after him!

I really loved the movie. What I like that it explored further than Nolan's version is the idea that Batman was inspiring the people of Gotham in the wrong way. He was too focused on striking fear into the criminals, without sending any hopeful message to the citizens, and that look he had when one of Riddler's followers said "I'm vengeance" really sold it for me.

They're not unfortunately. Sam's brother Ralph (Skill Up) confirmed that the channel is retired and Sam is now a mortage broker.

@@wotzaname I know it sucks. I literally only just found out this information through a skill up interview. Although I did watch a bit further into it and Skill Up said that Sam does still intend to make occasional videos on certain movie and game reviews, but they'll be very rare, like the Elden Ring review. So I guess it's not 100% dead. Just 99% dead.

they way you talk about how the movie looked basically described the comics. The movie nailed alot of the style of the best comics of batman and mixed it with over the top flare of the animated series.
