Are you planning to make ship breakdowns on the other ship classes present at the Battle? I'm kind of curious about the Matthew Cormier myself because while I can't make out what her ship type is, I'm guessing based on the fact that she's the first of her class and currently in a training squadron that she is a fairly new class. Though she isn't returning fire during the stern case, is she unarmed? If she is unarmed why did Sevilgard bring her along for his attempt rendezvous with CVS Sapphire instead of just leaving her at Fort Allencourt?

@@gerhardvancoppenhagen3608I agree that there should be more ship breakdowns. I like it how the ships of the Sojourn use physics like the Expanse, but design their ships like they were created with the mindsets before WW2. The REAL strength of line formation is simple: Even as the ships of the line sailed straight, they bobbed up and down. Therefore, the real line of battle is not a straight line or even a sine wave. But is is fact every ship fully using a dimension to dodge, as well as a second dimension for the same so long as its doesn't block line of fire for other ships. This, is why, in peace time, it should be a straight line. But during exercises when extra fuel and propellant allowed, it should be a sine wave. Or cosine if that is your thing. The line of battle is never straight. When you can dodge up and down, it is very obvious why you don't put ships in vertical sheets. You will get in the way of others who might want to dodge. So yes. In space. The line of battle is still important. Add up and down thrusters to your ships that are stronger than the port-starboard thrusters. At the cost of efficiency, as those up/down thrusters need to be treated as rapid response emergency thrusters to dodge incoming shots picked up by the sensors. In the Age of Water. We sail in lines. In the Age of Astra, we STILL sail in lines. Disclaimer, this statement applies to ships of the line. Smaller vessels that modify their doctrine have to still modify their own around this doctrine. The line itself is a chaotic wave-line in battle. Those who play point defense have to play their own game of dodging and weaving....
@SephirothRyu
@SephirothRyu 2 месяца назад
To put it simply, I just took the inspiration of lines of battle on a sea with waves on it... and said: "The traditional ships of the line bobbed up and down too. This in space is an evasion maneauver that needs room. So no fleet sheets." From there is just fleshes out.

The amount of technical detail-from astronavigation to reporting protocol/communications here is stunning! World building is superb-this feels like a real world where everything has history and backstories. I love the look of ships in this universe: the stunningly detailed models reminiscent of the Expanse, but with less asymmetry so everything here looks more organized and militaristic. I really admire your stories military professionalism and discipline. Certain… franchises have fallen into a trend of having people who work on spacecraft behave like emotional teenagers, emotionally melting down frequently and disobeying any order they disagree with whilst suffering no consequence. I’m strangely intrigued by the space station Fort Allencourt and Farbridge- both in their unique designs and histories- It’d be great if an official breakdown was done on the station. I like how the voice actor playing Sevilgard sounds like he’s constantly winded-I get the image in my mind of a morbidly obese aristocrat barely wedging his corpulent form into a command chair and struggling to keep breathing over his lethal cholesterol. I like the names of the vessels in this: CDF ships have romantic names whilst the union ships have more diverse names demonstrating how large and varied the participants of this war are. The battle itself was engaging: tactics, battle and severe consequence over more ‘hollywood’ style of space battle. I was surprised and amused at the mine field being eliminated by sand! If this was Star Trek the minefield would be neutralized by a ‘coherent Graviton beam’ or other technobabble. Though I am skeptical to how a minefield would work in space due to range issues and the possibility of the enemy simply shooting them at a distance. Unless they are stealth rigged or something. Overall, love this and would like to see much more!

The setting is a stellar cluster called the Tantalus Cluster, at the time of the main story inhabited by three main polities; the Merician Freehold, the Frontier Union, and the Centrum Assembly. This video takes place during the opening shots of the Frontier War, which saw the Frontier Union, fed up with a perceived lack of support for the outlying worlds from the central government, declare independence and attack targets within Centrum systems. The war would last ten years and consume so much resources that it created a cluster-wide famine that threatens the whole of civilization. The main storyline involves a long range expedition comprising of ships from all three states to a nearby nebula in a desperate search for new food sources. Near the end of the video here you hear a mention of an Admiral Farren, he’s the father of the captain of one of those ships, a privateering ship named Guinevere whose crew are the main characters of the story. It’s a great story to listen to, would definitely give it a recommendation

Just once I'd like the hero/ine for one of these space operas to be German, French, Italian, or Japanese using their naval traditions as a cultural baseline. Or having the 'idiot fat commodore' be female... just something to break up the tropes. None of this means I'm disappointed or annoyed by choices the author made here. I mean, if that’s the case then why haven’t all ships just try to take out each other’s bridges with a well placed shot? There’s no air or gravity in space so aiming shouldn’t be difficult. They really gave up a fortified position that could have been used as a staging point to sally out. I feel like this was a critical mistake on every level, only permitted to make the main character look good on paper. Would have made more sense if she had held out a system against an overwhelming force from a fortified position

I felt the stuck-up commanding officer kind of tropey and lazy writing. Still great content ofc but a bit disappointing in that one respect.

They were outnumbered. Their enemy had just taken out the flagship and the entire command staff. Plus, additional Union reinforcements were a lot closer to the system than CDF ones. It would have been suicide to hold out. What Hawker did was preserve CDF ships that could very well be crucial in the war to follow.

@@Grummar these kind of stupid mistakes happen in history all the time.
