it's crazy how daegon killing his parents,is one of the main reasons why shao kahn was able to take over edenia and merge it with outworld. and shinnok played a part in it. argus was suppose to be edenia's protector with him out of the way, shao kahn had a chance to easily take it.
this is why daegon, argus and even taven are incredibly important to the story yet in the recent games we havent gotten any of that importance acknowledged, only in some intro dialogues but obviously thats not enough, hopefully mk1 will atleast acknowledge these 3 characters and or better yet add them to the base or kameo roster.
It is likely that the battle between Taven and Blaze did happen. It could be either scenario- Blaze defeated Taven Shao Kahn defeated Blaze OR Taven defeated Blaze Shao Kahn Defeated Taven Either way, Shao Kahn obtained Blaze's power. There is a third possibility which is mentioned in Taven's ladder ending. Taven defeated Blaze but NOTHING happened (perhaps because the two solutions could be implemented only when Argus and Delia were alive. Their deaths may have rendered the solutions ineffective) And then Shao Kahn defeated Taven. It's pretty dark that Shao Kahn's victory is canon in the original timeline. Rare moments where the villian wins.
I’m not going to lie I kinda like it where the villain wins it shows that MK isn’t happy go lucky or trying to be Disney (I mean it never was and that’s why I love it so much it’s not afraid to kill main characters) and it shows that either good or evil could win not just one sided in Mortal Kombat.
@@Skye2993 That’s cool and all, but in this scenario, it was just a huge waste of time then. If it were any other moment, then I’d be fine, but Taven is the only logical victor here.
I like it how the end of this story is an absolute failure for the light side. I didn't expected that. It's sad, that they changed the style of the gameplay so much since MK 9. I really liked to wander the different realms and encounter the different inhabitants. I played a lot deception. :D
@@sophisticatedluna6503 I don't think that Netherrealm had the time to make a story chapter and konquest mode maybe I'm wrong but it would take much more time to make konquest
I have my own theory about Armageddon but I think taven did beat blaze but according to his ending it made everyone more powerful allowing shao kahn to emerge victorious
Nah because mk9 clearly shows Shao kahn with blaze's power, indicating he is the one who killed blaze,Taven either died,or he just gave up on the quest after killing daegon
@@SupportGamin2024 or it means taven killed blaze gained the power then shao khan killed taven and took the same power. We know it's possible to take the power from someone who killed blaze because it happens in kris and cobras endings
This installment is the only mk that gave me a headache. Lore was everywhere in this one for there it was.. the end of all things before midway got bankrupt. I was happy that my main character was added to the insane sixty characters to be in the finale but also at the same time it just felt really off to me. So thank you temple for sparring me from a exploding head fatality on this one.
I’m not the first person to bring this up, but idea that Shao Kahn, after being carried away by Onaga who knows how far away, was able to kill Onaga, run all the way back to the crater, ascend the pyramid, and either kill Blaze or Taven before anyone else could is more than a little ridiculous.
I really liked the Personalized Kombatant thing. I made a Spawn(tm) before Mortal Kombat 11. I also made a Liquid Ocelot, of course he was hit by a train in my storyline, a tad different then the way Guns Of The Patriots ended.
Honestly i truly think the battle between Taven and Blaze did happen. But however, When Taven defeated Blaze, his power only made the other fighters stronger. That's how Shao was able to kill Onaga and race back to the temple, kill Taven and steal his power. Also in Daegon's ending it was explained that Argus and Delia were still alive. Their deaths was actually a test to reveal the true intentions of their son. I don't care if it's not Canon, that ending proved that Argus and Delia weren't dead.
Thank you so much for these videos, the new MK movie got me hyped up about MK again and i just started playing MK X, after getting MK X and 11 on a sale. These videos are really great to catch up on the lore, especially since MK 9 isn't available anymore.
2 years later from this comment I find myself in the same boat lol. Movie resparked an old passion and now here I am, after purchasing mk x and 11 on sale! Thank you MK temple for all the lore vids!
I love that ive found a channel that actually takes MK lore seriously. I just binge watched from Deadly Alliance to Armageddon...question: was scorpion that unknown warrior that confronted Shujinko in the nexus? Who was that?
Yeah that's when they explain that Liu and Raiden are basically bound to fight each other over and over again in different timelines/universes. I want do to a video on the different timelines/universes, but don't know if I should finish the history videos first. I'm hoping I can get 1 video out a week this year.
Nice Summary of Armageddon's Konquest mode but I have a small crequite I would like to make. It would've been nice if you Also discussed the side plots of Armageddon's Story. For example, Johnny Cage is the One to rally the Forces of light after seeing Shinnok on Shang Tsung's Island ruins and Nitara and Ashrah forming their own Rivalry. How do I know this? Midway Released several Bios for Armageddon online even adding one for Kameleon in the Wii port. Still a great Video either way.
12:49 I seem to recall that Shinnok is completely realm-bound to the Netherrealm that himself cannot leave it at all unless with some great summoning magic found from the Heavens or Edenia, which is why MK4 focused on those realms. But this theory is good, he must have acquired new skills between MK4 and Armageddon, like to project his doppelganger across the realms to the Battle for Armageddon, for not even the Fallen Elder God could miss that opportunity.
Didn't MKX confirm that Kitana didn't die and she managed to kill Shao Kahn in Armageddon? I like to believe that ending is canon because it doesn't affect the new timeline.
Even with all the timelines I don't think Armageddon was prevented and it may happen again in a future game. The cause was never Shao Kahn or any individual character, but all of the characters becoming too powerful. They never really prevented Armageddon, even with the ending of MK11.
Honestly, that should've been the event of Mortal Kombat 11 story instead of Kronika BS or whatever. Like imagine if Blaze is the final boss with Revenant Liu Kang/Dark Raiden as Sub-boss
I would like to think both taven and shao kahn's endings are canon, taven after defeating daegon, becomes fed up with the quest, seeing as it destroyed his own family, his brother goes insane and kills their parents and now taven is forced to kill his own brother,I could see taven after all he went through just giving up on the quest completing just saying f*ck it all. No longer caring what happens to the realms, and this Ultimately gives Shao kahn the chance to Kill Blaze and win armageddon
I plan on covering the entire canon mk history (so that just excludes MK vs DC, Special Forces and Shaolin Monks). I've almost completed the history. Just 4 more videos to go.
That's the story they gave us if you beat MK Armageddon's story mode. But that isn't canon. Much like how they leaned towards the endings of Deadly Alliance having Kung Lao kill Shang Tsung. Even in MK11 the "best" ending turned out to be non canon after the release of Aftermath. We never really know what the ending is until we get the next game.
@@MKTemple that all stands... i was simply explaining that the strory itself became pointless once mk rebooted but really all of the past mk games are pointless if you look like that
Not true. It's not canon until the next game comes out. They've led us to believe the "good ending" was going to be canon in the past and then changed it.
I always took it as taven killed blaze but nothing happened so everyone killed one another until shao kahn and raiden was one of the last ones alive due to everyone having powers boosted hence tavens death and shao kahn nearly killing raiden
you think kronika was aware of the one being,I mean she has to right, since it was around before titans and elder gods,do you think Kronika was put in as the keeper of time after the one being's defeat. to make sure the realms stay in balance so no one good or evil could awake the one being, this could've been the real reason why she reset time so much, because someone was always close to awakening the one being(like shao kahn in the old timeline),she sent the amulet to dark raiden(old timeline)to give him a chance to stop kahn before that happened.
That's a awesome theory. Personally, I think she was always aware of the one being. Since she created Cetrion and Shinnok, maybe another Titan created the One Being? Even though the One Being has said to have always existed, so had the Elder God's until MK11. I'd like to see NRS explore these stories more.
@@MKTemple cetrion in a mirror match with herself calls the one being the God/Father of all gods,so I assume the One being is above kronika and titans as well.
Wait so tavens ending was non canon!? it doesn't make sense. Well in his ending he made all kombatants stronger so maybe it greatly boosted kahns power, killing taven. Makes more sense tbh.
Great summary of the game, and its lore. I did forget how Onaga was resurrected by Shinnock. I do think you forgot to mention that Taven did defeat Blaze, however the armor empowered all the of the remaining fighters, making them stronger. I do wish MK9 showed how he was defeated especially after becoming a full God, however I have to assume that an empowered Onaga and Shao Kahn were simply too much for Taven to fend off, even with the help of Dark Raiden.
My thing is Taven and Daegon was nowhere to be found in the beginning of MK9 intro like not even their bodies was shown we don't know what happened to them nor their mentioned until MK11 by Cetrion revealing they are dead.
1. Shao won through retcon because in the intro he was taken by Onaga and Score PN pointed this out in his who wasn't in the intro to Armageddon if you listen close enough you'll hear a chomp sound when Onaga grabbed him meaning he bit Shao kahn face so that fact that he won was B.S. 2. No Taven did survive along with Dagon, Shinnok, and Lui Spirit ( Side note how did Zombie Lui and Scorpion die. Scorpion is a spector he comes back. And how do you Kill a Zombie without decaping it).
@@dimensionduelist4149 There is a lot of the battle that is unseen. We basically see the beginning of the fight in the Armageddon opening cinematic and the end of the fight in the MK9 intro. Assuming the battle lasted some time, Kahn could have broke free from Onaga and came back to the battlefield. You mention a "chomp." I've listened, I don't hear a chomp. There's a "squish" sound, but even still that doesn't necessarily mean he "ate Shao Kahn's head" or whatever. In the opening of MK9 we see a bunch of characters lying in the same positions they were killed in during the MKA cinematic. We even see Liu Kang's hooks still in Shang Tsung's shoulders. Personally I think the team did a pretty good job of connecting the Armageddon story and OG timeline to the new timeline. We've had plenty of MK games that didn't end the way we thought they were going to. Aside from this, there's MKDA and MK11. None of the character endings gave us the "True" ending of Deadly Alliance, it wasn't until Deception that we found out what happened. MK11's "good" ending was proven to be false once Aftermath came out. Who's to say Raiden didn't defeat Blaze in a long outplayed battled giving Shao Kahn the time he needed to get back to the battlefield.
It is theorized it is exactly because they were far away that Shao Khan, having to worry about only one oponent, managed to finish the fight and live to tell the story, returning to the Pyramid right when all of the chaos was at its end.
So the real answer is probably that Jax's MKDA ending isn't canon, BUT most of the MK community accepts this as canon because he's so hated as a character (and because the ending is badass). There is really no explanation for how he returns. Even in the MK Fandom wiki his story reads "Hsu Hao inexplicably returned in Mortal Kombat: Armageddon..."
@@MKTemple thank you, I watched your entire mk lore video then when I got to Armageddon I was like "wait he died, but maybe they give an explanation" but nah nothing. Thank you though for giving the best answer you could find. And I'll probably just continue to accept Jaxs ending as canon just because it's awesome
To me, Armageddon is the least appealing storyline. I was mostly disappointed with the choices they made for the main storyline of the supposed culmination of Mortal Kombat. Sure, the series gets rebooted and dives a little deeper into the characters while still maintaining a sense of continuation, but after building up to the giant epic final battle between good and evil, and everything the series has gone through with insightful lore, the characters--which that we've grown to love--get sidelined to make way for an entirely new protagonist that we've never seen. I was hoping that Liu Kang would reunite with his body and save the day, similar to the climax of MK11, or something. Now, I didn't _hate_ Armageddon. The gameplay is decent despite it being yet another repeat of Deadly Alliance and Deception, but if the storyline is supposed to be the final battle for the friggin' universe, then it should've had a lot more to do with the main heroes, which were recently brought back after the battle against Onaga from the game before. It would be like if Return of the King focused more on a random traveler who interacts once with Frodo and Aragorn on separate occasions only to later observe the Battle of the Black Gate from afar; it just wouldn't fit with the rest of the installments that came before it.
COMPLETELY AGREE! Armageddon is one of my least favorite MK games for this reason and also for the reason that I felt like they focused on the adventure mode and not core fighting mechanics. Also, the exclusion of individual fatalities was a big let down, made the game feel kind of cheap. I was also upset that the game didn't feature any ending images, just that voice over with the character on the top of the pyramid. Top it all off with a storyline who's supposed canon ending was retconned in MK9... Just felt like a huge step back after DA and Deception
Kind of. The One Being tried to return through characters in the past. Most notoriously through Onaga's return in MK Deception. It's alluded to that after Shao Kahn wins Armageddon, he merges all of the realms together allowing the One Being to return which brings an end to all reality.
Good question but no they are not. Rain is a self proclaimed prince. Rain is also a Demi-God his father is a god (Argus) he had an affair with an Edenian civilian woman. Kitana's parents are Jerrod and Sindel so they aren't related.
I love Taven’s Dragon’s name, Orin. ‘Orin’ is what urine-drinking enthusiasts refer to their own urine as…and he’s also yellow. Coincidence? I say neigh.
I might get hate for this, but I am one of the few MK fans that thinks MK9 is a little overrated. It's not as good as people remember. If you try going back and playing it after playing X and 11, it is CLUNKY. Also the voice acting is straight up bad and the cinematics are stiff... 🤷🏻♂️
Nightwolf actually removed the bond between Kitana and Kang's soul and bonded it with his own, but I left this out because it doesn't really have a huge impact on the overall story and since there are so many characters in Armageddon the video would be very very long if I went into all the character arcs.
@@MKTemple Oh, I thought it was the other way around(he was initially bound to Wolf and then Kitana). Alright, I understand. Why Liu specifically us because he won MK1-4 tournaments basically, and for the bad guys to win they had to kill him first in DA. So his presence on the battlefield should have made an impact, you get what I'm implying? Shujinko too, I guess.
someday they will tell us who tf killed Taven? he fcking destroyed allmost all of the cast in armagedon but when he lose they didn´t show it, thats absurd
So Blaze held immense power that would be bestowed upon whoever defeated him in Armageddon. Check out my videos The Fall of Edenia, The Deadly Alliance and The Return of the Dragon King for some more information on him.
Honeslty it was suoer lame that MK9 completely wreaked Taven as a character I know he wasn't super popular but he was set up as this powerful dude and then he just gets killed off screen without a mention and Shao Khan is made the winner
I really miss the 3D era of MK. i know the story and roster got bloated but to me it was at least interesting. The new era since mk9 has just been kinda meh. The characters have been interesting but story is just...meh
@@MKTemple ohh okay! Thank you for replying, i often get confused when learning about all this, Can i ask another question? Whats the difference between gods and elder gods? Sorry for being a pain i just want to scrape up every bit of lore possible! Thank you :)
Not a pain at all! The Elder gods are the creators of the realms they oversee all the realms. Gods are below elder gods they oversee individual realms. Raiden and Fujin are gods of Earthrealm. Argus is a god of Edenia.
