The problem there is findong a copy I can use legally (the *compisition* is in the public domain, but most *recordings* are not), and then hoping the automated content ID system doesn't erroneously identify a match and prevent me from monetizing the video. But also, the Dettingen Te Deum is a triumphant piece, and would clash with the ending I gave the video, which is about the ultimately senseless loss of life.
I first learned about this battle because of my family's genealogy, and Handel's composition - my last name is Dentinger, which may have originated in Dettingen. Thank you for this video.
The poppy is actually a reference to loss of life in war: poppies grow well on battlefields (they grow on soil that has been churned), and since the end of WW1 they have been used as a symbol of remembrance: even today the British wear poppies for Remembrance Day, November 11th. That's why Blackadder used the image of poppies for that last scene, and why I also used one. But the other Blackadder reference is the font I used on the maps.
You monetize a video with no views at all, and hope that the views come rolling in. Sometimes they do, sometimes they don't; it depends on many factors. Sometimes a video gets embedded on a popular website, sometimes RU-vid promotes it, sometimes it happens to come top in a currently popular search. But even if it never goes past 250 views, it's still a few cents. I have over 350 videos, it all adds up. As the Germans say: "Even small animals make manure."
We need more documentaries of this period, too many documentaries on the age of muzzle loading muskets cover the Napoleonic Wars and to few others such as the 7 years War or the wars of the Spanish ands Austrian Succession.
Wow! i think I just witnessed the first of many, many historical accounts of Europe. Seriously, this is your niche!! I think everyone loves to see locations and I think everyone loves European history so there's your show!!
fantastic channel - hard video to find about the battle of dettingen - l´ve downloaded Bach´s Dettingen Te Deum which l love and the text speaks about this battle and l was willing to know on its history - up to now l found in your channel + subcribed + downloaded +thumbs up cause it´s a very rich and intelligent channel - God bless your life, dear.
Wow, back when I was in school in history class, I was always intensely bored by the whole subject (at least until the curriculum had reached the second half of the 20th century). But the way you told this story, it actually wasn't so bad at all!
Brilliant analysis! I read so many wrong things about this battle (unnessecary, to forget etc). But studying the plans it is evident, that everything was as You explained. Noailles plan was great. A classic encirclement, and George II. was a lucky idiot. ThX 4 ur gr8 job. By the way: I am Bavarian, so it was unfortunately, that the plan didn't work.
I'm well aware of the poppy symbolism but the image of a single poppy in a field of grain conjures up images of private Baldrick and the lot. And now I'm off to rewatch this video, paying more attention to the fonts ;-)
I liked this excellent video a lot. Historical facts? Check. Entertaining impersonation (not too much)? Check. And an ending with a moral, giving the audience a philosophical bit to take home and chew on? Check, check, check.
Well-done video and informative, thanks for sharing. Goes to show how good the British and the Germans are at war and how lousy the French are with it. 😁
