The Battle of Honey Springs, which took place on July 17, 1863, was the largest Civil War engagement in Indian Territory. Also remembered as the most ethnically diverse battle in the Civil War, the Battle of Honey Springs was fought by Indigenous, Black, and white soldiers. The tribal nations of the Muscogee, Cherokee, and Seminole divided, joining both the Union and Confederate armies. The First Kansas Colored Infantry Regiment was the first Black regiment in the Union army. Of the 9,000 who fought, approximately 200 total casualties were suffered. After a decisive Union victory, Confederates lost control of Indian Territory north of the Arkansas River.
“The Battle of Honey Springs” was written and directed by Oklahoma native Bryan Beasley and produced with support from the Friends of Honey Springs Battlefield, the Inasmuch Foundation, and the Oklahoma Historical Society.
Walk the historic battlefield and view artifacts that tell the story of this momentous event at Honey Springs Battlefield, located east of US Highway 69 between Oktaha and Rentiesville. Learn more at www.okhistory.org/honeysprings.

It was a pleasure playing a small part in bringing this movie to fruition. I heartily recommend to anyone who has an interest in civil war history that you go see this battlefield. It has been beautifully preserved and maintained. Every two years (the odd numbered years) there’s a full reenactment. Y’all come out and see us.

Great report. Interesting way to portray history of an event, by having the players speak from their perspectives.

One minor complaint: General William Lewis Cabell was my great-great-grandfather, and his family pronounced their name as CAB-ul, not cab-ELL. ~ Richard Lemin

the people in power now are far more evil than anyone in the south was. The union made sure America would be owned by banks and corporations for centuries to come. Were all still slaves with the illusion of choice

the union only cared about freeing slaves when the south wanted to secede... what about the freedom of the irish that lincoln forced to fight the second they got off the boats from ireland?
