Today, we have personal computers, the internet, texting, cellphones and landline phones, fax machines and so many other modern 21st Century communication technologies that cause news to travel around the world in a split second. If the world of 200 years ago had these kinds of communication technologies we take for granted today, the Battle of New Orleans would never have happened. This is because of the Treaty of Ghent, signed between the U.S.A. and Great Britain, the War of 1812 was already over. But, in the early 19th Century, it was impossible to have spread the news about the War of 1812 being over in time to have prevented the Battle of New Orleans. News traveled very slowly back in those days. Just imagine Andrew Jackson smashing his laptop computer and throwing his cellphone in a fit of rage at not being able ot get revenge on the British for what happened to him during his youth! This would make a great skit for Saturday Night Live!
I can tell these people are very underrated this is the best cover I have heard of a Johnny Horton song mainly because not many know of him but this is 100% amazing
Thanks for posting this. Back when I was a kid in the 60s my dad and friends used to get together and play songs on the weekends. This was one of my favorites back then. I would call it “the alligator song”. As my dad passed away a few months ago, this really brought back good old memories.
Great version, fellas! This song always spoke of that true American spirit I revered as a boy in the '60s....well before the orange man came an' tore you in two.
ABSOLUTEY OUTSTANDING!!! I've been listening to Horton's song since I was kid in the early 70's and this one doesn't have to take a back seat to the orginal ONE IOTA! BRAVO fellas!
I was born in 1956. So I wish Johnny Horton did not die too soon in 1960, in the tragic car accident, and he lived a full lifespan. If Johnny Horton lived a full lifespan, there is an excellent chance I would have been able to score tickets to have seen Johnny Horton perform live in concert, and just imagine how many more wonderful songs Johnny Horton would have performed if he lived a full lifespan!
Seems I have discovered the Garrett family music channel. Y'all can't escape, this is gonna have to go on Tales of the Trails at some point. Glory to Andy Jackson.
