DIXIE'S LAND

Back in 2010, Ryan Kelley of Intersection Films asked us if we would contribute our treatment of “Dixie’s Land” to be the opening of the film documentary that Ryan and his partner, Trent Reeves, were making about the classic Dan Emmett song. We were flattered to be so considered and of course readily agreed. We rendezvoused with the film-makers during the July Gettysburg reenactment that year and filmed our all-acoustic, all-authentic period instrument version.
It took quite a while for Intersection to get the piece completed, but in 2017 they were finally able to get it screened on various individual PBS and other TV broadcast stations across the country, as well as in various college and university settings. Intersection Films’ “Dixie” is an interesting and entertaining piece - clearly relevant in today’s turbulent and politically charged atmosphere.
Unfortunately, the full documentary is no longer available, but a ‘revised trailer’ may be found on RU-vid: • Dixie Documentary Revi...
We are presenting here the full recording made that day, which Ryan generously provided to us at our request. We feel it’s especially appealing due to its relaxed and comfortable air, yet vital and energetic presentation. It’s just plain FUN ! It is our hope that when watching, folks can put aside any prejudices they might feel and simply try to enjoy this classic American song in the context of the period.

What I love about this song, is that in WWI 1917 when the first american soldiers were getting off the boat in England/ France in preperation to attack Germany, the bands that were hired to greet them, played this song, as they were unable to think of a song that better represented the States at the time, not because of any racial reasons, but becasue it was unusually upbeat considering the state our country and in turn the world was, yet our attitude was unwavering, and to the Europeans, they saw no difference between north and south, Yank or Dixie. We were just the crazy bastards happy to go to war for them, and considering this and the union version were representatives of our bloodiest war, saw it fitting to play it for us.

This sort of thing will not be legal in 40 years. The Stars and Bars is already restricted, ,, will be prohibited within 20 years. Blatant expressions of White Southern Culture will follow close behind. Statues , symbols , songs, artifacts, even true History will be either modified to fit the agenda,,, or eliminated completely. The South will fall to the Agenda of Rejection and Repentance for all aspects of Western Civilization.. It's a World Wide phenomenon driven by demographic replacement. The Waves of Replacement on a global scale, are relentless. White women = below replacement fertility POC= just open your eyes and look around, you will see the future.

@reasonablespeculation3893
@reasonablespeculation3893 4 года назад
The Northwest Imperative gets Bad Press (supremacism, Nazi, murderous, hatefully Whites),,or NO press at all. So bad start right there. The entire Great Replacement conversation has been dismissed as the ridiculous hallucinations of privilaged Whites. Currently no Governmental Authority, whether Local, State, Federal, will tolerate even a designated White School District, ,let alone a White Region. A single All White School would not be tolerated. A grassroots movement to the Northwest may gain some traction. But in an environment of strong POC activism(sanctioned by Gov, Corporations, and private donors),,,, and weak, unrecognized, silenced or even Outlawed White activism, any progress made will be broken up by forced integration. Parts of Eastern Europe seem to be the only possibility for a future White Homeland.. The UN and EU will fight hard to stop it..

Aiden Hall It’s a good song but what it represents because of movements after the war like the white league makes it something to be disdained, much like how the battle flag of the army of northern Virginia is a good flag but because of what people used it to represent after the war it became very much a symbol of oppression.

i think that many people often associate this song with racism due to the fact it was made for minstrel shows. some versions of the song do actually have lyrics that support abolition but the original was supposed to be for a black face performer talking about how, despite being freed, he wants to go back to the plantation i do genuinely like the song but i cant support many of the racist views the song originally intended

"DixieLand" History: "Although known as a Southern anthem, “Dixie’s Land,” aka “Dixie” was written for the minstrel stage by Daniel Decatur Emmett in New York City. The song was so popular in the South that it became generally accepted as the rallying song of the Confederacy. Abraham Lincoln loved the song since he first heard it at a show by the Rumsey and Newcomb Minstrels in Chicago in 1860. According to a fellow attorney who attended the show with him, after “Dixie’s Land” was played, Lincoln clapped and shouted “Let’s have it again! Let’s have it again!” Edit: I made a mistake about the roots of the Dix (and I knew better). Thanks to Ted Lawrence for reminding me. "DixieLand" comes from The Citizen's Bank of Louisiana, chartered in 1833. The bank issued 10-dollar notes, with the red colored notes printed with the French "dix" ("ten") on the back. They were known as "dixie" notes and were traded especially in the cotton trade up the Mississippi. To have a pocketful of Dixies meant you came from New Orleans and had sold your cotton. Up north, they knew "DixieLand" was down south where they traded in "dixies".

@Messenger Colombia is a mess politically, in the past the country suffered from centralism, then came the separation of Venezuela and Ecuador and later a civil war. Then the government decided to split offices only between the two main political parties to end the war and the commies got angry, but most importantly, they've also got a nice argument to use as a banner for people to join their cause - corruption and a new oligarchy. Their arguments where real, the government was truly corrupted, but their objectives as a faction where socialist crap. Then came the bandorelism criminals and later the everlasting guerrillas supported bot by Cuba, Venezuela, Ecuador (for some time) and even Nicaragua. The conflict has been long and violent, the commies lost support. But the governments from the right are into way too many corruption scandals, they own a lot of land and distribute a lot of tax money into their own families, so the left is gaining way too much support, those idiots don't think about politics but of some sort of revenge. And their populist representative is as corrupt as their counterparts in office, even worse as he was an ex-guerrilla member and the destitute mayor of Bogotá for not doing actually anything and messing up with the city. It's confusing speech is what has many people who seem to suffer from amnesia supporting him What's left clean of the country's political environment are the Center and Center-right parties. The rest is a bunch of chimpanzees who only use the congress to throw rocks at each other and sleep rather than to do something useful for the country. But you know, as Plato criticized democracy for most people to choice sofists, populists and clowns as leaders rather than actual politicians, philosophers and people with actual knowledge who are truly commited to that charge. For now our country is a polarised mess and advance is slow. We don't need more liberalism or left policies, we just need to end corruption and the conflict will be over.

Not from the south (I grew up in Maryland and I live in Washington State), but I love southern culture, food, and history. We can't let our history and culture die. Heritage and tradition are under attack today, and people will call you a "racist" and try to make you feel guilty or ashamed for supporting your people, your country, and your heritage. But those are not good people, and you should never trust someone who says you come from a culture with a legacy of stupidity, ignorance, violence, and racism. All cultures have a history of greatness and history of brutality. The only way we can learn from the past and improve our future is if we're able to talk about our history and the great (and not so great) people who got us to where we are today. Everyone has a right to explore their identity and heritage. God bless the south, God bless America, and God bless anyone working to understand and preserve their culture wherever they are in the world.

it's very unfortunate what i happening here. many blame the media for pushing false narritives since 2015 and others blame the democratic leaders literally allowing this rioting to happen. but i blame the poorly informed people who are taught that violence is the answer. little do they know that the more damage they cause and non stop finger pointing will make trump win by a land slide victory. i can only hope less innocent people are hurt and less property damage occurs before peace is restored.

@@dankestvonmemen76288 you seem like a smart fellow, so I will share my unbiased knowledge on this song. This was actually a popular concept for propaganda used by the confederacy.

At the end of the day, this song and the time it came from are part of Americas history; it doesn’t have to represent the America that she is now, but it’s good to know where we came from and for us to understand her history. History shouldn’t be thrown away because it’s bad, or doesn’t represent today’s perception of the country, history should be studied so that we don’t repeat the mistakes that we made in the past.
