saw them free in front of Niagara Falls NY Casino '05 and they said if they had known they would still be singing these songs today..they would wrote them in a lower key lol
T DRIT i didnt see him get choked up - i saw him sing a perfect song, while maybe not feeling his best. Looked like it may have been too hot in there. I love that guy - love his music.
Taylor Gibson He did sing a perfect song. I agree but towards the end, he had a slight moment where he had to pause. He's a wonderful musician and I feel really bad that he went through so much shit.

July 2 2003. I was 11 years old. My family had friends over, people were swimming in the pool. My mom brought out a little boom box and started playing music. It was a Beach Boys greatest hits CD. I heard it from inside the house and it stopped me dead in my tracks. I grabbed a different CD, went outside, switched the CDs and took The Beach Boys one inside for myself. I sat in front of a stereo listening to it for hours. Life was never the same. Man, this music is something else. Never gets old.
I listened to that song during high school in the 60's and loved my little surfer girl. She would sit on the beach and watch me surf. What incredible times and I am grateful for them.
All the people jokeing about brian looking disinterested clearly dont know what a life he has had and dont know they are watching a true genius at work
@Friendly Neighborhood Moron exactly.... Mike Love treaded on the coat tails of Brian and his late brother... sorry can't remember the brothers name...
The Beach Boys are my favorite bank of all-time, and this is my absolute favorite song of all time. Just over two minutes of perfection. Brian said it was the one time he found unconditional love in his songwriting.
No shaking. No makeup. No amps. No voice correct. No sound effects. Nothing- but genius. Ty Brian- most of the world just doesn’t get it-their misfortune.
Surfer Girl, with 7-part harmony, unplugged, and Brian Wilson in good voice. What could possibly be better?? But what really moved me is when Brian got choked up during the very last chorus. Check out Mike Love's reaction to him... priceless. Thanks for the memories :)
I think you can tell that Brian really misses his brothers in a lot of these reunion videos. It must be really hard for him to perform with the guys because remembers how it use to be and they're his brothers..:( R.I.P. Dennis and Carl Wilson. God bless you Brian Wilson.
Perhaps one of the reasons for Brian's seeming melancholy is that, with the exception of the bridge which was always his part, he is now singing Carl's part on "Surfer Girl." He knows he can no longer hit the high notes, and he knows Carl's part is where he is now needed.

The gentleman on the right is David Marks (AKA The Forgotten Beach Boy) who was on the first few Beach Boys albums, but apparently couldn't stand Murray Wilson so badly he quit the band, before Al rejoined. David has survived a lot and seeing him back in the band is wonderful, almost as wonderful as seeing Brian. It's tragic that Carl couldn't be here and Dennis, well Dennis was probably never going to grow old, but I know Brian misses him every day. Thanks for posting this - it's just what I need to see and hear today.
Brian's pain is evident at about 2:00 and acknowledged by Mike Love. As I understand it, the Falsetto piece at that moment was written for Brian's brother, Carl, who had passed. Al Jardine's son Matt does a fine job but Brian's tears are telling. I was truly blessed having grown up with this masterpiece.
@@heathervelasco5159 No man, im a musician, and i can hear when he forgot his part... i know he misses his brother, but it´s not the reason on this video...
My god I'm getting goosebumps, that was just the most sublime thing I'll ever hear, just makes my day everytime I hear these guys sing. They still have all that youthful energy.
Just found this video…..ah Brian Wilson, there is no one like you on this planet. Absolute genius. My two favourite songs, God Only Knows and Surfer Girl, have some of the best harmonies ever written and performed. Thank you, Brian ❤❤
I feel it takes them back in time to when they were young . That life goes by in a blink of an eye . This has to be one of the best modern performances from The Beach Boys.
Brian wrote and recorded all the parts to this song himself, then presented it to his band. They were amazed and humbled, according to their biographer. And good to see David Marks on the end, he was in the band when this was first recorded
This made an old man tear up, a beautiful song, takes us back to being a teenage baby boomer, there never will be period of time to grow up in like this ever again..
brian critchley To actually possess the experiences inside himself, that became the life memories he made for all of us, it's just overwhelming. This man helped shaped popular culture.
Sounds great, they always do wonderful harmony. I'm in my late 60's, and therefore was lucky enough to grow up with The Beach Boys, Beatles and many other top artists.
They are a great singers I was raised on their songs and they are beautiful and they still are doing a good job especially the song suffer girl I love it
Ladies and Gentlemen. What music was before The Beatles and Yesterday! Microwave ovens and before THE Vietnam war came along. 7 part family harmony. You will never see or hear this type of music again. American Icons. Brian, The John Wayne of American Music.Long live the Beach Boy's. R.I.P. Carl and Dennis! Shawn
@@wannes2888 Chuck Berry ? Yeah he basically created a genre and he was amazing but he ain’t one of the best songwriters to ever live mate 😂 listen to his discography alot is the same Nowhere near the level of those lot ^
Thank the Good Lord...🙏🙏🙏 I grew up listening to absolutely phenomenal music like This in the 60s and 70s...! Because my kids have absolutely nothing of value when it comes to music that they can hold close to their heart that actually has meaning and a story behind it........! Prof. Jeff Galey🎓
If I may... I think it may be because the boy figure singing the song is enamoured with the girl's feminine beauty - an innocent appreciation and love for her, not just a crazed hunger for her curves. Something every girl wants to be loved and wanted for, no?
***** Yeah, thanks for the clarification. I saw that after I had posted in some of the previous comments. Still might have been the origin of the strange look on Brian's face though. Whether that or something else, my experience tells me he heard something that wasn't quite pleasing. So is Jeff Foskett the guy with the fireburst or the blonde guitar?
Got it. Thanks. In any event, Brian sure doesn't look too happy to be there. Not sure why, but there is lots to speculate over. It looks and sounds like the vocals were prerecorded and they are lip synching. The voices of the actual BBs seem to be buried in the mix. They are getting on in years, and their voices are not what they once were. Perhaps that disturbs the perfectionist in Brian. Al is not holding a guitar and seems to be uncomfortable about that. Brian and Mike are right next to each other and do not even seem to acknowledge each others' existence. Not the way I prefer to remember the BBs.
Except he fucks up at the beginning...Looks like they agreed to skip the intro vocal part and go right into the verse...but Brian starts with the "Aaaaahh" vocal intro 😀
... and the high part at the end. But a little dubbing is OK with me. 2:09 no one is singing the high part, I assumed that was to be Brian's falsetto... but I've been wrong before
The guy behind Al Jardine and Brian Wilson is singing the high parts. He does this for a lot of the Beach Boys and Brian Wilson concerts... I just can't remember his name. xD
This takes me so far back, and as someone else mentioned, Brian was in good voice. Looking back over these comments, over and over, "Brian is a genius, Brian is a genius, Brian is a genius,"
What fool puts thumbs down to these icons of music. Beach Boys was and will always be awesome, they gave the world music magic, (with the brilliance of Brian Wilson) that took people to a great place. Luv them, their sound for ever.
I'm 75 baby-sitting by 7 month old GREAT GRAND SON, who was fussing; I played Surfer Girl; He stopped crying-a slight smile emerged; these guys were the best!!!!!
Never tire of Surfer Girl... one of the greatest harmony songs ever...along with the video of those gorgeous girls surfing...timeless and grabs me over and over
I’m 71 years old and that song is in the top three favorite songs in my whole life. I saw them in person in 1969. I am a personal friend of a guy who played with The Beach Boys for a year and six months. He created an opportunity for my wife and I to meet Bruce Johnson and Mike Love on their 50th Tour (All Summer Long). The Beach Boys album “Pet Sounds” (Brian Wilson’s greatest compilation of music is my favorite album of all time.) They have stood the test of time.
I'd rather listen to this than any of the so-called music today. A song released 53 years ago sounding as good as it ever did. Brian Wilson is a musical genius.
Good music is still being released, but it tends to be everywhere but the mainstream. The Beach Boys were a popular band with amazing talent and longevity whose music is still as relevant and touching as it ever was. Brian Wilson is, truly, one of the great composers of our era-- on par with Beethoven or Mozart.

Is he really a genius? That would mean John Denver and Marty Robbins are geniuses as their production and quality were as good as Brian's. I have never been a big BB fan as I felt their music was too "clean", lacking the R & B that I love about rock and roll. (ie Rolling Stones) But in terms of musical composition, I can see where some people will call him a genius.
@Cobb Knobbler Which singer/songwriters in the last 70 years would you call a genius?. For me, it would be Bob Dylan or Marty Robbins, with Marty being slightly better.
Wow, '74 in my college dorm with soccer buddies getting stoned, playing hearts, drinking Busch beer, and listening to Pet Sounds...what a great time to be into music.
Thank you Brian for being there. The journey has been tough. I miss both your brothers Dennis and Carl. I grew up with the Beach Boys and the Good Vibrations continue. Love to all.
I’m am 20 years old and these guys are my favorite group of all time. I heard them for the first time when I was only 10 or 11 and it was like my whole world changed. I just think that is a testament to their timelessness.
About a month ago The Beach Boys played a live concert in New Orleans at the Saenger. They were great and the big surprise was Al Jardine's son who sang like one of the original members. Total enjoyment!
As great as they still sound, there are 2 things missing. Carl and Dennis. When Brian had his issues Carl stepped up and became the backbone of the beach boys. Now that Carl is gone, Brian is returning the favor.
Even though I’m only 25, this brings back so many memories I wish I had to have lived through this era. Can’t believe these guys still have such incredible vocals.
