The Bear 100 miles Ultra Marathon was my last trail running ultra marathon this year! A great adventure running the trail of Utah on this mountainous point-to-point ultra marathon - a Hardrock qualifier.
Curious about the trail running gear I use and recommend: check out this link
linktr.ee/runn...
Only 3 weeks after my last race, my body is starting to feel the accumulated fatigue of racing 11x 100 miles ultra marathon this year (and 23 over the last 23 months). But it was an amazing adventure filled with gorgeous landscape, and a very well organized race.
Something special was that I had the pleasure of sharing dozens of miles with Fanny one last time this year! Fanny and I both race the Grand Slam in 2022, and our schedule overlapped this year also, at Badger, and The Bear. She was also pacing me for Badwater! What a great way to wrap up the season!
Now, this isn't my last RACE of the year - we're also racing Javelina 100 miles next month. But that's not really a mountain race, so it's a bit different - more of a desert race. And when I say "we", I really mean "we" - as in Mark, LeAnne, and Nora! Wowza! And Brian will be there too :)
Thanks for watching!

What a gorgeous race, and excellent video! You were so right about the colors during the race! Thank you for all the amazing race footage - keep going and stay safe!

You're making me watch back some my video! :) I totally forgot about me complaining that I didn't bring poles, when they were on my back all along!

@@runningwithsimon that was hilarious - you have so many great films that are so inspiring to go back and watch you just being yourself and having fun and enjoying the experiences and that’s what makes your content so motivating to go out and take on these challenges!

So cool! I’ve paced my mom on The Bear for years and I plan on doing the entire race next year! If I succeed I’ll be the second youngest and I’ll set an age record for the 17 year olds because no 17 year old has done it. And it’ll be my first 100 miler. I also want to do a documentary like this. I hope to see you next year!

That's so cool! Is the other one Howard Wang? If so, we actually did the Grand Slam together in 2021. Anyhow, I'll probably be there so hopefully we meet on trails! (still not 100% sure as it depends if I'm picked for Tor des Geants)

@@runningwithsimonHoward is one of them, but there was this 15 year old in 2004 that claimed the title of the youngest. Howard was 18 when he finished. But yeah, I really enjoyed the documentary. Thanks for your efforts for making it!

Seems like a great place to be - I love how close nature was. You could literally go from city center to climbing a mountain on foot!

Doing all these hundreds has been really inspiring!! You should do an end of the year summary of how you trained to maintain the fitness, what made some of the hundreds more manageable than others, and what your favorite overall course was!! I'm genuinely interested and sure others are as well! Quite the performance 🎉🎉

This is a beautiful area! I visited Bear Lake this last summer for a family reunion. I was able to enjoy a few trails while there, but not 100 miles ;-) Great job! Awesome video!
@runningwithsimon
@runningwithsimon 10 месяцев назад
It was absolutely gorgeous indeed! I think one of the thing that made it unique is the range in altitude from like 5k to 9k - the changes in vegetations and colors was particularly obvious! A big contrast to the higher ones in Colorado from the summer where at some point, it's mostly rocks and the occasional mountain flowers (which I love too but is very different)

Yes 100%! We were very lucky for sure. I was on those trails the weekend before, and I think it had snowed a few days before. Anyhow, it was slick and slippery mud (mixed with cow diarrhea...). Lovely... I was worried a bit about it, but turned out things dried up and we had lovely weather (rain was forecast for the night and second day, but it cleared up)

Injinji socks, brother. You'll never have to tape your toes again, ever
@runningwithsimon

Thanks for the tip. I know people like those, but I really don't like the feeling of toe socks. I might try them again some day, but for now taping ahead of a race isn't THAT inconvenient. Plus, I'd still need to tape my heel.

I’m on the elliptical watching your video, thank you for sharing this race! I’m an ultra runner also and just had to miss running Rio Del Lago 100 because I got really sick 2 weeks ago, almost done with Rx and I’m feeling good enough to at least get some gym time and train for next year early 💪🏻🥳 Thanks for helping that runner up that fell, I’m always helping my fellow runners during races also 💗💕 Keep up the awesome work, I subscribe and liked your video 🥰 I have a Ford Model A channel and my fitness & health channel, Tina Shinn healthy habits

How rocky are the trails compared to other races you have done?
@runningwithsimon
@runningwithsimon 10 месяцев назад
It was fine - nothing too bad. Overall it was a very "runnable" course - worst case was that sometimes you had to watch footing going downhill before of rock, but manageable (nothing like say Mogollon or Ouray where sometimes you HAVE to walk downhill).
@pastryhousehippo

Would you recommend that hat with the flap for hot runs? Have been considering as a runner that gets really hot but haven't felt confident enough to make the purchase
@runningwithsimon
@runningwithsimon 11 месяцев назад
I hardly ever run without it anymore! I honestly don't know how big of difference it makes for heat itself, but for the direct impact of the sun on my neck, that's a huge difference (I am fairly light skin and burn easily). That said, I'm sure you could also get away with a cheaper brand or just use some cloth/buff as makeshift . .... I do miss my funky hate :/ ps: I also use the hat basically on any hike nowadays too. Especially at altitude where the sun just hits so much harder. Again, I don't think it's so much about heat, but more about the sun hitting your skin. For the same reason, I often use arm sleeves very frequently
