I agree with you, I didn’t like Claire’s character. Didn’t seem natural the way she tried so hard, but I understand what the point of adding her to the show was. Overall a great show.
@@whoozyyy I thought I was the only one that thought Claire was trying too hard to 'be cool' or whatever lol. Claire and Carmy just wasn't a good compatible match. But I'm definitely feeling like the show is setting up Carmy and Syd to get together later.
Did not like it, maybe 1 episode which was episode 7, but other than that it felt like the focus was more about their lives then the food itself, i just wish there was more cooking.
Not too many shows exist that can make my eyes sweat and have me laughing at the same time. Binged Season 2 and already rewatching it. Loved Richie’s story. I recognized his journey and it was great seeing his transformation.
Richie's Arc in his episode was fantastic. Was a great payoff for a character that I had written off as the problem with the restaurant. The scene in the finale where he rocks out the service was beautiful. His pure joy when he found his purpose in the machine that is restaurant was just lovely.
I watching and thinking he would quit the restaurant during season 2 due to the changes. But i really liked that he improve on what he is already good than picking another trade.
Am I the only one that saw the symbolism with Carmy & Richie on dueling sides of the walk in? The man all dressed in white being in a dark lonely place, and the man in black being in a pristine white space? The changing of their roles
It's them realizing what they really want and the trauma of their history literally screaming at each other through a wall of defense, trying to navigate the trauma and try to start something new down the road so they can have healthier lives
Not only about colors but also about temperatures and the symbolism of someone trying to get Carmen out of that tiny and cold cubicle that could represent Carmen’s heart.
Even though the central story is Carmy, I really enjoyed watching all the characters get filled with the self confidence that only learning something new can bring. It's truly heart warming watching all the characters grow.
So am I the only one that thinks Carmy and Syd lowkey love each other? I thought they were just cool friends last season but this new season definitely felt like watching two introverted people have a crush on each other but both are too shy to do anything about it. There were several scenes when they gazed at each other awkwardly and then pretended like it didn't happen. Not to mention that scene where Carmy is literally having a panic attack thinking of Claire and the only thing that could calm him down is when he thought of Sydney. That's lowkey love, right?
Sydney definitely likes Carmy .. but carmy no no .. he doesn't even think he deserves relationship with claire .. marcus guy likes Sydney thats the story
One of the best shows on television in a LONG time. Hard to compare to anything I've seen. Breathtaking. Riveting. Tense and beautiful. I have soooo much more to say on episodes and characters. LOVE The Bear
I really liked the secene where lee bob odenkirk kept tempting mikey to throw the fork in the christmas episode it was super tense then they say grace and the situation gets worse
I haven't been able to find any video breakdowns of Syd & Carmy's relationship. I'd love to see that. There's a really interesting mix of mutual professional respect & tenderness between the two that I don't see often on TV. I think that could be the basis for a compelling romantic relationship down the line. The table scene, Carmy thinking of Syd as he was trying to calm down, the subtle touches between the two, Syd not wanting to "share" his attention, etc... There's a lot there, no matter how subtle
Loved the first season and like how they brought it yet again in Season 2. 🔥🔥🔥 I especially loved how everyone literally leveled up this season, especially Richie, Marcus and Tina. While it was interesting seeing Carmy attempt to have something outside of the restaurant, the Claire storyline seemed forced and I didn’t see nor get any sort of chemistry between them at all. Though in season 1, Syd and Carmy’s relationship seemed strictly professional, this season, there’s a natural growing emotional connection between them, which I don’t mind at all. Seems out of everyone, Syd totally gets the anxiety and stress of what Carmy goes through on a daily basis and vice versa. I thought it was touching how Carmy reacted when Syd finally told him that her mother was deceased; I think he may have felt that he should’ve known that already. The scene when they have the conversation under the table was especially telling. Though I think if they did end up having romantic feelings for each other, it would mess up the working relationship and especially with Marcus crushing on (then later rejected) by Syd. I don’t think Syd gets (nor gives herself) enough credit. If it wasn’t for her, the restaurant wouldn’t have nearly been as put together as it was. I totally respect her ambition and drive it be the best leader they she can despite the constant stress and anxiety she faces. Also, Robert Townsend playing her father was perfect casting. Looking forward to season 3!🔥🔥🔥
i think this is the last time we saw claire :( when they met, they were standing at a fridge. carmy had the fridge door open to get something, and the open glass door was seperating him and claire, but when she called his name, they looked at each other through the glass, he closed the door and approached her. the breakup also happened when they were seperated by a fridge door, but this one isnt seethrough and carmy cant close (or open) it to approach claire
This show is so great I want everyone to watch it and I do agree that, though I loved binging it this past weekend, I would’ve liked weekly rollouts just so it could last longer then I could go back and binge rewatch. The reason I think they did them all at once is for the emotion to come through more. Sometimes you forget what all happened last week but like this, there’s no way. One big movie. And, Episode 6 is just a masterpiece! Bravo to all in this series!! I hope it wins plenty of awards! Guest actors were so damn good as well! Bob Odenkirk does not miss! ❤
I loved Richie's growth in this season! I just hope that next season Carmy can have a similar redemption arc cause was just heartbreaking to witness how much pain and turmoil he was in at the end.
I kinds wanna see a funeral scene in the third season... call me morbid, but I wanna see some emotions get handled, and see how Uncle Lee feels, since his argument with Mikey mightve led to his self deletion, see what kind of fallout that had
This show is far from a comedy, but is more an emotional roller coaster that I really feel every emotion while watching the series. Til next year Bear Fam
Having worked in Michelin kitchens, I honestly wasn’t impressed with Sydney’s character especially in the last episode. She showed a lack of presence/assertiveness . Also, you never argue back with the chef in front of staff/cooks. Friends and family is obviously meant to work out the kinks, but it didn’t seem like a successful one from the audience point of view. I didn’t care for Claire, and I really liked Ritchie’s arc as well as Nats
You are SO off on Sydney. Its understandable as I can obviously tell you dont work in the restaurant industry. The bear uses Sydney to portray a common situation in the kitchen when the Sous chef believes that they are "doing everything" and think the executive chef does nothing. When in actuality the biggest sign of a great leader is their team can achieve the same outcome without that leader present. Sydneys character is the least "believable", in the eyes of a professional chef.
Richie's growth in this season was my favorite, the way someone like Richie and mikey got along is really no secret. the sheer amount of emotional attention those guys bring even though sometimes it can be immature and full of anger lol, they could both show unreal amounts of verbal and physical love and care. i couldn't see any other actor playing Richie or Micheal.
I became a Richie fan season one episode 3 I think it was...when he and Syd are going to the hardware store and he is on the phone with his 5 year old daughter who is upset about kids at school. The way he talks to her is just so tender and perfect in how he supports her... I was rooting for him after that! It showed his true self...
Yeah, it was sad seeing him beating himself up in the walk-in saying he failed his team. Not knowing that he created a team that was fully functional without him.
As a man who'll be turning 40 this year, Richie's storyline hit extra hard. Tina's too. I'm sure we've all felt the insecurity of being an impostor or being left behind at some point. This show illustrates whats possible when you start to take yourself seriously like Richie, or step out and trying something new and scary like Tina. I like the fact even though they're both given the opportunity by Carm and Sydney, the changes are ultimately done by them.
@eatallyourfish9066whoever is president has very little impact on your life. Meanwhile you’re wasting your life away crying about Biden and blaming him for all your issues.
Same, especially the richie and olivia colman (!) scene and carmy and sydney under the table (beautifully blocked). i would respectfully disagree that carmy is like his mom. he might think that, but they are vastly different characters.
@@JeffsGoldblum in ways carmy is like donna remember the line "i spend all day making things beautiful for them but nobody makes it beautiful for me" kinda the way carmy acted on friends and family night
The main cast in the show is phenomenal, but can we take a moment to appreciate the cameos this season? Jamie Lee Curtis, John Mulaney, Bob Odenkirk, Olivia Coleman, Will Poulter, Sara Paulson... I mean, wow. And they all killed it.
my jaw literally dropped when i saw how stacked the guest stars were, especially when I saw Jamie Lee Curtis as their mom oh my god. Such perfect fits for every relative. Am I the only one that noticed how cringe and creepy Uncle Jimmy aka Cicero was with their mom tho???? like idk if hes her brother or their dads brother but he literally called her hot and i think he even kissed her in their initial scene together??? i was so confused and creeped out by that. his character creeps me out in general but that topped it off
Richie's episode was my favorite next to the final. Seeing him learn and find his purpose and absolutely killing it when it came to controlling the kitchen like an orchestra conductor was fucking awesome
Absolutely. I absolutely HATED his character and I reaffirmed that since I’m watching S1 again. I just couldn’t believe how in just 1 episode I did a 180 and now absolutely LOVE his character. It hurt when his ex wife said she got proposed to. I wanted him to show her he’s gotten better and he is better.
It's kismet because the woman who showed him how expo works at the restaurant did the double take looking at him while she walked away. She'll stop by The Bear and see him in action no doubt. Her attitude matches his better than Tiffany's does
Jamie Lee Curtis's brief scene in Episode 10 was emotionally devastating. Also kudos to Chris Witaske as Pete (the brother in law) in that and the scene after.
Just finished season 2 (like 30mins ago) and I loved it. I'm always and forever gonna be all about Carmy - BUT Richie & Tina & Marcus, THEIR storylines absolutely captivated me this season; I mean the growth that their characters experienced!! Also.... also, I would be remiss if I neglected to acknowledge the juggernaut that is Donna (aka) Ms. Jamie Lee Curtis, what a performance.👏🏾👏🏾
I went from despising Richie to absolutely loving him. His growth was beautiful and I was literally cheering him on when he took over like a boss. I loved watching Marcus' and Tina's stories and I was so proud of both of them. Sydney is my girl and the heart of this crew and show. I loved that she was the one that centered Carmy when be was freaking out. Claire was eh (glad I'm not the only one lol). I feel like that sequence when Carmy was breaking down showed how she reminds him of the chaos in his life while Sydney represents hope and purpose. The Christmas episode was my favorite. OMG JLC was phenomenal! This show is just the absolute best and cannot wait for the next season
Marcus bothers me a bit.. He is very much the artist of the group.. but he majorly lacks discipline and he doesnt seem to grow with the rest of them. They are in a super stressful situation and he brings up personal drama in the middle of everything? I just wish theyd let his character grow more.
Sydney coming into her own and working with Natalie to get all the logistics done in the THREE MONTH time frame were my favourite moments. We see Natalie as more than the older sister who Carmen avoids and instead, we find out just how smart and resilient she is while Sydney goes from being 'too impatient' to running decisions past Natalie (or Carmy when he turns off boyfriend mode.) Sydney, Natalie and Tina were my standouts from this season, Richie is a close 4th
For real..... And people out hear saying Syd's character did not develop. The women in this show are phenomenal. They all came out of their shells 1 by 1. Syd and Carm really have a long way to go when it comes to development.
didn't he make like 1 plan w claire that conflicted with restaurant plans then take her on a work errand, and then had the gall to be inspired to reclaim part of his childhood with a cannoli, selling it under the name of his dead brother? yeah, he sucks for being totally in bf mode....
@@Bran_Flakesx7 “work errand” that he never came back from leaving his partner hanging AGAIN, discussing and basically finalizing the menu without his CDC’s input, not calling the fridge guy until he gets stuck in it and he’s making decisions without both his sister AND partner, the show CLEARLY meant for us to realize Carmy doesn’t know how to juggle his relationship and his work but media literacy is lacking these days🫶🏾
@@Bran_Flakesx7 he’s skipped out on numerous things that he, Nat and Sydney were supposed to do together, only to get upset when they make a choice he doesn’t like. His galavanting caused him to never call the fridge guy even after promising his partner that he’s all in, he essentially planned the menu without input from his CDC but instead from his nowhere attached to food girlfriend. Carmen’s arc was meant to show he doesn’t know how to balance things because instead of dealing with his grief, he immediately throws aside everything that has helped him the moment he starts dating Claire. He shirked his responsibilities when he got into his relationship, idk why you’re acting like me pointing it out isn’t the point of his arc during season two: he doesn’t know how to balance his life. He’s 100% this or that and it’s to his own detriment.
That Christmas episode was one of the best episodes of any show ever. Such a powerhouse of actors/acting, it was mindblowing! I actually cried because of the amazing acting all around. Loved to see Sarah Paulson!
I don't think Marcus is becoming like Carmy (in the sense that he's hyper focused on one thing and having no time for other things). Marcus had that talk with Luca in episode 4 about being more open to the world (and other people) and not only focusing on culinary skills. According to Luca, most of the incredibly things he'd eaten haven't been because the skill level is high or had loads of fancy techniques. They're incredible because they're inspired. And you get inspiration by being open. I think that idea of being open and inspired is what drove Marcus to actually ask Sydney out. Unfortunately, the outcome was not in Marcus' favor. But still, the fact that Marcus tried to ask Sydney out means he's not singularly focus on his culinary skills. Also, Marcus (and the entire crew) was definitely focused on the restaurant's opening and I don't think he has his phone with him. I don't think Marcus not being able answer the nurse's call (probably because the phone is not with him) is equivalent to Carmy actually ignoring Claire's call due to kitchen duties. When Luca was talking about this chef who started in the same fancy restaurant as him but is much better than him, I believe he was talking about Carmy. That version of Carmy (young Carmy) was the one that was focused on skills/techniques. Sort of the opposite of the openness Luca was talking about.
Carmy tells Michael, in "Fishes", about his time in Copenhagen. sleeping on the boat, and feeding the invisible cat. Carmy sent Marcus to train under Luca, because Carmy is certainly the "Better Chef" Luca spoke of.
@@zacharyhough6407 You're right. I didn't notice it during first viewing. Marcus' phone is on his table in his area. He's ready to answer any emergency calls even if he's busy. Unfortunately, Marcus bumped the phone with a tray and dropped the phone on the ground but he's too busy to picked it up.
I felt like this was somewhat intentional because Clarie honestly didn't seem like someone who would last long in Carmy's life since she's too closely tied to the family trauma Carm's been trying his best to keep buried. I thought this to be the case when Carmy was having a panic attack, seeing Clarie and his family as the chaos, whereas Sydney was what grounded him.
That’s why this show needs hour-long episodes. It would really aid in character and relationship development. I know it’s technically a “comedy,” but all the sauce is there to make for excellent character-studies.
@@SAM-MME I did like Claire--maybe because I like that actress. But unfortunately, she represents a past where Carmy felt shy, insecure, lonely. She represents all the fun he missed out on. And now, because she's not a part of his restaurant world, she represents all the distractions that could keep him from achieving his dream. Not her fault, of course, but it is what it is. Good woman, bad timing. But what she maybe did do was serve to remind him that he is deserving of love and care and fun and enjoyment, and those are things he can have when he's ready for them.
Sydney is the best. So intuitive, so mature, so creative, so kind, so funny, so smart. I love the respect that Carmy shows her and how he actually listens to and often defers to her. He may not always be effusive about it, but it's clear that he thinks she's a top notch chef and knows full well that restaurant would never have come to be without her. "I couldn't do this without you. I wouldn't want to do it without you." My prediction/hope is that the two of them are end game.
I gotta disagree. I saw Sydney and Carmy both as failures this season that paralleled each other. They only ever achieved success in moments that they work together and fall apart when they don't. This season was all about the characters around them growing, with those 2 taking a back seat much of the time and actually remaining fairly static as characters. I believe season 3 may be the last season, where we see the 2 of them actually grow.
Just finished the last episode 15 minutes ago. Def alot better than last season. Carm is such a complex character, def is bitch trying to juggle work, acheiving what you want and maintaining relationships plus trying to keep everyone happy. Along with that obsessive tunnel vision, that shit is dangerous. Great video by the way.
When Carmy is having a conversation with Sydney, it doesn't feel like they are "trying", they just "are". They have a back and forth and natural rapport with each other. With Claire, it felt like more she was always taking the initiative or lead and Carmy had to kind of "force", for lack of a better word, himself to be as open as he could. It didn't feel natural. I don't see why they had to introduce a love interest this season. Carmy is still a mess and has A LOT of things he needs to work through. It would have been nice to see him in more meetings or therapy sessions.
I think you, and a lot of others, are completely missing the point of Claire’s character. She’s a calm, truly selfless and loving presence in Carmy’s life, and he has no idea how to handle it. His idea of love is fucked, as illustrated by his family’s stressful dynamic in Fishes. The trauma endured from Carmy’s family permeates into his relationships and own sense of self-worth, he’s hesitant to open himself up because he’s never known a love so pure. Claire has to go out of her way to get Carmy to allow himself to accept love and be happy for once. I think Claire was perfect, she’s likely the only thing standing in the way of Carmy becoming his mother. I really hope the show ends with them together, Carmy deserves to be happy.
@@NicksFitnessYTyes! This is why fishes is such an important episode. When richie calls carmy “donna” through the fridge door we all know what he means and why that stings so much. My one issue is that claire seems to like carmy a little too much a little too fast. All his issues aside, it doesn’t seem unreasonable for him to not be ready to reciprocate just yet and to be willing to trade a fairly new relationship for the pursuit of a very high risk personal project.
@@NicksFitnessYTSo, I have to say that I think Carmy’s family thinks that Claire is good for him (refer back to S2E6). I really do believe that Carmy has feelings for her, but the panic attack scene showed, to me at least, that this is a relationship that he feels his family approves of or thinks is good, particularly Mikey, and we know already how much Carmy strived to get his approval. Claire couldn’t calm him down because she’s tied to his family & past. I will point out how interesting it is that Sydney is who calms him, although at this point, I am only sure that it is tied to their work relationship. I don’t know if Claire & Carmy are endgame or not, & I have no issues with Claire, nor do I “ship” Carmy & Sydney, just thought I would share.
While dude was locked in the closet - it showed us idle time is the devils time. Once he had to slow down the ANXIETY set in. That's why he always has to stay busy - distracting himself from his moms anxiety in which he inherited from her. Really really great scene
i mean, not just him having to slow down. he's stuck not being able to run his restaurant on opening night. So the failure attached to that is a feeling that starts the spiral at max speed
I wasn’t a fan of Claire, I feel like they tried to make her a “dream girl” with all the extended smiles and the long plastic stares. Her performance was of huge contrast to the other cast members. She felt kind of out of place in the show, like she was meant to be in rom com or something. But I love the concept of Carmy falling in love and their story was executed brilliantly. I guess we were supposed to view her in this romanticized way through Carmy’s eyes, as she simply served the purpose of being a distraction and being a part of his life that he had to sacrifice, denying himself normalcy and enjoyment for the sake of success.
I couldn't figure out why I didn't grow to love Claire as much as I have the other characters and I think you explained it perfectly. She definitely didn't fit in with how everyone else was written.
So many things to say about this show. One of my favorites is Richie sending the Uncle the chocolate covered banana. The Christmas episode the Uncle tells a story about bananas and then Tiff want's to thank him for giving Richie a job even though that wasn't a done deal. Uncle covers for him and says yes and Richie say's thank you quietly behind Tiff's head. During the episode of Richie finding his purpose he's taught to listen and remember the customers and make their experience one to remember. So when there was a surprise for table 51 and Sid said isn't the Mr. Kalinowski, he said yes, right on the nose. He sent Uncle a chocolate covered banana. Richie remembered the good deed the Uncle did and sent the memory. Richie rules.
Carm and Claire was an important temporary storyline to me because it showed how important Mikey’s opinion was to Carm. Carm is still heavily trying to make everything up to Mikey.
I think it also shows how much Carm has let Mikey’s memory overtake his identity. Richie asked Carm at the beginning of season two what his idea of fun was, with no answer. In the finale here, Carm states he deserves no amusement or enjoyment. If anything I think Claire made him realize that he is a person outside of Mikey and most important of all that it’s okay for him to be his own person. Carm is so damaged by what he thinks his brother thought of him that he put himself in horrific, abusive situations beyond his family life. I just don’t think Carm understands how loved and appreciated he is, not just by Mikey, but by Sugar, by Richie, by the people still in his life.
Omg this is such a good point, i thought around this in the fact that he was trying to please or live up to his brothers and richie's expectations by being with Claire, and she's "perfect" but she's not really what he wants, he doesn't want perfect.
@@kimberleywilliams7802 I not what he wants, its that he cant be what he needs to be if he is in a healthy relationship. He is damaged and obsessive and that is how he is going be succesful
@@MaMastoast I wouldn't speak in absolutes but that's a good observation, I can see why you may have come to that conclusion. I can also see my point as well, we can both have different viewpoints.
About Marcus's mother, there was a moment in the finale where the sound of someone flatlining could be heard And I later assumed that this was Marcus's mother The viewers heard the time of death, Marcus did not
Maybe I’m reading to far into things but does anyone else think they’re setting Sydney and Carmey up to possibly date at some point? Claire seemed to bother her and when carmy was having that panic attack the thought of Sydney calmed him down.
No, you're not reading too far, I agree. I think their chemistry is more obvious this season than it was last season. They clearly care about each other a lot, I just think that they're both too shy and too similar to make the first move. I actually think Carmy & Syd would make a good match just because they seem to bring the best out of each other and both share the same passion and goals for their love of food👍🏾
@@belowaveragegamer95She sure did say that lol😆 Yep, it's kind of like they already have this special bond and that's why Carmy was really struggling to figure out what the right thing to do was while dating Claire.
I don't really buy it tho, i feel like they have sibling-esque energy/vibe. Or at least platonic idk 🤷 she could be into women or whatever i guess?? i'm not really view her character as lonely one (need relationship ?) But that just imo i prob wrong lol
Claire lacked flaws she was just perfect, so perfect she seemed unreal but that was intentional i think they wanted us to feel how Carmy felt that she was too perfect and we were waiting for the other shoe to fall except till the end she didnt have another shoe
I was not a fan of the Claire arc either. Towards the end of the season i found myself fast fwding through her parts honestly…which is such a shame for an otherwise phenomenal season
Yeah I don't know why, it just felt like there were far more interesting plots. Sydney and her growth to basically leading it all, Richie and his personal development and also Marcus!
I think they just need to focus on the chefs for next season. Leave side characters to one episode or a few minutes but don’t give them unnecessarily long scenes.
@@ms.bubs4fun506yeah I don’t feel compelled to root for the new side characters. I just wanna see the chefs. I realised that was the only time I was interested in it.
I loved so many moments in this season. The chemistry between Syd and Carm and them really seeing how much they need each other, Tina growing more confident, Marcus going out in his own more and having his own special, Sugar proving to be a great asset for the restaurant, Fac basically any scene he was in lol but most of all Richies arc was absolutely the best!
Tina is my favorite side-character, I really hope she gets her own episode in season 3 🥺 I teared up when Syd asked her if she wanted to be the Sous 🥰 I HATED her in the first episode of season 1, because I've worked with people like her who will sabotage you. But seeing her soak up the guidance and praise this season made me so happy
Loved season 2.. Even better than season1. Being a chef of a very busy restaurant i can relate to so many situations in the show. NOTHING gets you pumped up more than when your having a crazy busy night and every thing is flowing.. I love in episode 9 when Richie takes over and gets them out of the weeds! LOVE IT cant wait for season 3!
I think that Claire played her part just right because she is supposed to be that love from the past that Carme has ultimately outgrown. She is a distant dream that is so beautiful but has to be let go. I think the show's writers were really clever with the "romance" in this season. Does Carmy like Sydney? Are Marcus and Sydney going to get together? Really great and clever how they bypassed turning Bear into a romcom. X
The writers denied that Sydney and Carmy will become a couple but I think that’s a 🧢 cap. The show is definitely setting those two up as endgame. However, I do think there might be hurt feelings from Marcus if Sydney gets with Carmy.
I like the idea of Sydney and Carmen, but I ❤ their friendship more. I wld rather see Marcus & Sydney. NOW, I wouldn't be surprised if Sydney and Carmen kissed one day😊
I don’t see Syd and Caen at all being romantic at all. Carm and Claire’s relationship really is more of Carm’s lack attentiveness to his own happiness, is my view. Lack of attentiveness of balance, despite someone supportive of your dream. He was already, from the flashback ep, resistant of it because he wasn’t open to the idea
That's completely the opposite of what it seemed to me. The idea of "outgrowing" Claire and happiness is what HE said in the fridge which was supposed to show how damaged his sense of self is. We shouldn't be applauding that decision. Also every scene with Claire and Carmen shows him to be totally in love with her
I loved this season, the characters felt like real people. I'm not a fan of Carmy/Clair but only because it's a difficult pairing with 2 ambitious people. But that's the heartbreak of life, setting priorities of love versus purpose when they conflict. The Christmas episode was an Oscar worthy movie. It was a bit cheesy when a new character came in and it's another actor I love.
Carm's statement of not wanting joy and fun in his life towards the end was so sad, thats something I do as well to 'self punish' and it made me feel so bad for him at a moment when i was so pissed at him. Amazing show
I think the Richie episode was the best overall episode from a good season that let us look into each of the characters. Just sad we have to wait another year to see what happens next.
This is probably the best show… Marcus and Ritchie this season stole my heart. And I was kinda happy Carmy was getting a love interest but then I noticed there was nothing there and I feel like he let her in to avoid the pressure of the opening. I can’t wait for season 3
I don't like Claire I felt like for such a realistic show she felt fake an out of place, first of all she's like a fantasy character, she's so perfect, I get it she's his high school crush etc, I wanted to be happy for Carmey to have a relationship but I just couldn't the relationship to would have been more believable if he'd met someone at the grocery store an sparks flew, an why was everyone so protective of her I mean all the characters including Richie was like she's the best girl ever..I wasn't buying it there was no real build up we were told what to feel an I felt nothing, I wasn't invested in her an Carneys relationship it was just kinda blah , honestly I think Claire is what was not good about this season she really added nothing to the story🤷
The first season was perfect. I thought it couldn't be topped. But for me, this season takes the cake! THESE PEOPLE JUST DON'T MISS!! I love the character arc's, especially Ritchie's. I love that we got to see the family dynamic in episode 6. I've also seen the hate for the Claire storyline. Although it may have felt a little out of place, I can definitely see where it served a purpose. Carm has tortured himself for a long time and constantly puts himself in tough positions. He internalizes most of his struggles Through all of these struggles, his main takeaway is that he ruins everything he touches. He also can't accept that good things are going to happen to him. He's a tortured genius. Although I feel that this storyline could've been developed a little better, it does serve its purpose. It further develops Carm's character and dives deeper into his trauma. Hopefully things will be a little smoother next season though! Even a "mediocre" storyline is still great. This show and its crew are PERFECT!!!
@@chardonnaymack253 Her illness was actually foreshadowed in season 1. In episode 4 or 5, before she leaves her apartment for work, she takes two pills. The medicine cabinet is full of prescription bottles. At the time I assumed that most of the medicine was for her dad, but sadly it might be Sydney’s.
We already knew Carmy pretty well. This season was about getting some context on the other characters. I think they did a perfect job with each character.
I agree that Clair and Carmy was a bit out of place. There was no need to do that as he already has a screwed up relationship with a woman that ultimately resulted in him having a melt down at the opening - his mom. There was no need for Claire, they could have just explored more his relationship with Donna. In the end he behaved just like she did at that Christmas dinner. He messed up more because of Donna and her bad parenting than because of Claire and few distractions.
Yeah wasnt feeling Claire either. The actors definitely have no chemistry. But great season. Favorite episodes was the Denmark episode and Ritchie working in the elite restaurant.
its so insane seeing Jeremy Allen White in this role because it literally feels like Lip Gallagher from Shameless in an alternate universe. Still in Chicago, still with an insane and dysfunctional family, still a genius but in another way, he still uses a lot of physicality and mannerisms he used when he played Lip it makes it hard for me to detatch him from that character and focus on him being Carmy sometimes🤣 he did a phenomenal job none the less, I was just an absolute Shameless fanatic who has binge watched it multiple times. Sidenote, with that in mind, Richie wouldve been an incredible addition to the cast of Shameless when it was on.
I thought that’s why Sydney ran out and threw up. I was thinking she realized they messed up so bad that her worst nightmare was occurring. Definitely a weird scene for sure that I think many people missed or maybe I’m misinterpreting it
@@chinoskateboardv nah that makes sense. I think it was probably his old mean chef that they showed a glimpse of alone at a table. Maybe he was the only one who had a bad experience and might leave a bad review or something starting off the 3rd season with another conflict.
@@TheWavys its a friends and family dinner, you wouldn’t leave a bad review its like a test night to work out the kinks. The issue would he is if the chef didn’t get served it’s a sign of disrespect. When a chef you know comes in as a fellow chef you’re supposed to feed him everything on your menu and them some as a sign of brotherhood.
Loved the "Shameless" guest spot. Hope to see Emmy Rossum and William H Macy in season 3. I think this has the same uplifting vibe as Ted Lasso. I can think of another character based currently airing series with the same vibe. In season one, Carmy carried the team. In season 2, the team carried Carmy. Predictions: by the end of the 3rd season, Syd will leave The Bear to open her own restaurant. 4th season, we go back and forth between The Bear and her restaurant, which fails by the end of the season where she's back at The Bear. Carmy was super stressed without her. 5th (and final) season is where they get a star (or stars) and there is a battle of egos between Carmy and Syd. At the end, Carmy eventually takes a back seat to let Syd take over the day to day responsibilities for his mental and emotional health.
Dude watching Carmens world fall apart while getting was stuck in the walk in powerless to do anything brought me to tears. I think all of us who have aorked in a restaurant have had times where maybe our relationship was falling apart and we were trying to work thinfa out but we were stuck in a dinner rush or something and had to just suck it up. This reminded me alot of that feeling even even if technically it happened after the rush. So heart breaking. I wish he would think mord before he talks . He's gonna have to go on a world wife apology tour next season lol
I actually did like Claire as a character...I just wished that they had introduced her on the 3rd season once the restaurant was good to go. I really felt like they included her for artificial drama that was just unnecessary. It appeared that starting a relationship during the middle of a desperate restaurant opening was not something Carmy would have done. Lastly...I still ship Carmy and Sydney XD
The writers did an AMAZING job with season 2 to get more of the back stories on each character was fucking amazing im sooo mad at my self I couldn't stop watching and binged all of season 2 in 1 day. I'm ganna watch this series again frm the beginning. So good
There's a lot of religious symbolism throughout the show and to me , the fridge scene is clearly meant to be a confessional. His dear "cousin " dressed like a priest , answering to his hurtful words by "I love you !" I think next season is going to be about repentance & grief .
I saw some reviews saying that Carmy is unfortunately becoming one of the less interesting characters on the show and I think that’s true. I was rooting for him and Claire because he deserves happiness but I agree they didn’t have a lot of chemistry and that entire plot line felt forced. It’s like they boiled down his character to trauma, genius, and being emotionally unavailable. Richie became my favorite character this season. Already loved his arc in season 1 but watching him find purpose after life kept kicking the shit out of him again and again…that was genuinely touching to see. And agree with you about season 6. All the guest stars were incredible but Jamie Lee Curtis straight-up stole every scene even when she wasn’t on camera. Loved the unexpected moment between her and as Pete in the finale. I think the one thing I prefer about season 1 was that (since it was almost entirely filmed inside the kitchen) the ensemble felt like more of a unit. They seemed more united and aware of each others feelings, etc. Communication issues were just abounding as the group worked to set up the restaurant (mostly due to Carmy). But at the same time it was really interesting to explore the characters individually. Overall, loved this season
I do hope they do a season 3 because Carmy at least has some unresolved issues to deal with. He needs to learn to open up to people around him and to ask for help when he needs it. So does Sydney, on a lesser level - her really blasé rejection of Marcus wasn’t cool and the two of them would make a great team. Marcus I can see going even farther, he has the passion and the drive. We could see Tina develop further too as a sous chef (the amount of confidence she gained is incredible!) and many of the side characters like Ebram could be explored more (his decision to suddenly stop going to culinary school was strange and sudden and the show never really properly addressed it).
I actually liked the Claire and Carm story line. It felt good to see Carm doing something other than cooking. I’m not sure if i enjoyed the ending him being stuck in the walk-in. Really hoping there’s a season 3
It's a metaphor for him being stuck as a chef. He's an artist at heart and Claire was essentially another metaphor for him to realize there's more to life for him than owning a restaurant. That will probably be the main issue in S3
I think the Clare’s character is very pretty and attractive. Not sure if it’s the script or her acting, she seems a little “try hard” to flirt with Carm. I also think two people with the most crazy intense and busy occupations wouldn’t work. Like a ER Doctor probably works 80plus hours a week? When would she find time to chase him around? Also he’s at a stage to start a restaurant at a location that has tons of problems. Just bad fit and bad timing no matter how you slice it.
I loved the special ofc but also the next ep focussing on Richie. I loved the cameos. I love how the season happens outside of the Beef. I liked Claire, she didn't take to much space. I like how she changes Carmen, how he needs to choose how to handle the Bear while dating or not her. I like Tina's moment when she really enjoys her stage. Her emotional singing... Everything is so damn good. What a show.
As someone who cooks for a living, I absolutely loved when Richie stepped up, took over Expo and helped save the day. One of the most cliche "oh here we go again" eyeroll moments in a kitchen is when the night is a nightmare, you're in the weeds and the General Manager steps up to take over expo, only to make things even worse.
Claire was a good character nicknamed Claire bear she is the right choice for carmy even though there is the hint about Sydney and carm but that won't work out
I just watched the episode and yes I saw this. During the table scene, it felt definitely like they were expressing how they feel about each other on a personal relationship type level not a professional one. If you notice, Syd is the only one who can put Carm on check when he starts to lose his shit. Carm respects her and is afraid to lose her. They both also know nothing else but the kitchen world.
I'm surprised it didn't just become an FX weekly show after season 1 and the hype. The only reason I could think, is the binge model and the chaotic feel of the show, kinda go hand in hand. Surprised by the Honeydew and Forks episodes, and the Honeydew Easter egg in Forks was genius! Xmas Fishes episode felt like a Krisha the A24 movie. Good review sir
I don’t think Carme handled balancing his relationship with his work well, but for Clare to take seriously a conversation he thought he was having with someone else is really shitty. Let the man vent. He’s locked in a fridge having a panic attack
I just finished Binge watching the 2nd season and I REALLY liked it 😊 I loved the food montage when Sydney was going to the different restaurants and the Christmas dinner episode had me a little stressed as well, especially when the Mom put the butter on the bread with her bare hands and didnt wash them for a while afterwards. But it was so cool that she drove the car through her house lol. And I agree about Claire she felt kind of like a dream to me like that kind of person didnt exist. And i laughed when Carmy got stuck in the fridge, i knew it was going to happen to someone. And Tina and Richie's glow up was so cool! Im rooting for them.
