The recreation of the double false-start, as in the complete recording, is just the ultimate proof that this video was made by a true Beatles fan. Thanks !
I just love the way you go into all details of the song. All the back story complete with flubs and such. You really have an acute ear for music and are an excellent musician and teacher. I thoroughly enjoy your videos. Thank you.
Alway love your tutorials and back story's. You dont spend time explaining how to form the particular chords finger by finger. LoL And gotta say many of your renditions of these songs sound better than the originals. Thanks.
Thanks Mike! Side note story:.. In the 80's I played in a Christian band.. One time in the studio.. we had a demo tape on the reel and unbeknownst to us, Phil Keggy was in coming in for a session and he played on our track as a lark.. It sounded awesome! I don't know what ever happened to that track but it sure was a thrill for us to listen to his playing over our humble band.
The history behind each song is so very interesting. We hear the final version on the album but don’t always realize how much work goes into each song. Thanks Mike!
Thanks Mike. After In My Life (my wife and my's wedding song), this is my favorite Rubber Soul song. John's a acoustic work is fantastic. Always loved that G/B between the C and Am. Just a great song and love the way you break it down.
Ive been following you almost from the start of your channel. They are so many songs I have learned from your precise homewoirk, research, and teaching Ive lost count. Nobody on YT comes close to the presision. and detail you put into these songs. I know you have spent a lot of time and research on my favorite band the Beatles. I dont know how you do it. Thank you for the lessons and history you are greatly appreciated. Oh yes one more thing, I have just now noticed you are playing the bass left handed, now that is amazing. Thanks again and God bless you.
Mike, I love that you did the false start intro which was only on the Capitol stereo release. I always thought it was a great clever intro and surprised that they didn't realize that.
Hey from Bangkok. Loved the original false start. That was on my Rubber Soul album when first bought it, but was later edited out on subsequent pressings. I've been waiting for you to do this one. I had one chord that I had missed. Loved that McCartney did it live when I saw him in Vegas June 2011 at the MGM Grand Thanks.
I didn’t know about the false start until a couple of years ago, as the UK release didn’t have that. And hearing that McCartney lead part in isolation, I definitely see where Neil Innes got the bit for The Rutles It’s Looking Good.
many thanks Mike. Yet again, a great walk through this terrific song. It's hard to think that they spent so much time on it and didn't quite hit the mark. It seems George has been pushed into the background yet again.
You are one of my very favorite channels. How you hear all these parts is a mystery to me. Excellent attention to detail and way better than those DVD's I used to buy to learn the songs. Vous ettes le meilleure mec!
Professor nota 100! 👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👈
It’s certainly a testament to your popularity Mike I had to wade through numerous 20 second double ads to watch this. Nevertheless great as always cheers 🏴
Nothing better when it comes to messing around and playing something of the Beatles. Love the Back stories even more than your playing (Which is excellent). Still wish you would do some of the other guys, Gerry and the Pacemakers, Billy J. Kramer some time, maybe take a day off from the Beatles Having read both the Biographies of Billy J and Gerry Marsden it is obvious for a short time they were working with the same guys the Beatles were.
Great job Mike…..I reckon the rush to get the album finished caused the lack of care on polishing the track with their usual care. Even so it’s still a great track…..even under par Beatles are great!
This is intriguing. John and Paul putting a lot into this recording (I am always impressed that John came up with such great rhythm parts even though he doesn't seem to have thought of himself as much of a guitarist), but Ringo and George seeming to be just sitting in. I mean, when have you heard that Ringo wasn't keeping a perfect beat, even on a matchbox? And George just fiddling around while Paul takes the major lead guitar, which I would expect George to be able to do with no problem. Perhaps, as suggested in an earlier comment, some discontent was beginning to seep in.
You’re actually the best when it comes to Beatles lessons, that’s undeniable. I’ve never found your accuracy and dedition anywhere else on youtube. Is there any chance you could do a lesson for I’m Happy Just to Dance with You? I’m really curious about the guitar parts on that one especially the rythm guitar! I hope you’ll consider my request 🤗
@ale - "I’m Happy Just to Dance With You" is actually pretty high up on the request list. So I'll get to it. Next up is the current #1 request- "Devil In Her Heart."
thanks, great song,John's part is a little awkward doesn't exactly flow . George and Ringo phoning it in.probably sick of taping or baked or looking for a holiday.A top 5 Beatle album for sure.A guitar lesson for the whole world back in 65 I had a Stella acoustic.Love it!
Luv all yr very detailed break up of lil nuamces of Beatle tracks. When showing chords, wish u wud sing or hum along to make it more clear & display chords, espcly odd Voicings, live, on top.(I kknow all are in charts & tabs, but wud be more helpful)🙏❤️the matchbox part👌😊
Hey Mike, I've followed you for a few years now. Have you ever done a lesson on Happiness is a Warm Gun? I can figure it out but when it gets heavy, the guitar hits these chords heavily and they sustain seeming to increase in volume. I'm probably just playing it wrong. I thought they might be using a volume pedal. Anyway, I'd love to see you play it, if you haven't already put out a video of it.
Amazing detailed lesson! May I ask what APP you use to make your “sound alikes”? The multiple screens are like video overdubbing? On this song its very easy to see why George got so frustrated on McCartney songs, even so those licks he does are memorable. Thanks!
Re: George's sparse, "noodling" guitar part. Perhaps George was in a snit because Paul was playing the lead OR Paul played the lead because George wouldn't play it the way he wanted it. We'll probably never know. Anyhow, until your video I never thought about how seemingly haphazard this song is put together. Anyhow, I've always thought Paul's lyrics on this to be quiet Dylan like, with lines like "You were above me, but not today The only difference is you're down there I'm looking through you and you're nowhere"
Mike, i am from Liverpool and have always been a huge fan of the beats, and i was in a Beatles band 'THE CAVERN BEATLES' Way before it got silly with so many others doing the same thing. I must say that you have nailed all of the Beatle tunes like no one else can!!! Thank you!!!! what gauge strings on the J-160???
Do you think John really had a capo on or is this another song where they were playing with the varispeed and they actually played in G major? Thanks for all your work.
@david - I don't mean this sarcastically - but FYI - if varispeed was used I would have said so in the lesson. Having played guitar for more than 60 years, it's quite easy for me to hear when a capo is on a guitar neck. Plus - when varispeed is used - guitars have a very recognizable timbre.
@Sekaoh - And "you could argue" that looking at a solar eclipse on TV without wearing glasses could hurt your eyes." C'mon man - the sloppiness doesn't help out one iota...
@slide - Well, sorry to say you "always assumed" incorrectly. " How do (I) know?" George & Paul had radically different guitar styles. They're like night & day and easily distinguishable. That signature lead gtr. riff is 100% McCartney.
We're fortunate Mike has the range to sing the Paul numba's, otherwise he most likely wouldn't have a go! I’ve read how the boys were miffed when Capital Records reduced the original content of the record. Capital left off ‘Nowhere Man’ and ‘If I needed someone’. Two (in my opinion) better tracks than ‘Lookin through you’!
I always laugh. Youre a great teacher, but John's playing sloppy is what creates all those weird filter partially chords. I don't think they were intentional. The mix might be sloppy, but still one of my favorite songs of theirs.
I wonder if George didn't know the song, didn't like the song, or resented that Paul played the signature riff? Any one of these could account for his weak noodling.
@@MPfrance Right I know it was an overdub, but perhaps Paul told George not to play too much, because he (Paul) was going to overdub a lead guitar later.
