In 1963, the Beatles became famous all over Britain and in 1964, when they appeared on the Ed Sullivan variety show in the US, they became world famous. Capitol Records, the American branch of their record company, couldn't print this record fast enough to meet the demand and enlisted three rival record companies to help them.

Cimdy, thanks so much for reacting to one of my favorite Beatles songs of the wild Beatlemania years I remember so well; in particular, with this odd though catchy rock n' roll song, they slammed headlong into a somber and sad America, still reeling from the assassination of President Kennedy in late 1963. The Beatles gave us reason to smile and yell for joy again. When John and Paul were in the basement music room of the Asher residence in London, they were banging away on the piano. Then John stopped Paul and said, "Hey! Play those notes again." In that inauspicious moment, "I Wanna' Hold Your Hand" was born. George Harrison contributed clever guitar licks throughout, for which, at its recording, he received applause from the studio techs. Ringo worked his unbreakable back-beat while opening and closing his hi-hat on cue. In their subsequent concerts, the girls would shriek as one when the John and Paul repeated the crescendo, "I can't hide! I can't hide! I can't hiiiiiiiide!"

This is an unique song where it is shown very well how two lead voices literally rip off through fifth, when they sing the last "I can't hide" in the 1st chorus. This is a very rare effect that can only be achieved when the voices are very precise and have a similar energy.

I first heard this song in 1964 when I was seven years old. The way you looked while you listened to the song was just like the reaction of the two twin teenage girls who lived next door way back then in King City, CA. That sure says a lot about the music of the Beatles.

Wow, that is the best dance interpretation of this song that I've ever seen. This is exactly the kind of thing that I do sometimes when I listen to music and I've got a couple friends that are that way as well. And I say this as a musician, it just feels like you should be doing stuff like this you know? But anyway I was laughing my ass off, your facial expressions were freaking hilarious! I mean funny and sexy and really really hilarious at the same time! What a cool thing to do during a reaction.

At this time in their career none of them could read music. As time went on they did learn. They all were self taught on their instruments and had no formal education in music, music theory or music composition yet they went on to literally change the face of Pop, Rock music industry. Leonard Bernstein called them the upper crust of the rock and roll format, everything else was rubbish and he said that because of how creative the Beatles were in writing and arranging their music. He then goes on to list a very long list of things that The Beatles were doing that no other group was doing. His video on The Beatles is available on RU-vid. I found it fascinating! What those four guys achieved in only 7 years of recording is miraculous! 187 million records sold, (Elvis sold 156 mil, Garth Brooks sold 148 mil, Led Zeppelin sold 111.5 mil, just as a comparison), they have the most covered song in history, that being "Yesterday" which is in the Guinness Bock Of world Records as 2,200+ artists have recorded that song. We will never see their likes again.

I think it could be said that this is the song that made most young people in America sit up and take notice of these four lads from England who called themselves "The Beatles". We didn't know what we were in for. Nice reaction.
