I’m not a Ringo fan however; he was in a band with Lennon McCartney and Harrison. George fought hard for his place and Ringo was amazing at finding his place to sit the drums, keep the beat and mix in some awesome fills. This song in 6/8 time with sections of 4/4 are ridiculous. It predates metal and progressive rock. Incredible!!!!

Always interesting to see how great bands members met each other and how they developed. The 'right' people met each other and created magic. Alone or before that....they were 'ok' but that chemistry together...has given us some really great bands.That's how important who you meet and know...is. I've had friends that apart we were fine...together...we were absolutely toxic and downright dangerous to ourselves and anyone else.. And vice-versa. Everyone you meet and know...is chemistry. The first drummer was fired. They went down to London to audition for a recording contract. The record label told their manager the drummer wasn’t good enough, he told Paul, George, and John, and they were the ones who went to Pete Best and fired him, and then brought in Ringo. @@artistjoh They knew Ringo well as a natural pal and the best drummer in the top band in Liverpool at the time. Pete Best could thump the drums but was never part of the gang. John, Paul, George, and Stuart needed a drummer to go to Hamburg and persuaded Pete to go with then as the only one available. His style was OK for dingy dives but not for recording and he didn't fit in as a character. Ringo took a risk leaving his apprenticeship just before completion and took a step down to join play with Beatles - they came to him, not him applying to them. Fun fact - That was Billy Preston on organ. The days you do a Beatles song are good days, and this was a really good day. If I may make a few suggestions - While my Guitar Gently Weeps (George), I am The Walrus (John) and Eleanor Rigby (Paul). If you want to hear something Ringo, I'd suggest Octopus's Garden (which actually preceded I Want You on Abbey Road). Yellow Submarine is his most popular Beatles song but he actually wrote the other one.

@singlesideman
@singlesideman 3 года назад
As a musician I can tell you that what makes Ringo's drumming so exceptional isn't the rock steady timekeeping, although that's essential. It's that he plays the drums melodically, he actually composes percussion parts, and he never repeats himself, nor does he play more than is necessary. He complements the other melodic lines from the bass, guitars, vocals, keyboards, and other instruments and doesn't get in their way. He has a composer's ear. That's rare in a rock drummer - his experience with jazz is what really made the difference, and his economy is extraordinary - never too much. And the Fairchild compressor on his crash is amazing - the sound just blooms, like a tiny, quiet, dark atomic bomb explosion. Genius.

I Want You (She's So Heavy) is a song by The Beatles, from their album Abbey Road. It was written by John Lennon (with some creative input from Yoko Ono), although it is credited as a Lennon/McCartney collaboration. The song is an unusual Beatles composition for a variety of reasons, namely its length (nearly eight minutes), its disproportionately small number of lyrics (only seventeen different words are sung), its three-minute descent through the same repeated guitar chords (a similar arpeggiated figure appears in other Lennon contributions to the album, "Because" as well as McCartney's "Oh! Darling"), its hard rock sound, and for its instantaneous and unanticipated end. It is also one of the last songs that the Beatles mixed as a group, on August 20, 1969. David Gates writes of the song, "The hypnotically repeated guitar figure in 'I Want You (She's So Heavy)' is suddenly, arbitrarily cut off, jolting us into embarrassed awareness that we've let a mere recording carry us away." This is one of two songs on Abbey Road to feature Billy Preston playing organ, the other is Something. Credits John Lennon - Lead and Harmony Vocals, Lead Guitar (1965 Epiphone 230TD Casino), Moog Synthesizer Paul McCartney - Harmony Vocals and Bass Guitar (1963 Hofner 500/1) George Harrison - Harmony Vocals and Lead Guitar (1957 Gibson Les Paul Standard) Ringo Starr - Drums, Congas, Wind Machine Billy Preston - Hammond Organ (1964 Hammond Organ) From Beatles Wiki
