I bought this when it was first released and I don’t think I’ve encountered anyone calling this background swirling “white noise” because that’s about cancelling other sounds. But maybe there’s a back story I don’t know. I always knew it was a synthesizer but always thought of it as mimicking a swirling storm …

In my estimation , it can be multi interpreted , but for me it always had the connotation of the feeling that ( Heavy ) was as stated above as Deep or something that was complex but could be understood or as something to ponder mentally . IE deep in thought or content. Beyond the scope of just casual or simple thinking. In reference to Phila above, I never felt it carried a romantic or physical attraction to a person. More of a mystery.

Just for the historical record, Abbey Road was named after the studio where the album, and nearly all of the Beatles' recordings were made. The studio was actually named EMI Studios but was called Abbey Road because it was on Abbey Road. That's Abbey Road the Beatles are walking across. Because the album was so popular, they renamed the studio Abbey Road Studios.

I absolutely love that ending. It's a brilliant ending to a brilliant song. It's like they have a chance to be in this trance-like dream as they repeat those chords over and over, with everybody doing more and more fills and going nuts, and then it's like there's this rising wind that takes forever to arrive, but it's relentless and then it's like it's combined with an insect storm, and like sand blowing through the desert, it nearly obscures the music and becomes the main focus and it's just so cool. It's so atmospheric and it's so cinematic. And then as the wind storm reaches the crescendo, the listener is nearly hypnotized by now, and it abruptly cuts off and leaves you hanging. It's such a mind-fuck and it's wonderful ear candy.

Back in the 60s, if something was deep, it was called "heavy." You have a deep conversation with someone about something important, or you find out that your friend lost his job...it was "heavy, man.' It is John singing lead. Also, you have to be amazed because here the Beatles are singing and playing beautifully on a song John wrote as praise for Yoko....and they, very understandably, were not very happy about her or her self-insertion into the group and their studio time

I don't know if it's coincidental but this song has elements that remind me of what Miles Davis was doing at around the same time with Fusion Jazz, as in Bitches' Brew. And while not having what sounds like a funk bass line, it also has a funk-like feel to it. But in keeping with its name, it's certainly heavy, about as heavy as rock sounds got at the time. Gotta wonder how much Pink Floyd was influenced by it as they were already doing heavier tracks like Set the Controls For the Heart of the Sun and Careful With That Axe, Eugene, but I can see how albums like Dark Side and The Wall might have been influenced by it, even Meddle.
