Another "day in the life" of the Beatles in the recording studio. This time from October 18th 1964. The Beatles recorded several songs that day including I Feel Fine. Here is take 6 and take 7 of I Feel Fine, the photos were taken that day (Oct. 18th 1964), and shows how the Beatles were dressed, what they looked like, what instruments they played, and a little insight to the recording process while making this song. A valuable tool for all students of music, fashion, and historians who will enjoy the archival photos. Please subscribe so I can continue with this series of historic time capsules.

What's most amazing to me is the extreme swing feel on the guitar riff, it's a very hard shuffle, late dotted 8ths feel which really make it bounce against the less shuffle of the drum. Of course this could be the coolest guitar tone ever recorded. John's vocal is killer, plus of course the harmonies. This is a true masterpiece.

The first time I was able (as an adult) to see footage of them playing this live I was amazed that John and George took turns with the riff. John of course had the killer right wrist as evidenced in the triplets in Can't Buy Me Love, but he was an extremely capable all-around player.

Like most everybody here, I've been listening to The Beatles forever. And if there were just one song that expressed how it felt to be in "those idyllic times" in the 60s, and what it meant to be a Beatle/Beatle fan in the early days, this song is it for me. There were a few others that came close, but the more I hear this one song, the most it crystallizes those emotions. Just amazing. I am probably putting my own emotions on something that John and Paul tossed off on a whim but they sure nailed it, didn't they?

I've read over and over again that John Lennon was not that great of a guitarist -- but I'd be very proud to be able to play guitar like he does in this song. That riff is his. George plays the solo but John's guitar (and Ringo's terrific drumming) carries the song throughout. Still one of my all-time favourite Beatle tracks.

John Lennon is classic as one of the world's best rhythm guitar players ever!! His use of chords and strumming is like no other, pure raunchy and punchy, without that, the Beatles would not be the Beatles, wherever you read that, I think they must have been messed up because that is terribly wrong

For all the incredible music they produced both before and certainly after this song, “I Feel Fine” remains my favorite, going back to its release when I was in 8th grade. I was of course immediately attracted by the reverb, and then sucked in by the guitar intro. But as a drummer, I was thoroughly transfixed by the rhythm-which, as we now know, Ringo came up with on the 7th take (genius!)-and then the vocals (both lead and harmony) completed what I still think is the most perfect recording they ever did. I think in 1965 we finally realized that The Beatles weren’t just the most popular music group in the world, they were simply at a different level from everyone else-it wasn’t a competition any more. Thanks for this peek into their creative process!

I'm an old guy now and I've been listening to this song since it was released. It's a rock masterpiece but the one little bit that I love the most is hearing Johns voice when he sings the line "She's so glad, she's tellin' all the world". That slight little touch of vibrato in his voice when, in a descending scale he sings the words "...all the world" is a little touch of absolute vocal perfection. That tiny little snippet of singing has, to me, always been the perfect diamond upon which the vocals of the whole song rest on. It has always caught my ear!

I was in the 7 th. grade when this song came out that fall. I remember the grade 6s 7sand 8s had a dance in the gym, and this was just one of the many Beatle records that was played on one of the kid's portable record players, set up on the stage ! It reverberated around the WHOLE gym - ESPECIALLY that first beautiful, twanging /feedback note - it was just wonderful !!! :) Like 'A Hard Day's Night' you knew the song from that FIRST distinctive note/chord ! One of my favourite Beatle songs. Absolutely brilliant. There is no discernable precedent for this song. I can't think of anything that came before that it's based on. He did not have a classically modulated voice and I think there'd be some snobbery against himself there. Paul for example had a less nasally and more rounded sound than John. John was certainly inspired to 'match' Paul so what may have seemed a problem for John actually made him work harder I think. He has a great voice for certain songs as does Paul for certain others. Agree with all of the contributions that praise their harmonies - all that time in Hamburg gave them the time to fine tune their musical abilities, with almost no pressure. The stars aligned.

When I was just a pup I figured out how to make the guitar feedback the same way John did, by accident. I was playing around with the Gibson ES-335 one day and got too close to the Kustom amp we had back then. All of a sudden it started humming. I said shit, that sounds just like the beginning of "I Feel Fine." Eventually I figured out it was the A note in the song and could pull it off pretty good. Ah, the good old days. 😁
@MyDrugHell
@MyDrugHell 2 года назад
If you want to really nail the effect try it on a Gibson J160 acoustic into an amp. That's how they did it and it's much easier to get it to feed back.
@itinerantpatriot1196
@itinerantpatriot1196 2 года назад
@@MyDrugHell I'm sure you're right. George talked about John initially using an acoustic (I think he said it was an Epiphone) to get the effect. The ES-335 is hollow but quite a bit thinner so I could see where the effect would be greatly enhanced using a wider body instrument. Unfortunately, the acoustic I had back in the day didn't have a pickup. Still, I have a lot of fond memories from that time as far as playing goes. Everything was so new. To be young again, even for a day.
