Many compare this album to the introduction of Color TV that replaced Black and White TV. Suddenly EVERYTHING was never the same.

Music changed forever with this album. Totally iconic in every respect.

You have to understand what you are listening to was groundbreaking for its time..in fact it completely changed music and how we listen to it

This Lp is iconic, one of the landmark recordings in the history of popular culture. This was the game changer when pop music was suddenly looked at as an art form. Imagine being a teen in the US when this record dropped here in early June, 1967. This record kicked off the "Summer Of Love" here in the US. Hippie culture literally exploded with the release of this record and this album was the soundtrack of that summer. Here's the deal young lady. The proper way too listen to The Beatles is chronologically from 1963 with their first Lp "Please Please Me" up through 1969 with "Abbey Road" which you've done too truly appreciate the growth of this band in just 7 years. No band has ever even come close to what they accomplished even through today and I promise you that it will never happen again and you can take that to the bank. I would love too see you check out "Help" released in August of 1965. This was the quintessential pop record of that year up to that point. This was when their music began to mature from the previous year. Catchy song after catchy song and then please, please "Rubber Soul" released just 4 months later on December 2, 1965. Lennon called this one the pot album and is kind of a must. Next "Revolver" released on August 6th, 1966 and is absolutely iconic and was their first marijuana and LSD record. Many critics feel that Pepper is the greatest Lp of all time while many others say "Revolver" I tend to lean towards "Revolver". Now, if "Strawberry Fields Forever" and "Penny Lane" we're on "Pepper" like they were supposed too be then I would lean toward "Pepper". These two songs released as a single in early 67 as a double A Side is still regarded as the greatest single in history. Are you beginning too see a theme here, "Pepper's" the greatest Lp ever, no it's "Revolver" is and these two songs are the greatest single in history. Pretty heady stuff, wouldn't you agree? In your lifetime you will never see another Beatles. They were and still are simply one offs and not gonna happen again. They are that damn special ! Hope too see these down the road, you would really enjoy these records and you do a great job on your reactions. ☮️✌️💕👌

This is probably the most revolutionary album ever released. It is hard for a contemporary audience used to disposable pop music to really understand how much The Beatles over their career and this album in particular changed the entire world.

From the straight rocking "Back in The USSR" "Everybody's Got Something to Hide Except Me and My Monkey" and "Revolution" to the quirky "Rocky Raccoon" and "Bungalow Bill" to the hard driving chaos of "Helter Skelter" to the oddities of "Piggies" and "Why Don't We Do It In The Road" to the beautiful tenderness of "I Will" and "Julia". Yes, it's all here and why I'm never far from this fabulous album!

Fun reaction... I enjoyed it. Something that is hard for a modern first-time listener to realize is just how ground-breaking "Sgt. Pepper's" was. The Beatles were the top entertainment act in the world at the time, but the group had gone quiet for months. Then Sgt. Pepper's dropped and everyone played it at once. It didn't sound like any other pop music at the time. The level of experimentation that the Beatles did (while still keeping it melodic and telling stories) was just shocking. A song that sounds like a circus? You get high with a little help from your friends? Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds??? When I'm 64??? (Our grandparents were 64, and the Beatles got us to think about what it would be like to be our grandparents' age.) And "A Day in the Life" with its detached vocals and menacing orchestra -- there was nothing else that sounded like it. The entire world of popular music pivoted around this album... this album is why people say, "there was pop music before the Beatles, and there was pop music after the Beatles." Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band is the point where "pre-Beatles" became "post-Beatles." Listening to today's music, you hear all kinds of sounds and song structures, which makes the Beatles sound interesting but not astonishing. But it was the Beatles who made experimenting with sounds and structures a popular thing in pop music -- it just wasn't done before. That is the legacy of the Beatles. Well... one of the legacies, anyway.

Sgt. Pepper's was the first pop music album to have the lyrics printed on the album (sleeve), Nobody took pop including rock music serious enough before 1967.

Great reaction to a great album. A little triva for you which is rather spooky. In 1963 on a British TV show called Ready Steady Go, there was a miming and dance competition to a song called Jump The Broomstick won by a 14 year old Melanie Coe. The judge who chose her and presented the prize was none other than Paul McCartney! She's the very same Melanie Coe that She's Leaving Home is about!!

You should check out "Revolver" the album that was released one year earlier in 1966, when they were really transitioning from being the world's number one touring pop band to experimental, serious studio musicians. All brilliant tunes. Thank you for a joyous and intelligent reaction.

George Martin always said leaving Penny Lane and Strawberry Fields off this was their biggest mistake. That's the only thing that prevents me deeming it their best album.

Bruna's reaction here was very similar to mine back in 1967 when I first listened to it. I was emotionally overwhelmed - the richness of the ideas, the strange even almost discordant nature of the music, the totally new sound of it. Above all there was this sense of the surreal, the transcendental even though (or perhaps because) the themes were often the everyday, the mundane, stories in a newspaper. We could all relate. The sequencing (eg When I'm 64 immediately after Within You, Without You) invited readings of each song that questioned any superficial assumption about their meanings. I would say that it took several listenings for me to "get" some of the tracks - this was a feature of Beatles albums from Revolver on. It was actually a secret pleasure - that moment when a track's modulations, discordant harmonies or uneven meter suddenly made total sense. So yes, whilst now it might seem a period piece in some ways it was indeed a very significant event in cultural history. Nothing was the same after it. And all recorded on 4 track tape!

she's leaving home is my Pepper fave, but what would this introspective album be without within you without you? This album opened cracks and filled holes of our worlds in 1967. My life was/is before/after Peppers.

I lived through that period. When it comes time to introduce my grandsons to it, I don't know how I could describe the screaming fans in the transition from the opening track to "A Little Help From my Friends". I mean that the fans would actually scream over half a century ago.

"A Day in the Life" is my favourite Beatles track It's mainly a John Lennon song with an unfinished Paul song stuck in the middle John's son is about the triviality of the news - the Beatles just lost a friend in a traffic accident (he blew his mind out in a car) and in the same newspaper is trivia about all the potholes in the roads in Blackburn Lancashire The friend who died - Tara Browne, 21.

Called " the most ambitious and most successful record album ever issued, " SPLHCB contained so many firsts, it's difficult to name them all. First album to contain written lyrics for instance. An astounding achievement!

You must have really good ears. During Good Morning Good Morning you said it almost sounded German. 😆 you are totally right! The Beatles spoke broken German after staying there so many times and in the master tapes they are saying 'guten morgan' as well as good morning during the chorus! It's pretty buried in the mix but you definitely spotted it!

Great reaction. I like the way you look into the songs after listening so you can understand them better. When the album was on a record the last "carnival sounds" at the end of the album were in the bottom grooves of the album so it would repeat over and over till you turned it off.

I was 10 when the album came out. Next to the White Album, it’s one of their best. The White Album & Abbey Road were recorded pretty much at the same sessions.

This album was from an idea that what if the Beatles produced an album under another name other than the Beatles, according to an interview with Paul McCartney. Similarly, Sgt. Peppers was McCartneys reaction to Pet Sounds by The Beach Boys . Heater Skelter (White Album) was part of that reaction.

The second (reprise) version of Sgt. Peppers Hearts Club Band was apparently, the Beatles playing live in the studio.

When it came out in mid-1967, it was revolutionary. Unless you know what rock was going through at the time, you won't understand how important it was.

The drawing for "Lucy in the Sky" actually exists. Lennon wrote like that as a kid.

"Never could be any other way" -- That strange bit of laughter at the end contains a dog whistle tone -- 15kHz -- so it might make any dogs within ear shot bark when played on a stereo. It was placed on the vinyl record in what is called the "run-out groove" or the "lead-out groove" which usually would guide the phonograph to stop playing the record but in this case it would loop over and over as a reminder to get up and turn the record over and play the album again from the beginning.

This is still listed as one of the greatest albums in rock history. Paul's idea was that by pretending to be someone else, they could free themselves up to be more creative. Years later, George used the same idea when he formed The Traveling Wilburys. The Wilburys even took on fake names as well. The final chord on the piano was several people on several pianos all striking the same chord at the same time. The sustain on it was so long, they kept increasing the gain on the microphones, to the point where you can hear studio noise at the end. The very last part of the album was from the vinal. When the record ended, it would play that sound over and over until you lifted the needle.

The pre-Ringo, flat broke Beatles made their bones in Hamburg in 1960 so it's absolutely likely that John Lennon put "guten morgen" into the lyrics as a kind of self-referencing, nostalgic joke - and as a gentle tribute to Germany, of course.

Track 4 - so hard to sum up in a few words - but the message is about finding 'Home' in a rain drenched, leaky house, in a barren corner of Scotland - so real events are woven into the lyrics - of a man being driven too hard and pressured to much - but then discovering a whole new world, where those "unworldly things" really don't matter...

Fall down the Beatles rabbit hole!!!!

If you are going to listen on headphones the 2017 50th anniversary remix of this album is a must-listen. I think you might be listening to the original stereo mix, which although passable when heard through speakers sounds comparably poor on headphones, with lots of empty space and dubious left/right stereo imaging with the lead vocal often panned harshly one way and the instruments on the other. Listening on headphones only serves to accentuate such peculiar sounding sonic deficiencies. Some people don't think much of the 50th Anniversary mixes, but I think for a modern audience who may primarily listen on earbuds they are a real improvement. Ah well...it's a brilliant and revolutionary album however you hear it!!! I really enjoyed your reaction...thanks for putting it out there 😀✌️

Just a note about Lucy, she was a real person and she was a friend of Julian Lennon until she died, at a young age, of Lupus. That's the reason Julian is now an ambassador for the Lupus Foundation...

I recommend you look up the full story about the girl in 'She's Leaving Home'. It is just one of the weird coincidences that seemed to happen to the Beatles time and time again.

what was hilarious about Good Morning was the animal sounds. it's starts out with dogs, leads to farm animals, ok, I get it, the Rooster crows, "good morning." Then suddenly you hear Elephants. On a farm?😂

Track three - low in the mix is a Lennon Vocal - "it can't get no worse" - this is an important 'anti-sugarcoating-Sweetness' that is an important part of the message.

Hey girl sorry I'm late to the game here but that little ending after the last cord was played on in a day in a life was a loop on the inner vinyl when records were played if you had a record player that didn't have an automatic tone arm it would stay in that inner Groove and go back and forth and if you record it on to that it would just keep repeating and repeating that over and over again and that's what they did is they put that funny little Sonic clip in there and I believe that it was like a party they recorded somewhere and then what they did is they took cellos and whatever the girl was saying the woman you know saying I couldn't see it any other way and then people are laughing the background they played cellos you know they were the exact same notes of her voice the inflection in her voice all right girl that was great I'm glad you enjoyed that it's probably one of the best things that's ever been recorded

I'd highly recommend anyone doing a reaction to Sgt Peppers, Abbey Road or the White Album (or just listening for pleasure) to listen to the 2017 (Pepper), 2018 (White) and 2019 (Abbey) remix versions of the albums. Not a lot of thought was put into the original stereo mixes and I think this became more clear when the digital versions came out - and doubly so in headphones. Search the albums/songs with 'remix' and/or 2017/18/19 (edit - that said, this sounds like vinyl!)

This album belongs with other artworks like the book "Steppenwolf" by Herman Hesse and the movie "The Discreet Charm of the ourgeoisie" by Luis Bunuel. In a circus world where spiritual and materialistic values clash, the Beatles would "love to turn you on" to a little social satire.

It is worth noting that the mono versions of the albums up until abbey road are the only mxing sessions the beatles were present for and involved in. The mono versions are far superior to the stereo versions until abbey road.

I agree that Pet Sounds is an amazing album. Brian Wilson (Beach Boys) come in second only to The Beatles. But Pet Sounds did not change the world or music. The public totally rejected it because it didn't sound like The Beach Boys. It wasn't until many years later that Pet Sounds got the recognition it deserved. By that time music, and the world had changed because of Sgt. Pepper. The world was not ready to accept the new sound of The Beach Boy at that time. This cause Brian Wilson to go into depression for many years. So sad.

Mr Kite was almost word for word read from an old circus poster John had found. Day in the life was John reading headlines from the morning paper. John had adopted very simple, lazy, and hasty songwriting at this point. All you need is love was written the day before.

To get a proper perspective on how the Beatles developed over the years 1963 to 1970 you really need to react to the earlier songs as well. Listen to "I saw her standing there", "Yesterday" Eight days a week", "All my loving", "I feel fine", "Day tripper". There are many others.

Could you react to Jeff Buckley's first and only studio album "Grace" it's such a beautiful work of art that inspired many artists like radiohead and lana del rey. Jeff passed away after the albums release and is considered one of the best albums of all time and a landmark in 90s music wich helped evolve the sounds of rock at the time

Ringo singing. One story that had come out was that Ringo's singing voice was limited: he could only hit five notes. So, as the story goes, every song they wrote for Ringo could only use those five notes. At least that's the story I heard.

Paul came from a musical family where they would play anything. Gets so slatted it's ridiculous. All the hype. All the way down to Ringo. He does great albums and Yoko. ❤
