@@RockessentialTim I may not live in Southern California anymore but it will always be my home. I was lucky/blessed to have been born in Orange County CA. in 1958 just 7 miles from the beach. Out of my friends in high school I was the only one born in Southern California .And sadly some of those friends are no longer with us but man we sure had some "fun" while they were here.

Just wanted to say that I live in the UK and every time I watch a Hiking4Life video the sun seems to shine here .☀️ I love most of the music from this era although it was just before I was born (I am now 50 !). I also love the San Francisco bands as well. A fabulous decade from about 1964 to 1974. As the years went by I have liked fewer and fewer records until now there is nothing that interests me being released (and I do look for it). It is so sad but it makes me treasure those old recordings so much now. There have been some great 50th Anniversary editions of classic albums in the last 5 years and I am waiting for "If I could only remember my name" later this month.

Mention on Harry Nilsson in the Three Dog Night video and some others here reminds me that it was apparently Harry who was the catalyst for a major shift in rock music when he introduced George Harrison to Delaney & Bonnie at one of their LA club dates. Impressed, the next night - with D&B's approval - Harrison recorded their gig on a portable tape recorder. He also wanted to have the duo and their band on the Beatles' Apple label, though that didn't happen. Back in England, when Eric Clapton mentioned he was needing an opening act for the Blind Faith tour, Harrison played him the D&B tape. Not only did they get the gig, Clapton ended up joining their band, thus contributing to the demise of Blind Faith at the end of the tour. When D&B played the UK, Harrison asked if he could join the entourage (Dave Mason was already onboard). When the tour finished, the band minus Bobby Whitlock left to join Joe Cocker's Mad Dogs & Englishmen, which also included former D&B alumni Leon Russell, Jim Keltner and Jimmy Karstein, the latter adding drums alongside Jim Gordon. Clapton retreated home to nurse his bad habits. At the persuading of Booker T & the MGs guitarist/songwriter (co-wrote 'Dock of the Bay', 'Soul Man', 'Midnight Hour' etc.) Steve Cropper, Bobby Whitlock flew (ticket courtesy of Cropper) to the UK and hooked up with Clapton...which led to the formation of Derek & the Dominos - all from D&B's band...which Harrison used as the house band for his 'All Things Must Pass' album. His time with D&B also set Clapton on his solo career, with his self-titled debut album, w/hits 'After Midnight' and 'Let It Rain', essentially being a D&B album w/Clapton singing. The effect of Nilsson introducing Harrison to D&B can still be heard today with the Tedesch-Trucks Band, who cover their 'Coming Home' and Mad Dogs' 'Space Captain' and 'The Letter' amongst others.

Great stories. When I go to California I always get away from LAX ASAP and head down to Lake Elsinore. But great history in LA, so next time....Going to do some name dropping here. I live in South Oxfordshire about 7 miles from Henley on Thames where Friar Park is located. The smaller gatehouse at Friar Park is bigger than my house. George's wife still lives there. I never saw George, although friends of mine did back in the day and one sold George's brother a VW Polo. I have however seen both Tony Hicks (Hollies) and Liam Gallagher in Henley. Never approached them though, got to respect their privacy. (you wouldn't say hi to Gallagher....his whole demeanour says 'keep your distance'). Russel Brand is also local and owns a pub, The Crown, at Pishill. Yes, it's where the old stagecoaches used to stop to let the passengers have a leak. Michael Caine lived at Little Stoke which is about 3 miles from me - not a rockstar, though! In the early 70's a friend (the same who sold George's brother the VW) used to fish at Pangbourne on Thames, 2 miles down the hill from me. Led Zeppelin were in their infancy and used to go to Jimmy Page's house on the lock at Pangbourne to jam. He claims to have heard the first versions of Stairway...maybe, maybe not. Pete Townshed had a recording studio near Goring on Thames, also 2 miles away. My sons went to school at the Primary there. One day 'Uncle Pete' pitched up to do some 'research'. The Head was overjoyed to have a rock god on site. Shortly afterwards Uncle Pete hit the headlines for all the wrong reasons, although he was found not guilty....George Michael famously lived, and died, at Goring on Thames in a riverside mansion just near the Thames bridge leading to Streatley. Again, our paths never crossed but locals I know and who met him in the village said he was a very nice, approachable, normal-type guy. Vivian Stanshall of the Bonzo's was born in Shillingford, about 5 miles away. Another Bonzo (Legs I think) is fairly local. A friend of mine worked in a nearby pub and used to serve him. Her Dad was amazed when, once looking at the TV, the Bonzo's came on and his daughter told him that she 'knew that man'. Finally, The Springs at South Stoke was once owned, I've heard, by Cozy Powell and is 'allegedly' the place where the Rolls went into the pool. I say allegedly because it might just be B.S. unlike the rest of my story. Off to take my meds now - bye lol.

If I am hearing you correctly, at 1:51 you are claiming the Beatles did not meet Derek Taylor until 1965; that is just plainly incorrect. Mr. Taylor was hired by Brian Epstein in early 1964 to serve as the Beatles' press officer. Derek also helped ghost write Brian's autobiography, "A Cellerful of Noise" in 1964. Also, at the start of Beatlemania in Britain in 1963 he worked with George Harrison on inside stories about the Beatles for a newspaper column. I appreciate your dedication to the Beatles with your videos but felt I needed to correct the obvious misinformation spoken.

Question...who is Randy?...also, the last home you showed us belonged to Cass Elliot...I feel bad for her...she was quite pretty, but obviously had a real weight problem...So people around her just had to relegate her to being "Mama", and she had to assume the sexless role of being the "hostess" to the stars.,,Truth was, she was far and away the best singer in her group...but "image" is always such a big deal in show business.
