Absolutely agree with you, its sounds fantastic and you are in for a treat with the second disc too, it really demonstrates what great musicians they were. Apparently the vinyl sound better than the CD version due to compression. Its hard to believe that it was recorded 50 years ago !

Great review. I was overwhelmed as well. Loving this mix, and I have the vinyl and the big box set with the 5.1 mix, that's very immersive.

I was exactly the same when I first listened to my copy and it got me thinking that that must have been what it was like for the first generation that heard it 50 years ago. I mean I know we all know the album backwards but this is such a huge experience and so overwhelming its not hearing the songs for the first time but then again in some ways it is a bit. Whoops Im rambling but hopefully you know what I mean. Now then Apple what about the same treatment with the rest of the Beatles catalogue ?

Bought my 2017 SPLHCB, thanks to your review, Mr. Stripey Rambles. I'm a Brazilian English teacher, Beatles fan since the beginning. Back to lps, back to the old days. Now, I'm waiting. Looking forward to the day when I'll have my Anniversary Edition of the greatest album in the world.

very nice review. I could see you were absolutely blow away by the whole experience. Just as a side note, the LP was completely remixed from the individual tracks and then remastered. Mastering is the process in which the mix down of the tracks is either Mono or Stereo (or other crazy shite), and then processed for the media is will be distributed. (Vinyl, CD, Download, Streaming). Again, absolutely beautiful review!

Hi Stripey - Don't fret too much about not having the super deluxe box, yet. The double LP is where it's at as far as the remix goes. The box is cool for the out-takes, documentary, book, & other goodies. I can't speak for the 5.1, as I don't have the setup for it. But, I like the vinyl remix waaaaay more than the CD.

The first time I heard "Pepper" back in 1967 was both cool and scary! The Fabs had gone so far off into another universe that it took a bit of listening (several listens) before I could really get into it. There was nothing like it then...there is nothing like it now!

Great review as usual Stripey. I too was blown away with the remix (on cd), looking forward to purchasing the vinyl. Being 'old school' I think this album needs to be listened to on speakers (like yourself) to get the full effect of the re-mix. The White Album is due to be done next & I hope they do Abbey Rd too😊

Coming on the 53rd Anniversary of Sgt. Pepper. I can vividly remember awaiting the delivery of the Super Deluxe Anniversary edition 3 years ago this very day. Still dig the remix! Fantastic indeed! Hope you give it a play this week.

Annnnnd... like all other compilations from the music of that era (the Sixties and Seventies).. all the new-generation listeners will enjoy this collection as it plays back at a slightly HIGHER speed and/or audio-pitch than the original-released recordings, which others grew up with and remember listening to on vinyl-records, tapes or on the radio. They won't know it, of course, because they themselves didn't grow up around the time these recordings were originally made and released. To them... all the newer re-masters sound 'normal' in tonal-pitch, since it's the only version they ever heard. So there's nothing to be suspicious over. For some unGodly reason which only the secret Cabal of audio remastering-technicians know about, a lot of old musical recording tapes and remasters seem to suffer from an inexplicable slight rise in the playback-pitch, in many cases a half-step in tone or higher! A MYSTERY still yet unsolved (and most likely will never be acknowledged or corrected).

I own every Beatles UK release on vinyl they put out when they were together, except for Sgt. Peppers. Originally I wanted to find an original US pressing in Stereo and then also buy the 2009 remastered in mono. That was before the news of this 50th anniversary release. Yes I've heard many of the songs on Pepper but I have never listened to it from start to finish. After watching your review I'm thinking that this new release would be the ultimate way to do that.

I've had that vinyl pressing for over 5 years now, and it was only recently I discovered, in the dead wax that the remix was mastered at 1/2 speed. The same goes for Abbey Road. I haven't checked Revolver, White, or Let it Be just yet, but they probably were half-speed masters as well. I've just ordered a Half-Speed master LP of Tommy which should be delivered any day. Can't wait to hear it.

My very patient gf has gotten me a new vinyl player for my bday. only have to wait til the 14th!!! Enjoy!!!

And now it's gonna be White Album's turn. It will be out this month and guess who's behind the remaster.. Giles Martin again! I can't wait to get it. People sell the White Album like it was literally gold! And it is artistically speaking, but prices for a used copy are just nuts.

I don't think the Deluxe Edition is really worth it, maybe if it was 4 vinyl instead of CD though the rest looks good. Hoping it comes down in price, but it's The Beatles it will probably go up.

Stripey, it seems you dont realise who GILES MARTIN is? His Father produced this original album in 1967. Previously, just for the record, Giles did the "mash up" of the LOVE album, the guy is gifted with Sam Okel as his right hand man! Can I recommend the the Box set, it is fantastic and full of information! George Martin did NOT produce one track on this album, which one was it and who produced it??????????????? (So you can't find it too easy on the Net) 😉👍😄😷🤣😅🎶😐🎶🎼🎶🎼🎶🎼 P.S. Love your visual effects👍😁😉📸

you made a mistake you didnt review the songs

I think it has same issues most remixes have (excepting HELP! and Rubber Soul remixed by George Martin for the 1987 CDs and the same mix that was used for the 2009 remaster CD package.) Sounds sterile to me since they have so much time to dicker with it. To me the balance is off and focuses too much on the right channel... I’ll still take the original 1967 Stereo mix...

It makes you wish albums by other artists could undergo this treatment, especially The Zombies Odyssey & Oracle. The mono sounds fine, but that stereo version 🤢
