Here's a lesson on "You Can't Do That" by the Beatles. All the guitar parts you need to play this great song. Chart & tabs at: www.MikePachelli.com
I misspoke in the intro section when I said this was the 1st song John wrote without Paul. It was the 2nd. As I said in my "Please Please Me" lesson - THAT was the 1st song John wrote without Paul.

I know less than nothing about playing the guitar or anything else for that matter, but I love Mike’s explanations/demonstrations of what I have been hearing for the last 60 years without really being able to appreciate it. I have gained even more respect for the Beatles if that is even possible, through this channel. Well done Mike and thank you.

Another illusion shattered - I always thought the solo was by George, by George! In the recent documentary, Lennon even derides his own lead playing (I think he was talking about the song “Get Back”). Great backup singing by the Pachelli twins!

So elusively simple sounding. The early Beatles was some of the first rock I heard when I was a kid in the overproduced, synth/drum machine awashed 80's. It was an intro to what happens when groove, rock and rythm meets harmony/melody.

Wow, MP. This has always been one of my favorite Beatles songs. Great song and GREAT execution by the boys, vocally and instrumentally. Didn't know it was John's first song written without Paul. I assumed George had done the wonderful guitar solo. Very impressive what John did. What a pleasure to behold your explanations and demonstrations. Thank you.

Dan McMahon - Thanks Dan - I actually misspoke - "Please Please Me" was actually the 1st song John wrote without Paul. I knew that but apparently had a brain fart whilst videotaping the lesson. Sorry 'bout that. And yea - VERY impressive solo John played on "You Can't Do That."

Thanks Mike for this explanation. I've played George's part same way you explained, with a Beatles tribute band that invite me to play this song with my Rick in their live show in Argentina. As you say this is a pure John's rock-and-roll song, and I love it. Great job. I follow your videos.

Thanks Mike! I really like the format and instruction of your videos. Your love for the skill, creativity, and musical brilliance of The Beatles is what repeatedly draws me to your site. Your lessons and attention to detail are incredibly informative. I immediately pick up my guitar and try to incorporate all that I’ve just observed and learned. Rather than complicate the simple, you simplify the complicated so that mere mortals like me can learn the songs of my musical idols. Your performance at the end is a great, enthusiastic culmination of all things explained previously. Your lesson has a beginning, a middle, and an end, and it so aptly mirrors the song that you just taught. By the way, I really appreciated the close up of George’s brilliant, always tasteful outro of this song. As always, I’m left in awe and wonder at the musical magic The Beatles created. Thanks again, Mike. As an aside, I would also really enjoy a site dedicated to Paul’s incomparable bass playing and to Ringo’s amazing drumming.

You really nailed all the parts, then proceed to record them and lay down an amazing vocal track full of the feel and vibe of John Lennon. Very impressive! Also caught a video on your website playing with Jeff Berlin. Really nice jazz performance. Great video. And for sure, The Beatles are probably the main reason why Rickenbacker is still around making quality instruments. John started it off with his 32x models. George carried it on with the 3xx/12 model which was then adopted by several other Merseybeat groups. Meanwhile Jim McGuinn took is his cue from Harrison and took the 3xx/12 models to the next level. And McCartney gave the Rickenbacker Bass a nice kick along with his famous 4001 bass.
