CCTV and BBC jointly produced a 6-episode documentary called Wild China. You could watch it, and the scenes of China in this documentary are very beautiful. This kind of beauty is exactly what the west hope China to be, wild, primitive, and backward. In this documentary, it is completely unclear that China is the world's largest industrialized country.
@@robinzzs Otherwise, you think the BBC would be willing to join in? Unless BBC can portrait the place like the wild wild world African safari with yesteryear's nostalgia, it wouldn't be politically correct.
You will inspire many western people to explore China and build a good understanding instead of hatred. I myself was influenced by western culture since I was a young kid, so I can say that I understand western culture more than western understand us, the Chinese. I hope your videos will continue to help western people to learn more about China. By the way, your Chinese pronunciation is amazing, I am kinda shocked.
I wish I'm living, studying and working in a paradise like this. I feel like visiting this place again on my PC screen after visiting Yangshuo nearly 6 years ago. Also, love the translator pen, it's so intelligent and much much better than Google Translate.
traveling and learning something new in a place like this for a period of time/growing up here is two complete different feeling. my friend🤭 but low cost of living and high standard of life quality is true
They forgot that basic fact that Chinese are people, People can be happy, they also forgot that China is a country and a country can be developing and harmonious
Not that they forgot. They just don’t think Chinese or Asians should. You can call it what you want but discrimination and glass ceiling are nothing new in the west. You have to work harder and perform much better to get the job.
@@TAL142 it’s not like Chinese aren’t working hard enough already. Most of the west still doesn’t want others to have what they have, or can not tolerate the thought of it at the very least.
@@admirali.a.6175 Basically the attitude is people can have the bread crumbs US is willing to give you but US has to determine your path. Just like Toshiba was big in semi-conductor but US forced them to sell and let them keep some key components. And US has so much turmoil internally and they want to make the same mess globally. They used whatever to divide including racism and wars. The NGOs are one of their weapons. They are mostly funded by government and run by ex-government officials.
I've seen White people on the internet literally say Asians are an inferior race. They don't want to see any Asians/Chinese succeed. I've also experienced it multiple times in my 30 years in NYC. They may not say it to your face most of the time but you can tell by their attitude and body language conveying that thought. No it's not EVERY non-Asian people doing that, but there's more than enough of them. That's why there are a lot of self hating Asians in the West. They don't want to face this kind of discrimination constantly and want to become fully assimilated (White) and reject their Asian roots.
What a stunning beautiful landscape you are surrounded with! You are so lucky to be able to study Chinese language at young age in such beautiful and relax environment. I wish I can be retired right now and buy a property in this place. Any place with water, mountain/hills, cannot go wrong. I hope they keep this place not too crowded or too commercial. China has definitely changed for the better. Years ago, rural place like this did not look this organized and clean. Now it looks so nice and neat and well maintained. This is so much prettier than what I have seen in other parts of Asia. Thank you so much for sharing the beautiful China that people cannot see from the bias Western media. It is sad, that the Western media is so mean to China and Chinese people and people actually believe what the crap they spread out there. Please keep doing what you are doing in showing us what you see and experience in China that we cannot see outside of China through the Western media.
Yes, I think life and beauty should have nothing to do with politics. At least what we think is beautiful should be reported transparently and publicly. This is also a part of Chinese culture, inclusive of all rivers, tolerance is great, tolerance, coexistence, and truthfulness. Hope the world becomes better, work hard together, and feel the beauty of the world.
@Peter Williams You can take a short leave and go to visit Yangzhou before you decide to stay there for a long time or not. Of course, It is a terrific place that many people want to settle there, not matter they are Chinese or westerners.
For real 6:09-6:30 I just love how clean and tidy the street is, almost mistaken it as Japan for a moment!😍 Just wow! Is this even a county?😳 It's fascinating how developed and modern this is with "urban" town design, multi-storey housings and offices, modernized public services and facilities to an extent, high standard private school(?), etc. For example, my hometown which is supposedly a provincial capital city itself, is not even close to a "mere" Chinese county like this! And fyi, a Chinese county is close to a district in Indonesia.. but Yangshuo is just as developed and, if more beautiful than many regencies/cities in our country here😍☺️
Oli, China is maturing you and instilling in you wisdom beyond your years by providing abundance of culture, safety and dynamism. You lucked out and chose more correct paths than wrong. Happy for you and your dad.
That scan pen is amazing! I wish I got something like this when I was studying Chinese in 2001! I ordered a dish which I thought it's beef...but turned out to be bull frogs.....lol
5:58 as a Chinese. They are typical amateur chess players on the street. The red side grabbed the offensive, but black has more offensive pieces and fewer defensive pieces, but the defensive formation is very good. Not surprisingly, the player playing black will win.
I love your videos mate. That is correct I have just completed high school and I have completely become a different person. and I guess that's the same for my other mates too.
Olly, you have no idea how jealous and envious I am of you!! My husband and I did the 3Gorges Dam Tour in 2014. We boarded in Yangshuo. What exquisite memories you have awakened in me by this video. My friend, enjoy every moment of your life in China. It's a beautiful country in every way. Thanks for this video. Jia you !
That shoe fixer on the sidewalk reminds me of my time in my hometown in southern Philippines when I was younger. We have those people and back then people aren't so into consumerism and so keeping a quality old shoes was common and this trade was really common. You see them fixing shoes here and there and waxing them in the end. But now so many bargain shoes are available you don't see that many people trying to fix their leather shoes
Here in Indonesia, shoe fixer are still exist and I've been seeing them on many occasions. I suppose they may not be as popular as they were back then but in my case, I often seeing one wandering around as they carry their sewing tools while shouting "shoe sole!" on the way, hoping for anyone to use their service. Sometimes I feels bad for them because they're poor and people paid them cheap.
The translation pen you introduced is very good, What you said at the last few minutes of the film is very reasonable and i feel that your Feeling is true.
As a Malaysian Chinese, we have a lot of commons like Chinese people in China, we love peace, we love wealthy, and we love to share our culture. Not that I don't understand why the western countries hate on us, is that I totally understand WE can survive without their idealism. So just stop it and work hard for your people in the western, stop attacking Asians.
I truly enjoyed this video of the rural part of China. It’s beautiful! I am a nature lover. I can see myself living here for the rest of my life . Thanks for sharing. I hope that you will continue to learn the Chinese language and enjoy the rest of your life in China. 👍💪💪😊❤️Please continue to show us more videos of the different parts of the rural China. You are still young and your life in China should be bright and successful. Take care
Amazing view! Imagine at the pathway, those paddy fields became golden (ripen) and the blowing wind cause ripples or waves on the field. During late afternoon or sunset time it the view would be insane. Thanks for sharing.
Oil, Very well said! Life is changing, people is changing, nature is changing too……nothing is fixed, people should keep their mind open and growing……you have been growing so much since first time watching your video…….Society is a real university, you learn more priceless and valuable lessons from your own life experience! If your high school classmates still picture you in the old way, it means they are really stuck in the past and you are moving fast forward…….just like when I compare UK with China…..
To really see beauty in anything, slow down. Better still, stop to look and listen. As one slows down, even a simple wild flower by the roadside is more beautiful. It's true even in the city. We miss a lot by rushing through.
I am never tired of beautiful scenery of HuilIn & Yangshuo mountain and river, it is so peaceful and meantime full of life, vividly. Thanks for sharing such beautiful experience. And wish I can see more you going deeper,, I am curious what the end would look like of this magnificent huge scale of nature painting.
I like this video. It truly gives me much food for thought. I grew up in the city of Guilin. I’ve been Yangshuo several times when I was little. My father took me there to learn English. I left my hometown since I went to college which is far way from Guilin. And I’m working at the first-tier city in China. It’s really like what you said: Always keeping up with something surrounding you. Living my life with materialistic and spiritual pressure in the metropolis. And I’ve got used to it for ages since I came to the big city. But actually down deep, I’d rather living my life much simpler.
Oli, you speak the truth, it is a sight that money can not buy, no way! It"s really picture prefect and worth the distance you have to cover to reach the exotica , the climax is really soul pleasing, the clear water river is so inviting especially the weather is so complimentary. Lucky man, all the way from England.
Your are lucky to be able to visit the best scenery in China... I was there forty years ago during a group trip.Apparently the natural beauty still the same..
Nice view, even though I feel that's ordinary view since I raised up at all most the same view. You can see there are many rice farm land in green there, so I recommend Oli could visit there again in Autumn like the late of the October maybe, I bet you would love it and will see those green rice farm land ALL turn in yellow and you could even smell the special nice smell of rice. Damn I miss that time when I was in my hometown Guangxi
This place kind of fantasy picturesque like that "Lord of the Rings" trilogy but unique and onto its own. Its cool. Maybe a simple life is better in some ways than in the big cities.
Godamnit, your Putonghua pronunciation is spot on !!! You’re living the life, man! Feeling like 16 again sounds about right: so much to look forward to; all curiosity, wonder and venturing forth. Wished more foreign friends would come to see China for themselves like you and not shortchange their dreams by listening to biased MSM.
Thanks a lot. I put a lot of focus on pronunciation when I began learning. I hope so too! Maybe our videos are encouraging some people to come over and check it out for themselves
@@BarrettYT You are certainly doing that. I think one day we will all look back and see how your videos (and those of your fellow YTers in China’s) are at the vanguard of this unique movement of “foreigners” (personally I view you guys as Chinese) pioneering an insider’s’ view of China on the ground to a western audience. This space is a vacuum as the MSMs have wilfully relinquished that job. Keep up the good work.
Liked what you said about living in a big city vs. smaller place, it's very true: it feels like we are constantly running and chasing, keep all the plates spinning...your thoughts are inspiring, coupled with this breathtaking view, it's even better experience for us. Would love to take a break and to be in the middle of this georgeous view myself, thank you for bringing us along :)
I am really envious of your 'simple ' life you are living in 阳朔! Your videos have definitely made a difference to westerners who have no knowledge about China other than listening or reading from western MSM. There will definitely be an huge increase in tourism in China once the pandemic is over. Well done Lee and Oli 👍👍💪💪🙏🙏🇨🇳🇨🇳
it's amazing you can find this place...I went to Guilin and Yangshuo years ago but only places "designed for tourists", it feels strange but amazing that foreigners know more china than ourselves. love your channel
Hi, Oli, the place is so picturesque and scenic, thank you for showing us the authentic version of China, I can't wait to visit China......hope the pandemic will be over soon....Cheers good luck and good health. By the way, your spoken Chinese is improving every day, you speak like a local !
It's OK if you don't know the local dialect, most of us don't know dialects from other provinces either. At least that's what I've been telling myself, when trying to understand english I just never have any clue what some Irish people are saying.😂
I roinnt cásanna, ní dhéanann siad ceachtar. 英文翻译: In some cases, neither do they. After I get a firm grasp of HSK3, I'm going to work some more on my Irish Gaelic.
Hi Barrett, thanks for for video sharing, I absolutely agree with you, You are telling the true, majority western media is like that! I travelled Europe 4 time almost add together almost a 12 month, and I travelled to china lattest is on 2018 at shenzen and before this is 2012 shenzen also, and also visit before shanghai, xi an etc, I can see my self how beautiful of china, modern, clean,a lot of event their, polite, majority people their alway smile, prove to see clearly people happy living their, very good infrastructure provide etc etc Add oil for your sharing Support you
OMG! This was the place I passed by when taking the train from Guilin to Nanning. Loved the karsty landscape so much but due to the short trip I wasn't able to visit. So happy to discover you're featuring it. Have always loved your videos showing village life. It's a paradise😱. Thank you. Look FWD to more village videos 🙏🏿🙏🏿🙏🏿
