What an incredible guy... so warmhearted and welcoming even though we were complete strangers. Chinese people are some of the most hospitable people we've ever encountered. What's a random act of kindness that you've encountered?
Father and son. I love this video I love watching your father's having full admiration for this old man's simple life. Don't you wish you could have this back in UK??? Chinese people by nature are very friendly,non-aggressive. Sadly this is slowly changing for the younger generations because of these anti-china rhetoric from the Five eyes. Nevermind, this reminds me of those days when I was living in HK (NT). My grandfather was the most friendliest person on earth, always smiling, smoking one of his rolled up cigarettes, even offered his tobaccos to the British soldiers, when they were doing military military exercise upon the hills. Good old days. But will not return. Apologies, my uncle should offer both of you Green tea with some organic honey.
I went back to rural China back in 2007 to explore my roots. A tiny village community. What people dont know is that the Gov actually expanded electricity and running water access to these very remote areas. They also created aqua farming facilities for them. They didnt have to BUT THEY DID. Not a lot of people know this. This is why the people of China trust their government.
This time you are very lucky. I believe that 84-year-old old man will always remember this experience. I hope that more Westerners can understand the real China after seeing this video, instead of listening to the fake news from BBC and CNN.Thank you Barrett👍
This is China. A country with people willing to share things with others. It is not the materialistic comfort but the friendship warmth of a 5000 years culture.
Oh yes, what ever he experienced growing up ,sure he had a better life then if he was young to day,my grand mother is 94 and would let anyone in to house and offer them tea and something to eat 👍
Like the honeybees in the video. Many Westerners have been brought up afraid of them, but as long as you leave them alone, they'll leave you alone. You'll also welcome to partake in the honey they provide. Chinese people are like the honeybees.
Agree with you said. It's very true but one of the country never thinking this way. That's why rather asking beside other nations to follow to attack China. Almost everyone knew about it.
老人家虽然在农村,但是非常干净整洁勤劳,这就是我的同胞啊😭😭 This old gentleman is living although in the village and doesn’t have that much money, he keeps his house decent, kind ,and hard working. This is my lovely people.
Amazing old man. 84 yrs old and not a care in the world. He simply go about his business and smoke like a champ. Where on earth would you find someone like him that simply invite total strangers into his home. He doesn't have anything fancy and his is proud of life. Simple and yet uncomplicated. Awesome. 👍✌
Many Chinese hold optimistic attitudes and look forward to a bright future ahead. However, many Westerners are increasingly pessimistic and tend to have a gloomy outlook of the future.
Growing up in Australia, I had lots of interactions with the Chinese, and went to school with many. They are a very respectful people and are very hospitable.
the man is 84 years old and lives by himself, and regularly takes cigarettes. I bet he drinks occasionally. and he can still make his own living. Amazing.
We are a communist society. The government will help retired elderly people. Some of the elderly people's pensions are even higher than the wages of young people. Medical insurance is relatively perfect. Hospitals are all government hospitals, so few people will spend a lot of money.
i have always found that in the big cities the Chinese are friendly but leave you alone as they see a lot of foreigners but in the smaller towns where they do not see many foreigners they always want to talk to you and find out why you are there and where you come from. as with all of the Chinese people everyone is so friendly
Wow beautiful video. Thank you Barrett for this wonderful video ❤️. I really appreciate it. China is the future. World need and cooperate China with good intentions ❤️. Good to see China quickly recover from coronavirus. Thank you China for helping India during covid period. I really appreciate it. I will never forget that. China India friendship forever ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️🙏...
Chinese are always friendly and be nice to others, but some people just don't believe this. This 84 老伯伯 is very smart. He could understand your gestures! Thank you Barrett father & son.
Many Chinese warmly welcome Westerners to our lands as visitors (just ask the expats). However, many Westerners are increasingly regarding Chinese in their lands with suspicion.
Since I was 18 years old, I seldom went back to my hometown, which is the most common rural area in China. This place is not far from my hometown. With the same houses, walls, trees, dialects and old people of the same age as my grandfather, miss my hometown very much.😭
The Barretts & the Elder have open minds in extending friendship to each other. Breaks down the barrier, despite comms limitation, both sides accept & respect the way they are. Isn't it so beautiful that we can make friends like this ? Genuine human bonding. Thanks to Barretts, this experience will leave good memory to the Elder too.
Me and my friends got invited to random home in SiChuan rural areas, several times, and different minorities. They give us food, talk with us, try to give us gifts when we leave. Absolutely amazing people.
I love how the 85-yo man understood what Lee was saying about beekeepers putting on protective clothing through his gestures, despite not knowing English.
I am in France for 17years. When I was in China, I worked in a travel agence, I showed the tourists to my town, to my mother's home, my mother was a teacher, she cooked the nice food for the foreigners. The Chinese people are very kind.
James, they both got inflicted by the Chinese way of life. Respect his or her parent, very healthy Chinese culture n worth mentioning to the general public, respect your father, actual my it is universal LoL.
This is a true "civilization", not living in a mansion, owing expensive cars. being wealthy and always having to be in a "battle field", fighting, stabbing at one's back in achieving what you desire without any forms of humanity and in the end not knowing its meaning and purpose of living.
As a girl from Shanxi province, it's amazing to see the fruit of poverty alleviation in Shuozhou, know some special points of bee keeping, and learn the different dialect which bears totally different tone-pattern from my hometown. I am so appreciated that all of them are unfolded before my eyes through foreigners :)Thanks a lot for showing the diversity of China to the world! Thanks a lot for your unswerving stance!
Note: in remote & rural areas of the world you need to bring especially the elderly little utilitarian gifts that they can remember you with...I would come back years later and the pleasant memories they hold are as fresh as yesterday.
Older days, if you were on a trip by foot, walking long distance for days, when you are tired, you can just knock on villagers' door and ask for food and water, villagers are all happy to help you, even possibly offer you a place to sleep if it is night time.
This old man is the stereotype of a Chinese old generation country people. Shy, naive, not good with words, but very friendly and hospitable, at peace with the whole World.
I'm from Shanxi (btw Shouyang is in Shanxi, which is 山西 in Chinese, and 陕西, another province, is Shaanxi), and one of my father's best friend is from Shouyang. The dried bean curd (豆腐干) here is very famous in Shanxi, it's worth a try!
These are the famous cave houses of Shanxi, 30 million people still live like that -a resilient design, warm in winter, cool in summer, earthquake proof. Lovely video x
30 million people living that ? you liar ! why ? coz i am one of 30 million people there . or you just woke up for 50 yrs sleep , anyway how many years you slept last time , 60 years ? now you out off your tomb ?
Thank you Barret! This is very precious. Now many foreigners are willing to go deep into the countryside of China to tell the true stories, to tell the truth about ordinary Chinese people. This is very precious especially during such time that many foreign governments and their people are hostile towards China. I am so happy that you enjoyed making this video and were welcomed! You deserve very warm hospitality!
The old boy must have skin of a rhino ,bee keepers ware protective clothing and use smoke to keep the bees inactive before they open the hive, you could call him eccentric the way he lives, good for him and wish him more years of happy life 👍
Chinese people are like the honeybees in the video. Many Westerners have been brought up afraid of bees, but as long as you leave them alone, they'll leave you alone and go about their business producing honey. You can even enjoy the honey they provide. It's the same analogy to describe how many in the West view China and our people.
This is our proud culture, that goes back 5000 years ago, our ancestors had been friendly and generous and the culture has been passed on to our generation today. As an overseas Chinese, my eyes wet when the old bloke said we are all family, whereas it is very hard to justify at the same time, the radio on the desk is talking trash about China day in and day out. ps I m in Australia
Dear Barrets, I am a Hong Kong Chinese. I learn so much about my home country watching your videos. Funny and informative. Open my eyes Thank you so much!!
Excellent. Great video. ..from the shanxi.honey marking men.....Bee keeper ..😱😱👍👍👏👏84 years-old. Healthy men. ...very very good Chinese people. ......thank you. ...
That is authentic rural life in China......As Oli said materially he has everything he needs, he is having a "rich" life. Frankly speaking, people are friendly in rural China, they usually welcome visitors except they might have communication problems. Cheers....
It's just so heart warming to see people from different backgrounds come together and make friends with one another, put aside all political differences and embracing one another as one human family. That's really priceless.
what's more amazing is Lee and Oli came to China to really understand and appreciate all these little warm rural Chinese people's lifes, as a foreign mix chinese I yearn to go make friends with these lovely villagers!
Ultimately, what's important is your are at peace with yourself and the world around you. Money doesn't corrupt, it just brings out the corruption in you. Rich spiritually is truly rich.
If my father is still alive, will be the same age as like him, he was also happy and easy going person, very kind. Will treat you guys best stuff from kitchen, that's the tradition from North East China too😊
What a great experience you all shared together, no language or cultural barrier in the eyes of kindness. That’s what we need, something positive and give us faith in humanity.
