Tenuous claim to fame: The drummer, Dave-Steady-Stead, was my Dad's apprentice electrician before they broke. Around 88/89, he'd come to my house every morning looking very bleary-eyed. I have no idea why? 😉
Fabulous band. Sugary pop structures masking brutally honest, insightful, and caring lyrics. Saw em at the original (downstairs) 9:30 club in DC (room for 100+-, not counting the rats). The local Brits couldn't believe they'd play a small club. What a night 👍🏻😁
Did you see them at the 9:30 Club in 2000? I saw them there with Jacqui, then again a week later in Toronto after Jacqui quit the tour. Was really cool seeing how Paul and Dave tried to cover her glaring absence.
The greatest final verse in music.. "Old red he died... And every single landlord in the district cried.. An empty bottle of whiskey laying by his side... A lazy little tear running from each eye.." Gloriously sad....
Thanks so much for sharing this. I've been a fan of TBS since "Welcome to" and was a big fan of Dennis Miller when this was aired. This was from their 1992 tour in support of 0898, IMO their best album, and the only time they played in my home town. I still follow Paul and Jacqui but my heart definitely remains with this 11-member group.
Great to see this, Paul starting with his hood up, & Brianna's moves, Rotheray, Steady and the rest. Reminds me of a Beautiful South Video I once had which featured a US tour, which some git nicked from a house party.
Darthwillie 😅 I'm the opposite though. Whenever I see Briana moving like that I think she looks cool as fuck. In fairness though, in my younger day's, when I did dance, it looked like I had my shoes on the wrong feet. 😟
