From July 20th, 2024. Finally after I guess a year or so my hopes and dreams came true at last I got to see the beautiful and somewhat rather colorful UP1996 the Southern Pacific SD70ACE héritage unit at Kirkwood Amtrak station just before 4:00 pm on this lovely Saturday afternoon about 10 minutes after Amtrak 319 westbound had departed here for Kansas City from Chicago. It’s not my number one favorite Union Pacific SD70ACE héritage unit as I really love UP1988 the Katy SD70ACE heritage unit the most. Thanks goes out to everyone including my mutual friends out there who kept their eyes and updates out on UP1996 especially on Facebook via Railfan group pages. Several of my mutual friends even came here to see it like Noland Tipton, Bryan D Meyer, and Cole Mezyk just to name a few. Here she is in all her glory passing by Kirkwood Amtrak station on track 2 on the Union Pacific Jefferson City sub heading towards downtown Saint Louis from Kansas City and Jeff city. UP1996 is leading eastbound Union Pacific intermodal train ITUG4 today from Tucson Arizona to global 4 up north in Illinois near Joliet. His 2nd or trailing unit up front behind UP1996!is a Union Pacific SD70AH #8831, then as a single mid train helper engine he had a Union Pacific AC4400CW #6313. This eastbound train is made up of lots of loaded double & single stack well cars up front bound for global 4 then several auto carriers are on the end not far behind the mid train helper that are going to the A&S’s gateway yard east Saint Louis from Chouteau yard near downtown Saint Louis west of grand Avenue once this train drops them off there upon arrival.
