Enjoy a behind the scenes tour of the collaboration journey between mosaicist Zubenathi Filana and artist NomThunzi Mashalaba.
The process of creating this mosaic is an example of how apprentices train to collaborate with fine artists, working to translate the brushstrokes of artist NomThunzi Mashalaba’s painting into the medium of hand-cut stone mosaic, as well as interpreting the subtleties of an artist’s particular style and concepts.
Filana has completed his three year employment-based training through the Spier Arts Academy.
The mosaic featured here was showcased at the Nando's Feast Your Eyes Pop-Up Exhibition in Soho, London.
