After 106 years, six bells are ringing again from the towers of Bremen Cathedral. An extensive renovation and expansion of the cathedral peal in 2022 and 2023 brought it back to its original condition of 1896. The impressive result can now be viewed here in sound and image.

After the author noticed serious (mainly casting) defects in the Brema from 1962 in 2017, it was immediately removed from regular ringing. After a long period of planning, the St. Peter's cathedral parish decided in 2022 to carry out a comprehensive renovation and reconstruction of the cathedral peal to the state of 1896. The Grassmayr bell foundry in Innsbruck, Austria, was responsible for the bell casting and the new clappers, for the assembly and the rest technical equipment Glockenläute- und Turmuhrensysteme Gravermann from Gescher. The entire revision of the cathedral peal has a model character, because the new bells were cast in a profile that matched the rest of the bells, hot-dip galvanized steel yokes were installed again for the two small bells and the ringing angle was set well above the usual german standard. As a result, the peal has remarkable dynamics that run seamlessly from the crown of the sound to the foundation. Now the Bremen Cathedral once again has a peal that "is worthy of a cathedral"!
