The Belt Sander. Unsung hero of our workshop.
A demonstration and explanation of why the Belt Sander is an essential machine for the work we do here at our family workshop.
Often overlooked and not receiving the focus that hand carving and the scroll saw gets in our videos, the Belt Sander is no less important and is a key component to the process of making gift items in wood at our workshop.
For more information about our family workshop check out our website www.thelovespo...
For regular updates about the things we are doing find us on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram by searching for The Lovespoon Workshop.
Remember to take care and ALWAYS ensure your own safety when working with wood working tools and machinery. If in doubt don't do it!!

I now have a 1 inch by 30 inch vertical belt sander with a 5 inch disc sander on the side. It helps me to sand and shape small parts. I use it a lot. Enjoyed! Take care!

The belt sander is absolutely vital and you don’t realize just how important it is until yours breaks down.

Absolutely, we were debating whether to get a third one today to save us having to change belts. Hope all is well with you all. Looking forward to seeing your next upload. All the best from us all. 👍👍

My unsung hero is a spinning mdf wheel with polishing compound…sharpening anything to crazy sharp extremely fast, no going through grits, from file to finished. For carving tools just a second to bring back the sharp.

Sharpening is always an essential part of any workshop working smoothly. It's certainly important for us too. Thanks for supporting our RU-vid channel. All the very best from us all. 👍👍

I do have a Belt/Disc sander similar to yours, it's actually on a wheeled cart, so when I use it I roll it outside (big garage door) as it produces so much dust even with my vacuum attached to it. I do not use it as frequently as you dot, as I prefer to use my small pneumatic barrel sanders on my drill press (pillar drill), as well as the larger flex drum sander on my bench grinder for my shaping and edge profiling. I also use a "mop" sander attachment on my drill press, but will move it to the other side of my bench grinder. This is what gives me the ultra smooth surface before putting sealer on.

Hi, great to hear from you. It certainly produces it's fair share of dust. We have to regularly empty the extractor. It saves us a fair amount of time when it comes to the hand sanding. Sounds like you have some pretty useful pieces of kit when it comes to the sanding and shaping. Thanks for sharing your own set up. All the very best from us all. 👍👍

Just remember to just sand the wood and not your fingers.
