Ensure your own safety when undertaking any wood working projects. If in doubt, seek the assistance of trained craftspeople, tradespeople or expert BEFORE doing any projects.
Search online for companies like Niqua, Pegas and Flying Dutchman. I work with a reverse tooth number 9 blade. The best for me are the Niqua Pebecco number 9 reverse tooth blade or the Niqua Speed number 9 reverse tooth blade. Pegas do their own version too.
I’ve started doing scroll sawing the machine I have just bought is Axminster obviously there’s no point in me spending a lot of money just for a hobby the problem I find with it is it’s difficult to remove the wood from the blade your machine is obviously pivoted so you can lift it up to remove the work in hand
On the Hegner you just released the blade and pick the piece up that you are working on. Simple and it does the job. It helps if you are using pinless blades too.
@@DailovespoonsThomas yes I think I’m a bit worried of breaking the blade by bending it but I see you do that anyway it’s just a matter of getting a bit more confident and practice
@davidgreenwood5241 if it's a good blade it will be fine. I use the Niqua Speed or Niqua Pebecco number 9 reverse tooth blade. It does a great job working in hard wood. Pegas do their own version too. Give yourself time. As you said its a matter of building up your confidence. Enjoy the process, it's a lovely machine to work with and you can use it to make so many different things. 👍
@@DailovespoonsThomas thank you for your reply I’ve only recently found your website I will be looking up more of it in the future I’m sure I can learn a great deal from it
Really nice design and great of job cutting it out and carving it, it's hard for me to cut out detailed pieces on thick wood with a number 9 blade. How do you add color to the shellac to change its color? You mentioned that on one of your finishing videos, Thank you
What would cause the blade to keep twisting even though the blade is tight and sharp? For example, I tried to cut into a piece of wood and I noticed the blade had trouble getting into it because it looks like it wants to twist.
Hi Regina, a few possible causes for that come to mind. Firstly, a blade that is not suitable for the job. I recommend a Niqua Speed or Niqua Pebecco number 9 reverse tooth blade for working in hard wood. In the USA it might be easier to get the reverse tooth number 9 blade by flying Dutchman. It's basically the same blade. The other possibility is the quality of the blade you are using. If tension is correct and the machine is set up correctly it is likely to be a blade that is of poor quality or just not suitable for the task in hand. The type and thickness of the wood are other possibilities. The speed you feed the wood through the scroll saw is another possibility. Bit of trial and error involved in getting that one right though.
My goodness...your channel is so inspirational. I have been in woodworking ever since my dad taught me how to hold a hammer properly since I was 4. I'm so getting the materials to try this wagon one.❤ I like your videos with the softer peaceful background music. Thanks for these videos.
Delighted to hear that you enjoyed the video. Hope you enjoy making the wagon, the design is available on our website for free www.thelovespoonworkshop.com/scroll-saw-projects Thanks for supporting our RU-vid channel, all the very best from us all. 👍
I love the soft music. And you do an amazing job. I am trying to get my courage up to do more advanced work woth my scroll saw so I want to try a 3D one. 😊
Love your channel! New to wood carving and i can only afford one, should i go with the scroll saw because it is more versatile? Also, is there a"best" brand of scroll saw?
Thanks for the support. I would start with a second hand Hegner scroll saw. You can often find them for good prices on Ebay. Customer support is good with them too, you can easily get hold of spare parts. Thanks again, all the very best from us all. 👍
Depends the type of wood and the individual piece of wood too. Have working in beautiful pieces of dark and light wood. Have one sculpture in teak that has great character in it. I have another sculpture in Oak that is also full of character.
Great video once again. Looks like most of the fingernail gouges you are using on most projects have only a 2 or 3 sweep or just a straight chisel. Is that correct. I love the inspiration from your videos.
Hi Joe, Hope all is well with you and always great to hear from you. The gouges we use are predominantly a number 3 or 4 sweep. That's on the UK listing system, so one number higher than the European system. So in Europe they would be numbers 2 and 3. Don't use any straight chisels just gouges with a very shallow sweep. I used to use straight chisel before I had the shallow sweep gouges. Thanks as always for your support, all the very best from us all. 👍
Hi Mark, hope all is well with you. It's the same here, always seem to be busy with something. Thanks as always for your support, all the best from us all. 👍
@@DailovespoonsThomas OK thank you. Is there a dust extractor that you would recommend? I don't have a garage and so I have to scroll all in my home in my office.
@koscherness most of our dust extractors are quite large so probably not suited to a home office space. We do have one smaller trend dust extractor that can be attached to the scroll saw itself and does a great job too. So my recommendation would be to check out the Trend dust extractors.
Lovespoons are often decorative so not meant for practical use but there are no rules or regulations when it comes to the tradition. You will see many examples of lovespoons that are cooking utensils too.
Thanks Frank the support is always very much appreciated. All going well we will be live on Friday again. Thanks again for supporting our RU-vid channel. All the very best from us all. 👍
Lovely video ...I'm wanting to buy a scroll saw what would you recommend it must have on it example pedal or do all scroll saws take the same blades or do some not take just don't want to go and spend without not understanding thank you
I would definitely go for a scroll saw that takes pinless bladed. My scroll saw of choice is the Hegner Multicut 2s and my blade of choice is a number 9 reverse tooth blade, either a Niqua Speed, Niqua Pebecco, Pegas or flying Dutchman.
These videos are helpful as right now I have to use these in 7th grade middle school (which is kind of crazy to me) and I have trouble and sometimes get nervous because of the jump lol
Hi James, great to hear from you. My scroll saw of choice is the Hegner Multicut 2s and my blade of choice is the Niqua Speed number 9 reverse tooth blade or the Niqua Pebecco number 9 reverse tooth blade. Thanks again for getting in touch and supporting our RU-vid channel. All the very best from us all. 👍
