I bought myself a pretty beefy bench drill earlier this year but eventually decided to send it back. I wasn’t sure if I should make a video about it, but I think it’ll provides some context for the next video which will be a restoration of a second hand one. I wanted something that was a little more robust compared to the small bench drill we’ve been using in the workshop for quite some years. And as I described in the video, I’m going to drill many of the holes on a new series of aluminium CNC plates I am making. But a combination of vibration in the handle, and the noise emanating from the pulley cover, as well as the poorly designed location of the depth stop convinced me to send it back. Luckily I wasn’t lumbered with this. I eventually bough two drills (a similar D16 model and an smaller and older version of the Axminster micro drill) off eBay for less than half the price of this and those will be the focus in the next video.
