Jay is a straight up player. Always in the melody and syncs it with tight rhythm, which is how demos should be. So many demos on the tube are detached from this. Bravo, mines on the way.

I bet a lot of the difference in sound between the Twin and the Chimera would have a lot to do with the speakers. The Twin powering the Chimera cab probably would have been a truer comparison. Either way I’m still buying a Preamp! Thanks for the awesome videos, Jay.

It actually started off as a tour replacement for my original 1968 Bigbsy Tele. Now it's turned into my main guitar with the '68 coming out on special occasions. It is a Custom Shop. A few mods are a mastery bridge, locking tuners, TUSQ nut and string tree, and Virgil Arlo Pickups.

Great Review Jay. Liked the comparison between the Fender and the Chimera at the end. I got my preamp a week ago and have been playing with different amps including my Monarch, My Hiwatt and my old Gibson Explorer, Duo Medalist and the Epiphone Pathfinder. Going into the Monarch it seems to brighten the tone even when I roll the treble down as much as i can without totally compromising the sound; and turning the bass up. It has the same effect as the Vinny portion of my Dizzybird, on the Monarch it seems to push the high-mids and top more. This is less desirable on the American setting, playing with my PRS CE with the 85/15 pickups or my Straocaster or Tele. When I dug out my SG Standard and switched it to British Mode it really did nice supporting the sound. The pickups are a little darker sounding so I think that was to be expected. I like the pedal more on the Gibson Duo Medalist and the Hiwatt DR103. it seems like the 6L6 and El 34 power tubes took to it better. the pathfinder which has 6v6 it sounded good but this amplifier is so naturally bright that I had to take out the treble to get the desired sound. I did really like it going through the Gibson explorer Amp 6V6 power tubes with a ten inch speaker. It has the most neutral sound of all my 6V6 amps. it did really well with this amp. It works good with my Monarch, but it tends to color the sound a little, which I love the Monarch sound so much that when I got it dialed in it was basically the duplicating the Monarch tone only louder. It's a great sounding pedal all round I think. I think with the Monarch I like using my Klon Clone, the Archer Ikon with gain out just using the it as a clean boost or using the compressor pedal (Mad Professor Little Green Compressor) I still haven't finished playing with it though. Adding the SG to the mix convinced me it really takes time dialing the sound especially with the Monarch to get what you want. I am adding a new setting called Maggotous Brainium Fuzz. I got it sounding sweet covering leads from the Parliament classic. Seemed like the more I kicked in the gain the brighter sounds came out than when i had it down and used the volume to boost things. I highly recommend it the pedal to anyone looking for a great pre-amp / OD pedal.

Kids, if you want to play more like Mr. J you need to work on string muting. This means practicing WITH distortion and understanding how to use both hands to mute strings that are not in use. It’s harder than it sounds but it will clean up & tighten your sound
@pcorriveau1982
@pcorriveau1982 6 лет назад
Great tone but since I am a plexi/strat type of player, I prefer the JHS Charlie Brown V4 (JTM-45 like) pedal. It gives me some Hendrix tones. It also works very well with my mini Tube Screamer boosting in the front to get some Jimmy Page tones and even 80's tone. The JTM-45 is my favorite amp of all time but it is simply too loud for home practice and studio use so the Charlie Brown pedal keeps me satisfied. :)

Not quite the *first preamp I'm looking for but a pleasant surprise...it's officially on the 'eush list" so to speak. Glad I stopped by ..great demo btw very helpful content wise, as someone else said, a demo with some rhythm parts not just noodling is very helpful for discerning what would fit my music (you've got, the word coming to my mind for some reason is "flair", a ton of flair, it really gives those rhythm parts a certain something. I'm hearing something that can grab even the jaded ear of a rocker-turned-borderline-jazz-snob).

Jay, I appreciate that you've demoed almost all of Benson's line but I was hoping you would demo the Vinny. I haven't really liked any other demos I've heard of the Vinny. Since every Benson demo I've heard from you has showcased the amp's tones beautifully I was hoping you would demo the Vinny as an amp pushing a 112 instead of using it's standard 110 cab. Beyond that perhaps putting the Vinny through all it's capabilities would be welcome! Love your videos and am hoping to see your Vinny video soon, cheers!!

To answer your question at the end of the video. I have an Electronic Audio Experiments Model feT preamp. It has become the bedrock of my tone. It's such a good tone tool, but I'm after a power stage to pair with it, other than my Boss Katana 100, which is great, but I want something closer to the core tone of the Model feT without the coloration of another preamp.
